Seasonal Shrimp Ceviche
Daniel M.

On the way to the comedy club and chose Mambo to eat. So glad we did. It's a small place that does tons of take out from what we saw. The service was excellent as everyone helps not just one server. We had many questions for them and they answered them all in a friendly way. The food it unique and amazing. 3 different empanadas and the lomo steak montaditos for apps and shrimp ceviche for main. The empanadas were all delicious and fresh. The lomo steak was unreal. Cooked perfectly and amazing flavor. Could not get enough. The shrimp was plump and delicious. Overall an excellent meal. Can't wait to get back. Enjoy

This is what at first glance appears to just be a small empanada shop however has a quaint dining room in the back for you to enjoy an entire menu of food. We had 3 different empanadas (Mexican street corn, pollo guisado and shrimp ajillo) which all were absolutely delicious and a few different mofongos which all were absolutely AMAZING! The garlic sauce is soooo addicting and I wished they'd sold it because I would've purchased a vat and put it on everything at home lol. Service was also good despite having 2 large parties to tend to. We will be back.

Been dying to check out this spot for ages. World class service! Excellent food, with massive portions. The ambiance of the place was ideal. The owner, Martin, took extra care to ensure the experience was magnificent. Must visit!!!

I stumbled upon this place in 2024 and was immediately hooked. I absolutely love mofongo and Mambo's is the best I've ever had, hands down! Unlike most mofongo, it's not dry & even reheats well. The chicharron chunks that are incorporated into it add the perfect crunch. The sauce it's served with is delectable. It all comes together for the most fantastic monfongo you'll ever have! I live 45 minutes from it & will drive the distance.

It's a small restaurant but very cozy and nice inside (definitely did not expect it based on the outside appearance). Servers were attentive but let's talk about the food-- ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. We only ordered apps and the portion sizes did not disappoint. Ceviche was delicious as well. Everything was absolutely delicious and I think this is my favorite Peruvian/Cuban/Latin American restaurant in North NJ. Definitely a must try. Very hard to pick a favorite dish but their empanadas stole my heart. I cannot wait to come back again!!

Ordered takeout, but prices are very high on GrubHub. Food was excellent though! Ceviche was fresh with a punch of lime, pickled onions and very tasty yucca chips. Would have preferred corn nuts vs the fresh corn, but it all still worked together. Wings were a refreshing twist on the usual and were great with the garlic dipping sauce. Chicken sandwich with the yucca fries was very flavorful. I've had their Sancocho before, and it's one of my favorites! BYOB too which is always a plus! Just a star short bc it's very expensive here.

Very happy we ate at Mambo for brunch today!!! Great location, felt like I was in Cuba. The food was superb, good enough that I ordered 1/2 dozen empanadas to go for a snack later. Yet another great local spot for brunch, definitely coming back again. Only complaint I would have is I thought the viva Columbia dish I ordered was a bit on the stingy side with only 2 pieces of pork belly and street parking only.

1/2 Chicken and 2 Sides Combo - so good! Look at all the sauces.

Ambiance and service is great, but I was not impressed with the food. White rice was bland, beans were runny and chicken was just ok.

I honestly need way more than just five stars …read more.. Made a reservation for 5pm . Showed up at 4:25 , waited about 5 minutes and they accommodated us right the way . ( place was packed and busy ) . Service is definitely a 10 out of 10 from the minute with walk in the door . Beautiful decor , friendly and welcoming hostess . We were seated and right the way a gentleman named Mathias came to serve us , what an amazing personality , friendly , knowledgeable of the menu , efficient.. I can just keep on going . We were also helped by a lady named Jenny whom I found out later is the manager of the place . She even got me a special hook/stand to hang my pocketbook instead of leaving on the floor . The food was ordered and served within 30 minutes , to cooked to perfection. We had the Chuleta / pina . Pork chops with pineapple and caramelized onions , pollo rumbero - chicken with prosciutto and cheese in a white sauce , and boiled yucca . Food was spectacular, complements to the chef , table was always clean and service was beyond outstanding from beginning to end . Team work , great atmosphere, great food . Can't ask for anything better !!! Oh, and the was a drink called el guayabero , made from guava poured and rum that is to die for ... If you're in the area I would definitely recommend this amazing experience . Thank you Mathias , Jenny and the rumba Cubana staff for making it a great night ..

Disgraceful! I was…read moresick on Mother's Day 2026 so we decided to call Rumba Cubana in Clifton and placed an order for a pick up. We went home, ate and saved the left overs. The next day we heated up the left overs for lunch. As I was eating, I saw something strange on my plate. I wasn't sure what is was. I placed it on a napkin and my husband dissected it with 2 toothpicks. I couldn't believe there was a strand of a thick steel scrubbing pad in my beans. We took pictures of it and then tossed the food in the trash. We immediately called Rumba and spoke with Jenny, the manager. She apologized, texted me, and requested pictures of the food. I sent her the pictures via text and to my disbelief, I never heard from her again. It has been 11 days and she completely disregarded me and my family. What a disgrace! She did not even have the decency to offer a refund or anything. My husband and I have been loyal patrons of Rumba since 2019. We have celebrated numerous birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries in their establishments. We definitely do not feel like valued customers after this experience. Thank God that my six year old daughter, my husband, nor I did not ingest this piece of steel scrubbing pad. Having done so could have lead to serious/fatal consequences. The fact that Jenny did not take this issue seriously is disheartening. Finding a steel strand in your food is a major health hazard not to be ignored. It's a shame! We feel extremely disappointed and will not be returning. I certainly do NOT recommend Rumba in Clifton.

My husband ordered a chicken empanada and it was filled with chicken and rice and not fully fried. When I asked the server to fry it some more, she brought a new one out that was a bit more fried but just as pale as the first one. The inside was not tasty at all and it was definitely not colombian. Then there was the stale Colombian beef empanadas. These were probably the worst of all. We also ordered a bread that we asked if it was filled with cheese, the server said yes....and it had ham and cheese, so my son did not eat it. This could've just been a miscommunication, but most places tend to clarify when it is not just cheese, but also includes something else with it. The menu is very small, so I decided to order a burger which was made with pulled beef and was actually delicious. They also have Colombian style scrambled eggs and coffee which my husband liked. If it's just based on food I would say it was 50/50 your chances of getting something tasty, but because the service was not attentive or friendly (we were the only people in the cafe for awhile), it is not a place I would return to. Maybe it was just an off day?

The footlong Philly cheese steak was very good and you can share that with two people because it's big! Unless you're super hungry! We started with a Bloody Mary and one of my favorites, Coconut Mojito. Rumba's Bartenders always create amazing libations and these two followed suit. The entrees were: Picadillo Jinetero (Cuban-style ground beef hash, served "a caballo" (on horseback) with two fried eggs and ripe plantains. It is a savory-sweet dish made with seasoned ground beef, sofrito, tomatoes, olives, capers, raisins, and Moro Rice). I enjoyed this dish, VERY MUCH. The ground beef was perfectly seasoned, I prefer the delectable dry Moro Rice, and those sweet plantains are divine. The other selection was the Tostones Montaditos (Fried green pressed plantains topped with Churrasco-Skirt Steak). Even though this is an appetizer, it is large enough to be a meal. Try it. I appreciated the attentive and cordial service from our Server, Eduardo. I placed a to-go order and not only was it securely packed, but Rumba also included another free appetizer coupon to the bag.

I've visited multiple locations over the past few years and I've never been disappointed! They don't miss! No matter which spot I go to, the quality of the food, the warm service, and the lively ambiance are consistently amazing. We visited the Rochelle Park location on a Saturday night. It's right on Rt17 with a large parking lot, but it was packed when we arrived. There was a line of cars backed into the highway waiting for valet service. It's complimentary, so tip as you please. I honestly don't like to valet my car...... especially when I could easily park it myself right there LOL. But we didn't have a choice. *shrug* As always, Rumba's vibrant atmosphere didn't disappoint. You can feel the energy as soon as you walk in! The upbeat Latin music will have you swaying, I promise ;) The interior beautifully captures the culture and history of Cuba with colorful artwork, tropical plants, rattan pendant lamps, and large murals of Havana. It has a touch of elegance without feeling too upscale, so this restaurant is perfect for casual dining and special occasions like celebrations or date nights. We didn't have reservations and had to wait around 15 minutes for a table for two. No biggie - we sipped at the bar until our table was ready! The menu offers traditional Cuban dishes like ropa vieja, vaca frita, and bistec de palomilla along with a variety of tapas, mofongos, sandwiches, and sides. I ordered: *Taino Cocktail [El Jimador Reposado Cristalino, Ancho Reyes Verde, Tamarindo Pure, Agave Syrup, Fresh Lime Juice] ($14.95) - Oooo this was a sweet & spicy mix with a strong tequila finish! It's like a spicy margarita with a tropical twist. *Caribbean Punch Cocktail [Tanduay White Rum, Tanduay Gold Rum, Plantation Overproof Rum, Lime Juice, Guava, Orange, Pineapple Juice, Grenadine] ($13.95) - This drink was screaming my name! It's fruity, refreshing, and makes you feel like you're on an island. I just wish it had a liiiiiiitle more rum for a stronger punch, and that the glass wasn't filled with so much ice. *Ropa Vieja [shredded beef stewed in a sauce made with tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, garlic, cumin, olives, and sherry wine] ($15.95) - Cuba's national dish! The tomato-based sauce was perfectly seasoned and the beef was sooo tender... melt-in-your-mouth type of tender! My tummy was happy, but I wish the portion size was bigger! I paired it with a side order of tostones (fried plantains) and arroz blanco (white rice) with frijoles negros (black beans). The fluffy rice soaked up the rich sauces of the black beans & ropa vieja, so every bite was savory heaven~ The tostones were sliced, deep fried, and smashed to perfection. Crispy tostones + garlic mojo sauce = a perfect pairing. I could eat these all day! The only thing that's really missing here is...Can you guess? A DANCE FLOOR. Once they make room for that, y'all know where to find me. I'll be at the bar for drinks first and then dancing later! Need to satisfy your Cuban cravings? Look no further. Put some rumba in your step and head over here!

The parking lot was packed so I expected there to be a wait but was pleasantly surprised when our party of 5 (plus a baby!) was seated right away. The place is lively and a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. There's a stage/dance floor in the middle so I can imagine it can turn kind of clubby later in the night. Interestingly, the menus are all tablets and while really cool at first, it got annoying when a couple of our menus started to glitch. High tech but also leaves more room for failure. The service was friendly though and decently quick. We ordered a few appetizers and they came out in a reasonable amount of time. We got a sampler, croquettas, and a tamal. Everything tasted great so I had high hopes for our entrees. I went with the Mother's Day Special Relleno (stuffed) Salmon. It was a little overcooked but still really tasty. I believe it was stuffed with some crab meat and cheese. I also really liked the sauce that covered it. My dad got oxtail and it was seasoned very well but the oxtail pieces were cooked inconsistently. Some were soft and came off the bone very easily while others were tough to the point I had to use my hands to gnaw the meat off the bone. Everyone else's dishes were pretty good too.
