Upon viewing the Hostel's location, you will notice the very interesting geological landscape formations around the Hostel. This area was once a volcanic rift zone, so you will find obsidian, magma lava rock, and other types of volcanic materials while hiking around this area.
Therefore, the surrounding area is a combination of desert and ocean landscape. The temperature ranges from the low 60's to 100 degrees-depending upon the season you visit the Hostel.
Bring your 3-liter water backpack, cooking stove/pan,H2O filter, snorkel, mask, and dive fins because this is scuba diving heaven here, especially scuba diving around Cabo De Gata. Plus, make sure you have thick soles on your sandals and tennis shoes because the lava rock will severely cut your feet hiking along the San Jose ocean shoreline:

Seriously, on a clear, sunny day, you can see Africa way off in the distance!
In order to get to this remote, eco-tour friendly destination, you will need to catch a bus in Almeria: If I remember correctly it was the 22 Bus that will take you to San Jose Spain. Oh-I think I caught the bus not too far from the Internet Cafe.
Incidentally, you can take a big, freight ship to Africa from Almeria Harbor. Just make sure you have your survival gear, sleeping bag/travel pillow, plenty of food, water, and take Dramamine four hours before traveling! Uh-and go to a restaurant away from the Harbor-use the bathroom at the restaurant because the bathroom at the Harbor is just a hole in the floor: It is gross and unsanitary!
Another issue before heading to Africa-get all your shots updated in Almeria, so you won't get sick or hassled by Immigration Authorities. There are hospitals in Almeria, but there isn't a big hospital in San Jose. So, if you need medical attention, I highly suggest you visit the hospital in Almeria BEFORE heading to San Jose, Spain.
Riding by bus: It's roughly a 22-25 mile bus ride, so make sure you have your week's supply of favorite foods you like to eat in your backpack because the small grocery store in San Jose will not carry a large selection of fresh foods such as meat or produce; the selection of canned foods is nominal, so I am giving you a major heads up to shop for your food in Almeria!
BTW: There is an excellent pizza restaurant in San Jose, so please order the seafood pizza-it's awesome.
While using the Internet at Heladeria in Almeria, please ask where you catch the bus to San Jose Spain and the bus number because the bus numbers might have changed since I visited the Hostel a few years ago.
Here's a picture of the Heladeria Internet Cafe in Almeria.

Since the Hostel is located in a remote area, there is NO Internet nor Wi-Fi, so you must use the Heladeria to check your E-mail and surf the Internet.
Upon arriving at the Hostel, you will be designated where you will sleep. As soon as you finish getting organized, you should go hiking around San Jose's coastal zone.
Before hiking, make sure you bring your portable camp stove/pan, headlamp/flashlight, Camelback 3 Liter H2O Backpack (bring an extra 3 Liter of H2O for safety), plenty of fruit/snacks, bathing suit, sandals, towel, 5 X 7 thick tarp, solar blanket, sunscreen, first aid kit, knife, snorkel, mask, and dive fins. Remember you are in a remote area, so you must pack your survival gear in your hiking backpack!
Walk towards San Jose Harbor. After approaching San Jose Harbor, walk towards the left side of the Harbor continuing along the coast for about 3/4ths to one mile. This is very rugged terrain, so please wear your hiking shoes!
There are three coves-the larger cove is the farthest one away from the other two coves. This is a great dive spot for spear fishing and snorkeling. Lay the tarp on the ground protecting your body from getting cut or slashed by sharp rocks after swimming in the ocean (wearing a bathing suit is optional, so use plenty of sunscreen due to the sun's rays are more harsh in this region).
I stayed here at this Hostel for one week-NO kitchen. I left this Hostel feeling tranquil and energized. San Jose, Spain Hostel is THE most beautiful place!
