The service was bad and waiter looked at his phone while taking out order. He also provided no menus or free bread. We ordered the Prosciutto E Rucolo and it came out cold and mostly bland. Was very rude to us when talking to us. We have asked for the check but have been waiting for 45 mins. He even came back to our area a few times. Awful service, bland food, decent ambiance was okay. If you see Mamas, keep walking!

The desserts are always very good, especially the gelato. I highly recommend Mama trattoria for a casual dinner with friends or family. (they are very good with kids)

We went there again during our visits last year and this year and it is still a very nice place in Hamburg Barmbek. This part of Hamburg has changed a lot - to the better and especially the service team is fun and very helpful. They have two places in Hamburg, one in Barmbek and one in Poppenbuettel and the one in Barmbek is a bit more cosy and authentic, but the one in Poppenbuettel has got nice outside seating during summer.

We had actually wanted to eat here earlier but actually came (and left) because it was so empty and…read morewe weren't really up for what was on the menu. A couple days ago we were up for Italian food and decided to finally give this place a try. It actually was quite full when we arrived for lunch. Surprisingly mixed group of people there, from stylish Eppendorf wanna-be hipsters through to a couple older folks. All in all pleasantly full so that you didn't feel you were stranded alone somewhere. We were very quickly given menus and asked our orders.....not in an overbearing way but pleasantly, meaning we weren't forced to wait at all. We had some pasta and a salad as well as small starters. Without any specific detail, everything tasted great. The salad was a solid portion and was really tasty....it was the gorgonzola and walnut one. The pasta was also well prepared and tasted as it should.....nothing along the lines of improper flavoring as one other reviewer wrote. Service was always polite and came back just enough to refill drink orders and so forth. We enjoyed the food, enjoyed sitting on the stools and watching the "show" walk by and found the prices to be very fair. The interior is also quite unassuming and comfortable. Very modern without being too generic. There is also a nice outdoor area which gets a lot of midday sun if it actually shows itself. We'll be back as this isn't far from our place and is a very solid option for straight-forward food at fair prices.

We sat down at a table on the pavement, and took ages deciding what to eat - why? Because everything looked so delicious! The people on the neighbouring table were enthusing about their prawns, and they did look and smell delicious. In the end, I chose to have some grilled squid which was cooked to perfection, while my friends had a Spaghetti al frutti di mare and a spaghetti e gorgonzola - which I have to say didn't look as appetising as mine did! Nevertheless, we all enjoyed our meals and the lively atmosphere inside and outside the restaurant contributed along with the good food. Prices were reasonable, ranging from EUR6 to EUR15 euros for a main course. Highly Recommended!

It could do really well but it fails on some key basics and unfortunately that spoils what they have done well. The restaurant is a great size the tables have room and the decoration is nice. The facilities are good and the serving staff are nice enough. I would also pass on the garlic bread attempt... It looks and tastes like garlic sauce from a kebab shop best left for he kebabs and the dry bread is an easy miss.
