They were fast and got our order correct. The braised beef noodles were good. Needs work- The pan fried buns were a little too well done for my liking. It doesn't have the fluffiness like doughzone but the portion is good. The meat was a little dense too. The shrimp wontons were ok. I prefer the one at DTF (which has that extra layer of sweetness and tanginess). Goodness, the beef noodle soup (hand pulled noodles) was one of the best I've had in a while. I love that the beef chunks didn't have too much fat on them like other places but were still very tender. The noodles were wonderful as was the broth. Also, we had the stir fried spicy eggplant which really surprised me. I'm not usually a fan of eggplant, but this came out nice and crispy, with the skin caramelized perfectly. Okay, I hardly write Yelp reviews, but I think this is warranted given the fact that my little family and I have come to this place for the past 7 plus years. This place, in my opinion, makes the best pork xiao long baos. I think it tastes better than Din Tai Fung and Dough Zone. It's juicy and always plump! They also have other tasty options such as their Spicy Pork Wontons (more sweet than spicy), House Special Fried Rice, Salt and Pepper Squid, and their Gyoza is also yummy as well. Everyone I've taken here has always said great things about this place, and it's never a disappointment. The staff here is great and has treated us like their own. It's been many years since I have eaten here and I remember my first experience being pretty good. Tonight's order consisted of dishes that were either undercooked or straight up burnt. - Cucumber salad: per my partner, "tastes like it looks." The salad was soggy and overly sweet. - Pan fried pork buns: we ordered two servings, one was way too burnt to even try. Note, you have to pay extra for pan fried buns (vs. steamed). Unacceptable to serve a dish like this! - Stir fried pancake slices: maybe because we got take out that this dish was soggy? Definitely missed the mark. Yum yum yum! Went here with my parents while I was visiting home. I've been to the 99 Ranch before but I don't remember if I have tried this place. We got xiao long bao, braised beef pancake roll, cucumber salad, and these beautiful green beans. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. My parents argued over if we could order more food just to try, even though we were pretty full. I really wanted to come here after reading the Seattle Times article saying how this was comparable to Din Tai Fung but short story is, it's not. The pork soup dumplings had a thick lump of skin on top from the way they were formed and felt like too much dough to meat/soup ratio. My co-worker also described the broth flavor as not tasting "clean". The hot oil noodles were even worse. These are hand pulled noodles but they were so thick and doughy. We asked if they could make them thinner and the answer is no. Skip. The lamb dumplings and beef pancake were good. The lamb was juicy and had good flavor. The pancake was crispy on the outside with a good filling. First off, I'm not an expert in the dumpling or pancake eating arena. I don't know that I know 100% how to eat them properly. We started off with seaweed salad and cucumber salad. Small and local restaurant that prides themselves in their made by hand dumplings and baos. You can taste the work that goes into their dishes and that they're all individually made by hand. The wrapping on the xiao long bao is a tad thicker than I would prefer but it's still very tasty. The sauce in the pork wonton spicy Sichuan sauce was missing a kick and flavor was kind of one note, but the wonton was nicely made with a good wrapper. I love Mama's Dough. The food is delicious and reasonably priced plus the waitstaff is really attentive. The restaurant is located between Kent and Renton at the Great Wall Mall. The parking lot can get crazy sometimes, but we always find a spot near the back of the building. Their specialty is the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings). They even have a little booth where you can see them making them by hand. You get 10 pieces per order and we chose the pork ones (the other option is crab). We got the dumplings quickly and they were wonderful. I have pretty good soup dumpling spoon technique, but I'm so happy that these were not served scalding hot. We also ordered the Chinese Sausage Fried Rice. It tasted good and was perfectly cooked. I usually don't like how restaurants make fried rice, but this dish was really flavorful. The wait for food is soooooo LONG! And the chef skipped our order by accident so we had to ask to inquire about the progress of our order. We ordered the pork and chives dumplings and crab meat xiao long bao. Both are mediocre compared to dumplings elsewhere. The dumplings had too much soy sauce in the fillings which overpower the natural taste of fillings. Crab meat xiao long bao doesn't have any real crab meat inside, at least not detectable by taste. I was a bit disappointed with that. The soup inside xiao long bao is good but I Wouldn't order the crab meat one for the higher price, just order regular xiao long bao since they don't really use crab meat anyways. I ordered take out on 21st, I think it's Chinese Winter solstice and everyone gather together and have dinner. I'm glad they are opened and I ordered some XLB and chicken fried rice. I bought it for my bf work party, and this is the first thing gone! Everyone loves it and wanted more! Here's what we had: Pork and crab XLB - delicious! So soft and delicate, great flavor. Spicy pork and shrimp wonton - the wontons were out of this world. This is one of my favorite dishes at DTF - this one wasn't quite as spicy and I prefer the sauce/toppings at DTF but the wontons were superior. Spicy eggplant - this was AMAZING! Decided to come here for dinner when we came down to the area to make a trip to Ikea. It's in the Great Wall Shopping Center. There's a decent amount of parking, but I would recommend parking further away as it is mayhem in the lot. We were the first ones in there for a Saturday night dinner. We decided on an order of the soup dumplings, green onion pancakes, garlic string beans, pork ribs dry hot pot, and braised beef noodle soup. Very similar to our order at Din Tai Fung. Food came out steadily and at a decent pace. The soup dumplings were good, not as good at DTF, but they were filled to the brim with soup. The green onion pancake and string beans were very good, I love all the garlic with the string beans. The dry hot pot was our favorite, hands down. It was well cooked and had amazing flavor. The spicy braised beef noodle soup came out last. And this was our least favorite dish. The noodles were hand made but clunky and didn't soak up any of the soup flavor. I never knew what Xiao Long Bao (XLB) was until Din Tai Fung opened Washington's first location in the U-Village in 2013. The XLB craze started to catch on and then came along the local chain Dough Zone. I did a recent search on XLB locations and Mama Dough at Great Wall popped up. When I was a kid I used to go grocery shopping with my parents at 99 Ranch but over the years more Asian Supermarket options started popping up in the south end like Seafood City, H-Mart, and Lam's Seafood so I've been out of the loop with Great Wall's shopping center until now. If you're a XLB fan, then you've probably already eaten here. Din Tai Fung (DTF), Dough Zone (DZ), and Mama Dough (MD) are all great options for XLB so I think the best way to do this review is by doing a comparison breakdown of the things I usually order. Beans with Garlic: I like DTF's quality. MD's quality isn't as good but has a larger portion size Seafood Dumplings (Fried): Not really a fan of MD. Rather go with DTF or DZ Wonton Soup with noodles: I like both DTF and MD equally Crab Xiao Long Bao: I like DTF, DZ, and MD equally Shrimp Fried Rice: I like both DTF and MD equally but MD has a larger portion size and uses a tad bit more oil Mama Dough is a place to eat after shopping or for taking food to go. It's a no frills casual dining spot. MD uses styrofoam packaging for to-go orders whereas DTF and DZ has more eco friendly and reusable packaging. We were seated right away, the menu was given but the service was very slow, waited for about 20 minutes to take our order. The service was quick and friendly! The XLBs are delicious - I'd say dough zone and DTF are still better, but they definitely hit the spot. I had bookmarked Mama's Dough ever since the Seattle Times had written its glowing review of it years ago, and finally did we trek south for this dumpling gem. Located in the Great Wall Mall, parking right outside the entrance is easy to find in its large lot. Once you enter the mall, the restaurant is not far. We visited on a Saturday for a late lunch and were able to get a table right there and then. Yet, the place was pretty steady with people dining in and takeout orders. Service was absolutely wonderful. We had our dog with us in a stroller and they allowed us to bring her in. The owner even gushed over her. Um, yeah. If you love my dog then you are immediately a friend of mine. Throughout our entire lunch, multiple employees checked in with us. We ordered the pork xiaolongbao and my boyfriend had the wonton soup while I had the spicy beef brisket noodle soup. Food didn't take long to get and everything was delicious. First thing's first: xiaolongbao was awesome! The dough was light, and the dumpling was stuffed with juicy pork and soup. We were given soy sauce, vinegar and ginger to top it all off for the win. Compared to DTF, the pork was much more succulent and dough tasted fresher. At times when I've been to DTF, the top of the dumpling where the twist is gets dry and hard. Not the case here. And it's cheaper. Annndd, the noods were handmade. You can see the staff in the kitchen doing their thang by twisting and twirling the dough in the air.
