FOUR MONTHS OF UNRETURNED CALLS, EXCUSES, AND AN APPALLING IN-PERSON EXPERIENCE…read more For approximately four months, my husband and I have repeatedly and politely attempted to obtain a response from attorney Jackie Jones of Jones & Associates in Media, Pennsylvania. Our question concerned a divorce Ms. Jones handled for a former client who is now incapacitated and living in a nursing facility. That client and her former spouse jointly owned a dilapidated property that is now in active foreclosure. We have a cash investor prepared to purchase the property, potentially preventing the foreclosure, but we first need to determine whether the divorce decree addressed the incapacitated former client's ownership interest. We understand that attorneys have confidentiality obligations. If Ms. Jones could not discuss the matter without authorization, a simple response explaining that would have been entirely reasonable. Instead, we received months of silence, unreturned telephone calls, shifting explanations from the receptionist, and no meaningful direction whatsoever. My husband even went to the office in person in an effort to get a basic response. We were repeatedly told that Ms. Jones was attempting to obtain the divorce decree or had filed some type of petition concerning it, yet four months later, we still had no answer or clear explanation. Out of frustration with being continuously ignored, I personally visited the office. I politely identified myself and explained why my husband and I had been trying to reach Ms. Jones. The receptionist went into Ms. Jones's office and returned to inform me that Ms. Jones would not speak with me unless I paid a $300 consultation fee. After four months of unanswered calls and unsuccessful attempts to obtain even basic direction, demanding $300 before providing any response was astonishing. I firmly--but civilly--asked why no one could have simply explained this requirement months earlier or told us what authorization or documentation would be necessary. At that point, Ms. Jones emerged from her office, accused me of being rude, disrespectful, and disruptive, and ordered me to leave. I was not yelling, threatening anyone, or behaving aggressively. I was frustrated and firm after four months of being disregarded, but I remained civil. What was most troubling was not that Ms. Jones may have been legally unable to disclose information. It was her office's complete failure to communicate that clearly, professionally, and promptly. One returned telephone call or brief written response explaining that she could not discuss the case--or directing us to the appropriate public record, title professional, or authorization process--could have resolved this months ago. Instead, we encountered prolonged silence, inconsistent explanations, a last-minute $300 demand, and outright hostility when I attempted to obtain clarification in person. Based entirely on my family's experience, I would never trust this office with a matter requiring responsiveness, compassion, urgency, or professional communication. Anyone considering retaining Jackie Jones or Jones & Associates should ask very specific questions about response times, consultation fees, and whether telephone calls will actually be returned. Our experience was dismissive, unnecessarily antagonistic, and profoundly unprofessional. I cannot recommend this attorney or her office.
