Good butcher, real nice steaks and a great range of sausages. Reasonable prices, but considering the meat is top class, totally worth it.

Thankfully, they came through with the goods but given their range of gourmet items, deli meats, fresh produce and cheese I was also now at the mercy of so much more than my hunt for buckwheat flour. No, I don't know how I also managed to buy moroccan spiced broad beans. Fresh Sensations, located near Coles in the bottom floor of Carindale Shopping centre, looks schmick and offers just as schmick looking products. If you're local and need a place to buy quality and niche food items this would be my pick.

'We can't match the hours of the big chains' owner Michael James says, 'We have to add value in other ways'. Service is a key as is understanding the chain of product. There's no bulk buying from mass producers. Michael works directly with farmers who he has built a relationship with. All beef is grass fed, ensuring better animal welfare and a good eating at the table. Lamb is sourced from Tasmania as he believes this is where the best lamb comes from in Australia. The shop works with customers with food intolerances or allergies, providing advice on suitable products and keeping artificial inclusions to a minimum. CN Quality Meats also has a strong online presence with specials, recipes and updates on what's happening in the shop. During elections, CN Quality Meats supplies community groups with around 4000 sausages for election day BBQs. Michael talks about how important it is to contribute to and be part of the community. Any meat left over from the Christmas trade is donated to local charity Mama Rene's for street kitchen's to feed the homeless over the holiday period. Great meat, great service, great attitude. Turns out, Coorparoo is pretty well equipped. And if I recall rightly, West End doesn't have an organic butcher. Watch out--Coorparoo could be the next big thing! Allsop and England is a fantastic little butcher and everything in there is organic except the cheerios. Most of their meat comes from an organic grower in Roma and their chicken from an organic free range grower in Murgon, so you can be sure that your meat isn't travelling too far. They not only sell all your regular cuts of meat beef, lamb and pork, but also do a few things out of the ordinary like goat and duck. We bought a whole duck from there the other day and roasted it--amazing. The prices are reasonable, in fact really reasonable considering it's organic. I'd say it's definitely cheaper than buying Coles organic meat, for example. With so few organic butchers around, I would make a special trip just to go to this butcher. In fact, I'd like to make a habit of it.
ORGANIC BUTCHER. What more possibly needs to be said?…read more Eating organic meat has always been far more important to me than eating organic veggies (if you can do both, you get pats on the back). Luckily, today, I'm going to save you from a long winded, morally righteous rant about it. I'll keep to the basics which are said as simply as this: ORGANIC MEAT IS GOOD FOR YOU, THE ANIMAL, AND THE FARMER. SHOP HERE. ALL THE TIME. START TODAY. Allsop and England also like to keep it local too. You'll see the signs proudly exclaiming that they like "to keep it Australian". Most of their meat comes less than 10 hours driving distance away in Queensland, and so, in the grand scheme of things, these guys are really keeping it close to home. They don't really do 'fancy' here. They've got all your classic cuts, and meats, but nothing too over the top or flashy. They don't need to draw you in using tricks. They're local, they're organic. What more do you want? I am ecstatic to report that the prices are no more expensive than what you'd find at Coles or any other non organic butcher. Are you reading this properly? At Allsop and England, you essentially pay less to eat better meat. I hope I've made my point clear. This is your new butcher. It's good for you, your pocket, for the butcher, for the animals, for the farmers that supply the butcher. Feel proud to purchase your flesh goods here.

It was a typical summer day when I went to pick up my prize and the cool environment that greeted me as I entered this local butcher immediately put me in a good mood. The cheery gentleman that greeted me with a loud and exuberant hello only exacerbated that feeling. As he collected up my assortment of lamb, pork, sausage and steak he chatted cheerily as all about him what seemed like a dozen staff filled trays, helped other customers and washed up. The whole experience left me feeling good about the fact the food I was about to consume was coming from such an experienced and efficient team. And after cooking up some of their hamburger patties and pork steaks I feel even better.

Chicken and pig can be found in various manifestations in the other fridge. The major drawcard for me is the varieties of sausage they sell there (all priced at $7.99). Worchestershire sauce sausage? Herb and garlic? Spanish chorizo sausage that isn't actually chorizo sausage (it's a bit of an odd one, I know)? How about sun dried tomato sausage? Whilst not on display, they also have specialty meats written up on their chalk board, like peking duck, so be sure to ask if what you're looking for isn't in the cabinet. My favourites are their osso bucco for only $6.50/kg (great for tenderising in a slow cooker) and their free-range eggs, the cheapest I've come across in Brisbane. I also like their whole free-range chickens, costing around $7/kg. They come with their innards removed, making it quick and easy to stick them in the oven. The only downside is that they don't seem to sell free-range chicken breasts and the chicken breasts they do sell are so big, you have to wonder about the steroid content. Service is mixed, depending on who you get. Some employees there can be a bit abrupt, others really friendly. Either way, it beats Coles!
