I must admit that I thought Jules Verne lived in Paris since, well, everybody of importance seemed to live in Paris in those days. Well, since his house is in Amiens I guess not. Anyway, once you see the house it does sort of stand out, and the statue of Jules Verne on the otherside of the road is probably not a huge giveaway, particularly since it isn't opposite the house, but when I saw the domed at the top I knew that this was basically the former home of the father of Science-fiction. Anyway, the house is sort of a mix between a museum of everything Jules Verne, and a replication of his house. There is even one room that has been done up as a model of the bridge of the Nautilus. They don't have a cafe, but they do have a vending machine, and Jules Verne books for sale (not surprisingly). I'm not sure how you get up into the tower, but you can get into most of the rooms (except for his study, though you can sort of look into it, it was just that the door wasn't open wide enough to get a good look). Still, definitely worth checking out if you are a bit of a science-fiction buff (though it generally isn't open on Tuesdays). read more
