With that said though, I do enjoy various types of homemade style chocolate and that is really what Casa Aramendia brings to the table. Located within the tight alleyways of old town San Sebastian, most may pass it by, but do yourself a favor and bookmark this if you are a chocolate fan as it is worthwhile. The staff is very friendly, speak good English, and more than willing to help you choose some delectable chocolate. While browsing around I'd suggest watching the back room where they are making the chocolate you are eating at the moment or in the process of buying. Like most chocolate stores, they are willing to let you nibble on a few samples to help you decide which bunch you will be devouring. One downside, which is a bad word to use in this case, is the chocolate is not cheap, but trust me it is worth it as the flavors are intense and insanely tasty!

You can watch them making sugar almonds in the window, and you come in for a sample and come out with a whole bunch of goodies. The service was excellent. They knew which products are vegan, which are made of lard or butter. You can find chocolates in all different shapes and characters. They have fancy truffles, the biscuits, or pastas, are wonderful. Service was friendly and welcoming! Try their sugar covered sesame seeds. They're amazing!

This quite urbane area stood in direct contrast to the busy historic alleyways of the Old Town where the pinxto bars are. We happened by this compact market because of all the fresh produce out on display (photo: http://bit.ly/2D4UxRh). Inside we saw a lot more variety of food with freshly baked bread and all sorts of colorful candies and licorice whips (photo: http://bit.ly/2Bz0ndm). This was a worthwhile stop to buy snacks for our mini-hike up Monte Urgull the following morning.
