Also had to work through covid because we were "essential" and after everything quadrupled in price, my wage stayed the same year after year after year at a measly $13/h and when I asked for a competitive raise (pretty much every other business in town was STARTING people out at at least $15-$17/h, even high school kids just starting out at McDonalds were starting out higher then me and thats not even factoring in my nearly 2 decades of cashier and sales experience) to help me pay my bills and keep a poverty level roof over my head I was offered a $0.50 raise..... needless to say, that wasn't even enough to pay my light bill so I quit.... if you want a job you're better off nearly anywhere unless you're looking for a very low paying side gig with zero advancement opportunities, you won't survive on the full time slave wage.... you'll also often be asked to work your entire shift alone with no break but also have to complete the tasks of 4 different positions within the position ex: stocking the cooler whilst running the register while also completing all the janitorial duties whilst also helping people on the sales floor while also running security for yourself whilst also picking up trash in the parking lot whilst also answering phone calls.... the schedule is also 365 days a year.. you WILL be open and you WILL work and you WILL miss Every. Single. Holiday. with your family and you will not get extra pay for doing so.. no time-and-a-half for holidays or for overtime, no paid vacation, no health care, no bonuses... your title will be "Sales Associate" but that is merely a work around title so they can get away with not paying you time-and-a-half for any overtime you may be asked to work, because belive me, I promise there is absolutely zero commission on anything you sell.... other than all that it's a pretty chill place to work, some of the employees there deserve way better though.... if you're a customer reading this and you made it this far, don't be rude to the employees because I guarantee you they do not get paid anywhere near enough to deal with you and your attitude and that's not their fault

Luckily for me, there is an alcohol store that's basically next door to my friend's workplace called Liquorland. As I was waiting for my friend to wind down from her workday activities and to lock up, I made a visit to Liquor Land to see what they had to offer. During my time there, I decided to pick up a bottle of wine to celebrate a milestone in my 50 states marathon journey - 2nd round. Passing half way in a quest as huge as that one deserves some sort of recognition, don't you think? And so, I arrived here around 4:45pm after checking in with my friend. The liquor store was basically empty, since the last customer had exited while I entered the store. The store itself was rather large for its inventory, boasting a large and various assortment of beers, wine, and other assorted drinks that can surprise picky individuals and delight the mass of crowds on a sunny day. The store itself was clean and very methodical in how they shelve the bottles. I eventually purchased a Pinot noir that seemed legitimately good and was under $20. I assumed that I have ice at the hotel, so I didn't need the bottle pre-chilled. Probably cost less too. My time here at Liquor Land Kansa City was fairly brief and lasted about 15 minutes. The service here was good and I didn't get carded either. Probably too old. Lol The overall experience here at Liquor Land Kansas City was short and sweet, while Being cool and awesome at the same time. It was nice that I did not get asked to show Identification, which means I look old enough or just look old. Regardless of what circumstances, it was left at that. The dude at the counter was nice and friendly. I even asked if the most of them, including the one I was purchasing was a twist off top. (I had a fun time trying to get the top off in my hotel room. After even looking up tutorial videos on YouTube, it finally twisted off and I got ice from the hotel ice machine.) I walked through the entire stock of wine and was a little shocked at the prices. Some were cheap and others, not so much. Probably due to the brand or where it came from, selling price of wine can range from $10 to $25+. It was scary to see some over $30 and that's with the current inflationary pressures of 2022. I think 1/4 of the inventory was in the fridge to keep cold and the rest was shelved in the middle of the store. Store itself is nice to navigate and small enough to see everything within 10 minutes. Liquor Land Kansas City is located at 100934 Ambassador Drive near the KCI airport and the Zona Rosa shopping center. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. For the most part though, having not be carded was a nice thing but that means I'm aging quicker than I realized physically. Ugh and sigh at the same time. I arrived here via Uber but since the area has a lot of parking spaces, you can park where you want to. As far as public transportation goes, you should consult the KC bus authority to make sure you get the routing information good so you can arrive here during normal business hours. For the most part though, celebrating with a bottle of Pinot Noir was a good thing. Running marathons is another good thing too. Just needed a reason to have that Pinot noir for the days we aren't out there taking the miles and naming names. If you are in the area and need alcohol for a special event or just because, consider coming here to Liquor Land near KCI airport. It's a nice quiet store that has a bunch of stuff you may not find anywhere else. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.0 stars for the service and selection. 3.5 stars for the prices. Support local! B

Upgrading from four to five stars. This has become my go-to destination for everything adult…read morebeverage related. No, it's not the biggest store in the city, but to my mind it has become the best. Why? Three important ways: 1) Best service, never fail. Walk in the store and they ask if they can help, but they stay out of your way if you tell them you don't. Try getting help in some of the other stores? Difficult, typically. 2) Superb selection. Everything I'm looking for and more is here, and the people working here are pros. I asked today about the 200 yr. anniversary Guinness, guy doesn't blink and said they had a run on it but expect to be replenished in tomorrow's shipment. Not an unusual response, particularly the workers in the back who really seem to have it under control. 3) Consistency, see #1 and #2. I get this every time I arrive. No shortages, no folks standing around with hands in their pockets, no bored "when is my shift ending" looks on faces, etc. I can even recycle my wine corks here. I like that. And yet I can still come in and get surprised at what I can find, and that really makes me happy. The convenient parking is also a real plus, and with the laws recently changed the store has gotten larger (no need to separate out things like glassware into another internal "store" etc. Just keeps getting better so happy to revisit this review.

On The Rocks is a nice, large, easy-in-easy-out kind of place with really good selections. I went in hoping picking out a nice variety for a nearby event, and it was easy to find everything; good local brews, chilled wines tiered off by price, and a cart to haul it all around in. Service was pretty good as well as I needed a bag of ice and the nearby cashier overheard me and brought it over for me as I checked out. Between this and Cork & Barrel, the LFK liquor store scene is in good hands.
