If you'd like, you can also grab a drink or food while enjoying the event. The museum hosts special First Friday events every month, creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere where people can gather, socialize, and appreciate art and culture. For convenient parking, I recommend the Aliʻi Place parking garage, where parking is very affordable. It's a great way to spend an evening in downtown Honolulu, whether you're a local or a visitor.

I recently visited this place a couple of times because I was attending a meeting nearby. They are…read morelocated at the Chinatown Gateway Plaza on the 2nd floor. This is the same building that has the satellite city hall office. Parking is either on the street or in nearby lots. There is a municipal parking lot in the same building which entrance is on Bethel Street. Parking is cheap. Both times I went, it was on a Sunday. I found the DAC to be so interesting with the artwork displays from mostly local artists. There is a different exhibit each month and the best part, it's free to visit. They also hold art classes there. The layout of the center is a decent size, white walls, and spacious walking thru. They also have their own restrooms which were very clean. In January, the monthly exhibit was about the WWII internment camp in Waipahu as part of the Honouliuli National Historic Site's 10th anniversary celebration. It was informative & I learned somethings that I never knew before. In March the Hawaii Watercolor Society had a member's showing, which was also an interesting exhibit seeing the beautiful water color paintings. Overall, nice experience to check out.

Not particularly well laid out with a table right as you walk in. Seemed clunky. Also - I was bugged that the work was not necessarily level...either the pieces were cockeyed or the labels were...sometimes both. And it was also weird that the labels didn't seem to be uniform...with one (maybe 2?) artist(s) having a QR code. Perplexing. The show itself was good...if kinda redundant.

With the Festival of the Pacific being hosted in Honolulu this year, you can expect to see some fantastic exhibits coming up! The most recent exhibit I caught was Storyboards of Palau, featuring wood carvings from various artists of that Pacific Island nation. I knew of the storyboards from the few I saw on Guam, but this exhibit taught me how the art form evolved over the decades, from simple carvings to more ornate works that eventually eschewed painted boards for all wood. The gallery also offers family activities to go along with the exhibit, and on the last day you could make notecards and kids cardboard "necklaces" with stamps featuring the stylizations on the boards. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and such a great extension of the work being done by EWC. If you've never gone, check out the website for the next exhibit and plan to go! Parking: There's a visitor lot near the Kennedy Theater that's free on Sundays - it's the first left after you pass the East West Center!

He had a small table set up at the start of the market, with some of the most beautiful wood pieces I have seen for sale. As I spoke with Kimo , he explained that he works exclusively with native Hawaiian woods. He was very knowledgeable about the individual woods. He had many different items in pretty much any price range, and he makes each piece by hand. His attention to detail and beautiful craftsmanship is evident in each of his pieces. I am so glad I found his work. I'm taking several pieces back to Seattle with me. If your on Oahu make sure you check out his work. You'll be glad you did.

Getting there is quite the experience of hairpin turns and winding roads, but once you see the low sprawling home, your blood pressure will return to normal. With its Japanese aesthetic and simple clean lines, the home captures the ambience of country cabin meets mid-century modern innovation and convenience. Once occupied by the Lilijestrand family, today the House is a showpiece of architectural excellence best experienced on a small guided tour. We were lucky to have Lisa and Kim as our guides, regaling us with one fascinating story after another along with intimate peeks into the lives of the architect and the homeowners. The breathtaking views from every room in the house is as gasp-inducing as the artwork and amazing nooks and crannies. Betty Lilijestrand oversaw the construction and it's her foresight along with Ossipoff's brilliant design that makes one marvel at their genius. Remember to wear shoes that can be removed easily, and plan to do some walking and taking lots of photos. And ... I imagined if I lived here I wouldn't want to leave! A wonderful experience that I highly recommend! Enjoy!
