They even gave my kids little nets to catch fireflies with, etc. They provided us wood to help level our RV correctly. We were there 4th of July last year and it was incredibly hot but their pool is very clean and kept the kids happy when we were not at the lake. Only downside was ATT does not have good signal around Raystown.

Compare this to a 3+ hour drive from Reston, VA to Altoona! When we arrived, there was one other plane on the tarmac. As I deplaned, my nostrils were greeted with the pungent odor of manure! This little airport is amidst Pennsylvania Farm Country! When you walk into the terminal, you are immediately at Baggage Claim. There is only one Baggage Claim carousel. They did not bother to turn it on. They walked my suitcase from the plane into the terminal. There is a small gift shop - but it was closed when we arrived. Upstairs there is also a small restaurant - which did not appear to be open when we arrived (about 6:15 pm). Unlike the previous reviewer - Lisa D. - I had decent cell coverage on AT&T. I had at least 3 bars inside the terminal.

She took the time to provide us with a tour of one of the most complete and original victorian homes built during the age of the lumber barron. What alterations where made to make it a B&B with a private bath for each room was done thoughtfully so no awckward showers in what used to be coat closets or anything. the rooms are eleganly decorated and furnished with out to much stuff that often gets cramed into every corner of most B&Bs. Great refreshments in the evening even better breakfast in the morning and plenty of local information and recomendations. As a traveler who tries to support small business I often feel like I am making a contrubution because not all of the places I have stayed really provide a complete and easy stay. This time the bargain was all mine.

There is a ping pong table in the basement and my only suggestion would be to add a pinball machine and/or arcade style game. We went to nearby Hawn's Overlook of Raystown lake. Absolutely beautiful. We hope to make Bear's Paw Lodge a pre-christmas tradition. Though I can see this place growing in popularity.

This place is mostly seasonal sites with a few transient sites. When we arrived the owners were very friendly and helpful. I had asked on the phone about their dump station. When the owner saw the size of our rig (40' diesel pusher) he was concerned we couldn't fit into the dump station. He immediately offered to bring the pump rig over and empty our tanks. He even said he'd come by in the morning to pump us out before we left. The sites are plenty bug and nice decks on many of them. They are tucked into the woods and it is very quite and peaceful. All this for $35 a night. Great place to stop if your traveling by if they can accommodate you. Wonderful friendly owners and a peaceful place to relax. Thanks for a great experience!

The Everett Railroad offers both steam and diesel engine powered excursions from March through December. I personally purchased tickets for the sunset steam train ride in August. The railroad let me purchase dinner to enjoy on the train as well, which I appreciated since it made it easier to plan my day trip (well, more like a half day trip). I made sure to arrive early for my ride so I could check in and explore the gift shop, because you always need to explore the gift shop! The Everett Railroad's isn't as large as the one at Strasburg or Cass, but it was still nice to browse and had a good mixture of items ranging from clothes to pins to books to toys. After checking in and picking up my general seating ticket (plus my branded lunchbox with my meal) I could choose where I wanted to sit during the one-hour train ride. That said, I opted not to sit at all! I stood in the railroad's combine car (i.e. a combination passenger and baggage car) and took in the sights there. The sights included a mixture of beautiful countryside as well as an industrial site. The staff operated a limited bar and sold snacks in the combine car as well, so there was a lot of foot traffic coming and going during the ride. Despite that the experience was relaxing and enjoyable (aside from some teenage boys being teenage boys at one point, but I did my best to ignore their loud and crass sense of humor in the interest of not encouraging them. Teenagers, right?). I'm glad I came out to support this railroad, and I'd definitely make plans to come back with friends sometime - Rails & Rosé looks like a fun ride to try next!
