"...A TRULY FABULOUS MELBOURNE EXPERIENCE ~ HONESTLY & SINCERELY RECOMMENDED..."
Yesterday evening our family group, along with possibly 90 others, thoroughly enjoyed the MAGIC CHARTERS DINNER CRUISE [3 1/2 hours] aboard The Kingfisher II - Embarkation/Debarkation Point: Dock 5, Water Plaza, Victoria Harbour Promenade, Docklands.
1. THE BOAT:
A huge catamaran.. 2 storeys.. Roomy.. Fully air-conditioned.. Wall to wall windows.. 6 impeccably clean restrooms.. Designated 'smoking'.. Well maintained.. Professionally decked out.. Crisp white cotton cloths.. Quality cutlery and crockery.. Fresh white roses on table..
2. THE CREW:
Many.. Professional.. Efficient.. Thoroughly committed.. Nothing a bother.. Friendly.. Affable.. Laid back.. Love what they do..
3. THE JOURNEY:
A gentle non-stop cruise from Docklands to Williamstown, and back, with remarkable sightseeing along the way - Under the Bolte Bridge.. Under the Westgate Bridge.. Up close and personal with monster Container Ships, loading and offloading.. A glide through the crisp calm waterways.. The full Melbourne sunset.. The picturesque marina at Williamstown.. The many avid fishing men and women - on bridge, pier, jetty, rocks, dredge banks and little bobbling boats.. The magnificent Melbourne skyline - day and night views.. The fresh wind.. The sea air..
4. THE FOOD:
Two course casual serviced Buffet with UNLIMITED serviced - Beer [heavy and light], Wine [very drinkable red, white, sparkling and a dessert choice], Soft drinks [glassed with ice, lemon wedges, straws], Chilled filtered Water, Coffee & Tea [served in white china with saucers]
The main table was freshly set:
-shucked oysters with lemon wedges - fresh, chilled, sweet..
-whole king prawns with cocktail sauce - fresh, good size and lemon water on tables for rinsing..
-Greek salad - freshly made, nice fetta.. [don't think this was dressed, not a big deal - the tomato chunks provided juice]
-pear, walnut & rocket salad - walnut halves, crisp green pear, super fresh rocket.. [I could not taste the dressing.. it would have enhanced this delish salad.. it may have been forgotten]
-Caesar salad - generous with the eggs and the crisped bacon [again, though, I couldn't really taste a dressing]
-bread rolls & butter - gorgeous little super fresh crisp soft rolls and real dairy butter..
-barramundi poached in lemongrass sauce - seriously delicious fillets and such an unctuous sauce..
-beef goulash with sour cream - tender chunks.. good base..
-chicken in cream sauce - I really enjoyed this.. well-cooked thigh fillet.. mustard flavoured creaminess..
-oven roasted chat potatoes & skin on Japanese squash pumpkin
-steamed whole green beans - fresh.. crisp.. [if these had only been tossed in butter, olive oil or some sort of dressing]
-vegetable lasagne - looked lovely..
-boneless roasted lamb - I loved this.. freshly carved, beautifully cooked - juicy, just pink, melt in the mouth, no fat..
-home-made gravy - nice and dark.. more a jus than a gravy.. perfectly seasoned..
Then:
-fruit platter - stunning.. freshly sliced trio of melons.. black grapes on stem.. large strawberries rinsed and halved..
-mini pavlovas - creamed and fruit garnished..
-iced chocolate cake - moist.. good flavour
-sticky date cake - date pieces.. crushed pistachios.. caramel flavoured icing..
-vanilla ice-cream
-jellied cheesecake slice - firm biscuit crumb.. lovely cheese filling.. pureed raspberries in the jelly..
-cheese board - good selection of cheeses & crisp crackers..
[Oh, and the best bit.. whilst there are leftovers.. guests are more than welcome to seconds]
5. THE PRICE:
$198 per person All Inclusive - Worth it.. especially if you drink..!! [We paid $99 each - Yes.. A Groupon Voucher.. Yes.. An absolute steal..]
[The food was ALL - fresh, morish and lovely... but, I would have included a rice dish - a little oversight.. those very tasty sauces needed something to soak into... And, I'd suggest serving the cold dishes on an entree plate, as a starter... then offering the hot foods, as a main... Thus, I'd market it as a "3 COURSE SERVICED BUFFET DINNER with CHEESE BOARD, TEA & COFFEE and UNLIMITED BEER, WINE & SOFT DRINK" - I think this might get 'HER' on the water, on a much more regular basis - like every weekend.. and 'SHE' is certainly equipped with everything required.. to be doing this..]
A FAB EXPERIENCE.. NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT.. AND A GOOD INTERESTING MIX OF GUESTS - WELL BEHAVED HIP YOUNG PERSONS.. ROMANCING COUPLES.. UPMARKET TRAVELLERS.. FAMILY GROUPS WITH BIG KIDS..
WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME and A MEMORABLE DINING EXPERIENCE.. YOU MUST DO THIS, AT LEAST ONCE..!!
[And if you have overseas or interstate guests - It's a quality outing - Will leave them warm with great memories of Melbourne 'on the water']
WE WILL GO AGAIN.. SO DEFINITELY..
To the captain and crew.. especially Mr Parminder.. upstairs.. you were a 'class act' and a delight..!!
