Scott Miley Roofing

Scott Miley Roofing

If I could give Scott Miley less than one star I certainly would. I am thoroughly disgusted and…read morecompletely done with him for several reasons. First reason came last winter when we had ice dams forming at the edge of one of the valley's on the roof that eventually of course curved up and under the eves and then when it melted of course trashed 3 rooms (3 story house), from carpeting to drywall to insulation. Since I am a good carpenter I took on the demo project myself and finally finished demo and reconstruction on all of the damage. I probably have 50 hours total and maybe $5000 in materials, new carpeting, drywall, etc. I of course called Scott Miley Roofing in the spring last year to get an estimate after the snow came off the roof. His workers came out eventually, maybe 2 weeks later, which was fine since we were in no danger now, and gave me an estimate of $698.00 to replace the valley metal and patch obvious tears or holes in the metal roof near that trouble valley. Well spring came and went. Up to 6 phones calls and messages left for several months thru summer and not a single return call. One person eventually suggested that maybe I was call the wrong number...WTF? By now it is late fall and even after 6 phone calls and messages and estimate/invoice numbers indicated a firm bid and outlining what work was to be done, by the 7th call to them in late fall we finally got someone to take responsibility and get someone out there to do the work. The were very nice workers but did not speak english well at all and some of them did not speak english at all. The one worker that did speak decent english after their work was done said they replaced flashing and plugged holes that they did not see during their initial estimate visit. I thought to myself, well if the job is done correctly then paying them an additional $350 would be money well spent and then I could finish laying carpet back down. So I paid the new invoice of $1100 without making an issue of it. Still 7 phones calls and the invoice is now 33% higher? At least it is done....or so I thought. After 50 hrs of demo and reconstruction on my part and the horrible experience with the Miley team, yes, it still leaks and in exactly the same spot. It has again dripped down 3 floors again requiring me to re-demo all that I did to put that house back together. This is the winter of our discontent now. The snow levels in the NW are horrific. When we called Scott Miley this time to bring them out and see what needs to be done other than the obvious which is break thru the new ice dam which is exactly at the same valley intersection, he sends out one person from the original team that was out in late fall and the others were new but again not great communicators since they barely spoke english. I helped these guys set their ladders and other set up's while one fellow climbed up to break up the ice dam which he did with great proficiency. I just knew that the next sunny day as the ice and snow on the roof begins to melt it would definately come dripping thru as we had already seen, all of it in exactly the same spot. The workers haven taken all spring summer and fall to arrive and did this at the last minute did not suggest any permanent fix or solution other than their work was done and it should not leak. I realize chasing down leaks is a tough task but it seemed there was much more to be done to insure that this does not happen in the same spot again which of course it did. Now I will be $10,000 out of pocket not having submitted this to my insurance company since they would tell me to get a hotel room for 6 months while they pretend to do mold remediation...NOT. Well to end my Scott Miley story, he then sent me an invoice though I asked him to come out and see for himself the damage and the area of leakage and he simply added a comment line to his new $250 invoice for ice dam removal that his is not responsible, that he did his work properly. Not even a call back or any contact from him as his assistant had indicated he would do to make things right. I realize that my house is in Sun Valley Idaho and everyone assumes everyone else is filthy rich but doing the right thing has little to do with money, which I am not rich but I am principled and that is the reason for letting others know about this firm which appears to have little principals, just money! Save your money on new or remodel construction and find a reputable roofing firm in Blaine County Idaho (Hailey, Ketchum, Sun Valley and Bellevue). Save some headache and frustration and do not give this firm your business!!!! They are horrible. I am back to square one. Terry Rich 121 North Colorado Gulch Rd Hailey ID 83333
