A simple, comfortable place, with espetadas (meat skewers), and other dishes. I personally enjoyed our meal here. Simple meats and salads, is up my alley. But a few things seem like they could be easy fixes.
Firstly, the $3.50 charge per head for BYO seems a little steep. Secondly, the service, while okay, was a little unattentive. After initial order, hardly got attention. Also, after starters finished, we were asked 3 times by separate servers if we enjoyed the meal, to which we confirmed, they then smiled and walked off, leaving the plates behind. When the mains came, they were squeezed next to the dirty starter plates until we had to ask them to be removed. Also, the orders are simple, espetadas, with either fries or mash. Three said mash, one said fries. It came the opposite, even though the server applauded the three mash. Just seemed a little bit unattentive. Thirdly, ownership is not Portugese, which is generally fine, but several sauces/things seemed to be a bit off (like the Peri Peri sauce). And when we asked some basic questions about Portuguese cuisine, the answers were unknown, which made me a bit skeptical about the motive of the place. Fourthly, the reason why I am making these comments, is the place is not cheap. It's about $35 for an espetadas dish (one skewer, a salad, small rice) which is pretty steep considering that besides the main skewer, the sides are extremely basic fare.
That said, I loved my espetada, and my meal in general. It's a basic ambiance, with some tasty meat. But I feel there are some really obvious factors that could be addressed that could lift this place up. Attention to detail and a bit more soul into the food/experience I guess. read more
