Do not waste your time going to the Genius Bar at Apple (which really should be called the Idiot Bar because they don't have a clue about how to fix most problems with computers or phones) Ray and Josh were so helpful and straight forward about my options when I was dealing with a dying/damaged hard drive on my macbook pro. My iMac crashed. The hard disk was no good. I was going to take this into Apple, but I had heard of this place and decided I would give this a try. It was easy to get to and easy parking. Ray is the mastermind and was very busy but assured me he would take care of the problem. Sure enough, he diagnosed the problem. He replace the defective hard drives with a solid-state hard drive, something that Apple does not offer. In addition, at my request he upgraded the memory, usually a very difficult procedure in this model but one that he was able to do because he had the machine dissected for the hard disk replacement. Somewhat to my surprise, he was able to restore the data from the crashed hard drive and completely rewrite this on to the new solid-state hard drive. This meant I did not have any reinstallation to do or lost data. He calmly explain what he had done and gave me a very reasonable price, much less than I would've had to pay an apple. I was so excited by the whole experience that I forgot to click the $30 off coupon on Yelp but, c'est la guerre, I guess. At any rate, I can recommend this place to anyone who has any trouble with his Apple equipment. read more

I purchased a MacBook laptop here a week ago, (early June 2014) and I received excellent help from Chris, who was patient and helpful while I decided on, and made my purchase! The cost was beyond affordable, and I was happy with the laptop initially-after using it for a few days Then I took my daughter there with her computer to have the screen repaired and the internet card replaced! Ray was kind enough to loan her a laptop (But not before I prepaid for her computer repair costs). Three days later, we returned for pickup of daughter's laptop and return of the loaner. I dropped her off at home & I went home! The next day my daughter called to tell me that she too, as I, realized that both of us could no longer connect to our respective secured internet networks nor did our computers recognize our networks! She & I live 17 miles apart! What a coincidence! Call me skeptic Sally, BUT I kinda think NOT COINCIDENTAL! ALSO, what a BUMMER: because my not being able to access my secured internet network at home today has costed me a MAJOR money-making business account because I could not meet my deadline! I cannot say enough good things about this place. I wish I could give it SIX stars. After waiting yesterday at the Apple Store (Grove) for a half an hour to be helped and then another half an hour to have my computer "diagnosed" they told me that it would be 3-7 days to replace my damanged track pad. They suggested I call other stores on their "list" and all had the same waiting periods for repair. Then I went to YELP to see if there were other stores in my neighborhood and this popped up. Ray answered the phone before they were open. I brought it in to their lovely peaceful shop and he told me he would have it diagnosed by noon and ready by 2pm. He lent me a computer to tide me over because he saw how stressed I was. He called me at 2 and told me to pick it up and when I did he said that it was a wire and no new track pad was needed!!! NO CHARGE Amazing careful thoughtful service. I have to admit I fell a little in love with my "loaner" and may be back. I have already told a bunch of people about this place. I recently woke up to find my husband in a panic because our old, noisy 2008 Mac Pro desktop was noisier than ever and wouldn't boot up. He was sure our financial records and music and pictures etc. were lost forever. I called Ray at MacPro-LA. He made an appointment for my husband and our computer within an hour. Don't waste your time. Have seen certain items on craigslist by this seller for weeks. So, after finding this hole in the wall I spoke with a girl who was nice but informed me the items I was interested in were sold that morning. I have a feeling they put lost leaders on craigslist to bring people to the location and then they try to sell them something else. Then one of the owners, (I assume it was an owner) came out and was a bit combative about the kind of machine I was looking for and sent on to tell me they are no longer available anywhere. End of story. Found what I was looking for about an hour ago and hour ago and picking it up tonight. A better focus on customer service might just lead to more referrals. Oh well. It is rare that one comes away from dealing with a business that really seems to have heart. That's what I would say about this unassuming business on Cahuenga just north of Franklin. Ray, the owner, is like the perfect doctor for your computer. His manner is reassuring and calming of any fear or panic you may have regarding computer issues. As luck would have it - people don't usually go to him until it's an emergency - and he handles everyone professionally and with consideration of budget, needs, and schedule. Now how many people can truly say that about a small business these days? It's old fashioned, reminiscent of days when people took a lot of pride and care in their relationships with clients and yet, it's modern because I hardly think there is a person more knowledgeable about Apple products outside of Apple themselves than Ray. He used to work for them and knows the ins and outs and knows what to expect. He even unselfishly told me how to take care of a repair myself even though he could've charged me easily and made the money himself. Wow! I was thrilled with MacPro-LA two years ago when they saved my 2011 MacBook Pro after the hard drive died, and I'm happy to report they came through again this week when the GPU finally gave out (a well-known issue on this model). They were willing to fix it, but instead of just taking my money, they warned me it would likely die again. They recommended an excellent replacement that was in my budget with much higher performance than my old 2011. And they were able to salvage the solid-state hard drive and upgraded RAM from my old computer so that investment didn't go to waste. I dropped my dead laptop off on Monday morning and Ray had me up-and-running again by first thing Wednesday. (It was actually ready Tuesday night, but I couldn't get away from work to pick it up.) When I opened my new laptop it was ready to go with all my settings exactly as I'd left them right down to the tabs that were open on my browser. It was like I'd never had a problem. And this newer model is FAST! My sincerest thanks to Ray and Jeremy for their professionalism and support. They've got a customer for life. read more
