The internal speakers and the mousepad on my very old MacBookPro (2012) gave up within days of one another; I suffered through with headphones and an external mouse (blech!) because I LOVE that this laptop has built in cd/dvd. So happy to have found Ray and Mac Pro-LA, or Pro-LA as they're now called. Ray quickly repaired my 2008 MBP for a track-pad & expanding battery issue. While I was there I noticed, in his "Used" inventory, he had the exact newer 2012 MBP model I was looking for. I purchased this and I had Ray switch out the original HD for a new SSD, at cost I might add, max out the RAM to 16Gb and reinstall a new Mavericks OS only. This machine is Smoking Fast!, and a dream to use for business. Even got a 6 month warranty on the "Used" MBP. Ray and his team are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to all Mac products. I brought my late 2014 27' iMac in for repair because it was shutting off randomly. Ray was very helpful in explaining that the power supply needed to be replaced and even offered to replace my fusion drive with an SSD. I was contemplating switching the drive out anyway, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to do so. I brought in both parts, and he was more than willing to accommodate me and my computer. MacPro is great. They checked out my MacBook Pro for free and told me it was a moderately inexpensive fix. I asked if I could take it and get a second opinion and they were very nice about it, with Ray even warning me that other shops might tell me it's a much more expensive problem. He was right. I called Mac 911 in Santa Monica and was quoted a cheaper price on the repair, so I drove (in traffic) out to take my computer in.... And it was $90 for them to even look at the computer. I eventually told the guy what MacPro said the problem was and he humphed and hawed, said that couldn't possibly be the problem, and listed a few much more expensive possibilities. I took my computer back to MacPro. They repaired my computer and were about $500 cheaper than if the Apple Store had made the same repair. Thanks guys! read more

If I could give them ten stars I would! I was having trouble with my MacBook Pro and I did what any novice idiot would do, took it to the Apple store. After three trips and confusing home work and AppleCare calls, they told me it was not salvageable and that I would need do you purchase a new computer. I dropped my computer off right before Macpro LA closed last night and I was able to pick in my fully functioning device that works like it's brand new this afternoon. My next-door neighbor recommended these guys after I went through the seven circles of MacBook Pro Hell (spinning wheel of death, start up circle with slash mark through it, start up folder with question mark, etc. etc.) and foolishly tried the DIY approach by visiting various message boards from my smartphone. Two and a half hours later, I had a MacBook that did not recognize my hard drive at all! Years of work, inaccessible! I hadn't done a proper backup in ages and was TERRIFIED I would not recover my files. MacPro LA came to my rescue. Turns out I had a bad hard drive. MacPro-LA 1) recovered all of my files, 2) reloaded the Microsoft Office suite and iLife free-of-charge, 3) made sure iTunes, iPhoto etc. were organized and working, and 4) replaced my hard drive with one that has twice the memory of my old one--all for a fraction of the cost it would have been anywhere else. I dropped my computer off on a Monday and retrieved it before close of business on Wednesday. Ray (the owner and the main person I dealt with) and Chris (who was there when I picked up my computer) were both awesome and friendly and spoke English (not computerese) to me... I did not feel condescended to in the least, or dumb (even though being stupid and careless was part of what got me in my computer fix in the first place). I can't adequately describe my relief--not only to have gotten my computer restored, but to know (from talking to others who have been through similar events) that I paid such a good price. Do yourself a favor--NEVER set foot in Melrose Mac. See these guys instead. I will be recommending them to every Apple user I know in the Hollywood area. read more

These are some of the main points I can use to describe my experience w/ Ray. It's a good feeling to find someone I can trust with my computer issues. Pro-LA is a real mom and pop neighborhood kind of place. I rarely review things on yelp but I'm STILL IN SHOCK at what a great guy Ray at Pro LA is!! My macbook wasn't charging and after some googling it seemed like it would need a new charge port. I took it in to Ray and he called later to tell me it was a simple fix and he just had to reset something. NO CHARGE. I can't even believe it. This is the third Mac Repair shop Ive been to as a mac owner and it will be my new mac repair home. If your Mac is ailing don't take it anywhere else. UPDATE: Before I took my computer in I was missing about 5 screws on the bottom. I just realized that all the screws are present and accounted for. What I love most is the PEACE & QUIET! There's NO pressure to quickly explain to a condescending "genius" what your latest colossal fuck-up is while pretending not to notice just how stupid and annoying said "genius" is making you feel. Why, yes, it was a colossal fuck-up on my part that brought me in here; I spilled my sugary, sticky drink on the keyboard and then took apart the entire computer as directed by a You Tube video. I know, I know, I had no business doing this but these are the lengths I'll go to just to avoid the Genius Bar Talabanis. 1. Ray did not not make me feel like an idiot (though he had every right to do so). 2. He removed the remaining lilliputian screws I managed to strip--free of charge. 3. He gave me an extra keyboard of his--free of charge. 4. I was able to give said keyboard back to him because the next day he fixed my Macbook in ten minutes once I realized what the underlying problem was the night before. Free. Of. Charge. 5. This is one of the best places involving mac products that I have ever been to. If you have Mac products I highly recommend you come here first. My hard drive crashed on my Macbook Pro, which is infuriating since it's only 1 year old. My biggest mistake was not backing up my info. I took it to the so called genius bar and they said well it's toast we need to replace it, but they don't do data recovery; so they sent me to Melrose Mac, which is THE worse place I've been to. Melrose Mac said they couldn't do anything, and I had to pay $50 and wait a day and half for them to tell me that, yes they charge you to just look at it. Their suggestion was to send it somewhere else and it would cost me about $450 including a $100 non-refundable diagnostic at the other place and would take about 2 weeks. Needless to say I wasn't very happy, so I searched around the net and through Yelp I found Pro-LA I liked the reviews and called Ray. He told me he would look at it and tell me, I asked how much to run a diagnostic, he said no charge to take a look at it, he doesn't do that. Wow what a difference! I took the computer in and within half an hour he was able to tell me if he was going to be able to help me or not. He did recovered all my files and everything was done right away. As far as I am concerned I'm calling Ray for all my Mac needs from now on. Highly recommend you do the same. My Mac Pro dual core 2.66z would not boot up one day. Just a scary white screen and weird neon purple lines, I suspected I was having a video card issue. Having my machine not boot up on the first day of a fairly big freelance project with a brand new client was not how I wanted to begin the morning. I entered into panic mode, calling all my IT buddies and going thorough all the weird key command functions performed during startup. Nothing could revive the beast .... and then I spotted a flyer that I had found on my door literally a week before from MacProLA. Normally I through unsolicited flyers right into the near by recycling pail. But spending allot of time around computers I kept this one. I rang the number and spoke to Ray, he said to bring it down during business hours for a free diagnostic testing. I really can't believer how knowledgeable, down to earth and genuine Ray was with me. The problem was confirmed, I just needed a new video card, and nothing else. Ray suggested a few models and mentioned that I could probably go ahead and install it on my own; which I later did. I finished the project, client was happy and MacProLA charged me nothing for their time. They also and did not try to sell me on anything else, even offering me a loner machine. The whole experience was so positive that I felt bad not paying him. I looked all over the store for something to buy... there was nothing I really needed. This place is definitely worth driving to! Since a trusted friend recommended Mac Pro LA to me I have purchased three Macs from them and have another extensively refurbished. Based off another's recommendation a couple of years ago I drove nearly 70 miles to purchase an iMac from them. Last year when my wife wanted to make the switch from Windows 8 to Mac we went back to purchase a MacBook Pro 15. When I was given a MacBook Pro 13 that someone had taken to the Apple Store to be repaired and was told it was not worth fixing I took it to Ray and got it fixed up and working great for a very reasonable charge. Yesterday I went back to purchase an iMac for my church to use for graphic design. Every single one of these computers has worked flawlessly and have exceeded our expectations both in price and performance. All of these reviews are spot on. I called asking about a possible new laptop battery and upgrading my processor and Ray told me to come in and that it would be a 48 hour turnaround to do a free diagnostic check. When I stopped by, Ray was friendly, professional and booted my computer up on the spot just to see what he could see. He remarked that it seemed like it was in great shape and that he'd call me after he ran the diagnostics. He called me less than 24 hours later to say the battery tested fine and not to waste money on a new one. He told me the HD was in great shape and that the only thing he could really recommend was upgrading my RAM (I didn't know you cannot upgrade a MacBook Pro processor). He told me the two options and actually talked me OUT of the more expensive option. He said I didn't need it. He told me I didn't really need the smaller RAM upgrade either, but that it would make the computer operate a little faster. I asked him to install that and he told me it would be ready when they opened the next morning. I went by, paid and took it home. It's been working like a charm ever since.
