This new offering of Formentera's favorite pizza place (the original one isn't even that far away in San Ferran) is conveniently located 10 feet away from my apartment! This is either great news or terrible news depending on how much pizza you are capable of eating. Being from NYC, I am certainly capable of eating a LOT of pizza! This means that I've spent a large amount of time at this place eating a lot of their pizza. The pizzas they have on offer are essentially the same pizza you can get at the original San Ferran location. The good thing about this place is that you can sit inside as well as outside, so it's really the place to be in the winter time when everywhere else on the island is closed, including the other Macondo.
This second Macondo, often called MaconDOS by the people who live in Formentera, is a very good size, and during the summer the chairs and tables aren't even available inside the restaurant. You can sit at the bar (like I often do after a long day at work) and have a beer or wine or cocktail and order an entire pizza to yourself. I recommend the Pro Funghi, which is mushrooms and ham. Throw on some spicy oil and you are good to go. You can also sit in the garden area which has large communal tables as well as smaller tables for two/four. It's a nicer lower key vibe than the Macondo San Ferran, which is generally super packed and has more of an upbeat bar vibe. This is definitely a better date place if you're looking for something a little more quiet than the other one.
The food here is the deliciousness you would expect from an Italian pizza place in Europe. I've tried quite a few of the pizzas and they've all been good to great. The lasagna here is fantastic, I've even had their Tagliatta de Ternera (steak) and it was great. The Tiramisu here is a favorite dessert of literally every Italian I go here with. They'll often order two of them: one to eat there and one to take home and eat, that often doesn't make it there as it's often devoured in the car ride back! This place is fantastic. And the fact that it's open all year round makes in an Oasis in the winter time when other places have long closed. Buon appetito! read more
