So…read morehere's a brief history, I like sticky buns and I cannot lie, the other brothers can't deny, that Packenham had the best in the space, till the recipe ended up in Carleton place. Plagiarized raps out of the way, here's my review... We heard that CP general store had amazing sticky buns and were further intrigued when rumours circulated that they had the recipe from the OG Packenham General store. We made two attempts to drive the CP to get them but the staff who was there said that they didn't have them at the time we went. I called on a Saturday morning and asked if they could put some aside.... Not only did she put some aside, she was kind enough to remember us and put a bow and ribbon on this really nice gift box for my son. We got a few other things as well, they had cheese sticks, a couple of seltzer type drinks and the butter tarts. Lemme first talk about the butter tarts - they are unlike any other butter tart and I don't think I can get them from anywhere else now - they were so delicious and although sweet, the pack of 6 disappeared over two days. Now for the sticky buns: holy shit so good, you gotta get them! That's all I gotta say - just gooey and delectable! The staff - five star! The entrance is a shared entrance with a gift and antique store so overall a really nice experience. The Carleton Place General Store gets 5 stars from me.

What started out as a $10 or $15 purchase ended up being more than double that - because of a sales person standing outside the door. She was friendly, and approached people pumping gas, to promote her wares: cans of compressed car cleaners, and she proceeded to spray the windows and headlights. It did such a good job that we picked up half a dozen cans. Hey, you never know when you'll need your vehicle to look sharp; you might be out in the middle of nowhere, and you never know who you'll run into :-)

On route after our day trip to Algonquin Provincial Park, I wanted to get some fuel before…read moreembarking home. The fueling stations were busy so there was a brief. After that, a quick pump activation by the store attendant and a fill of 87 octane. My sweetie wanted a lotto quick pick ticket...hoping to be a lucky visitor that purchased a ticket...just rolling through a small town. I used my Petro-Canada rewards card for the fuel and lotto purchase. Store staff asked if I wanted to redeem some of my points but I said I'll keep collecting for a free full tank in the future. There was a chuckle from the friendly and courteous attendant. Back on the road again!

The old 41 Stop location (next door to the LCBO) was replaced with a far superior combination gas…read morestation, general store, in-house bakery, and takeout restaurant. There is literally nothing like it for many miles around this underserved recreational area for locals, cottagers, and tourists alike. Restaurant take out/patio food is excellent & creative. Bakery treats wonderful, and the small general store is well stocked with food items. Free WiFi is appreciated in a region without cell service, too.
