Okay, so I called them weeks ago to make an appt for make-up. I've been reading the reviews here so I thought I should call and confirm my appt. (Since its a wedding I'm going to - kinda important) Well, as I write this review and I'm still on hold 20min and counting. The only reason why I'm still holding is b/c I want to see if I can finish this review before they pick up the phone! Nope, they haven't picked up yet (22 min later) I guess I wont be going over there after all. i will try the Sunvalley MAC inside Macy's instead. Ended up making an appt inside the MAC at Macy's - I show up and they didnt have me on the books and I went w/out getting my make up done. All these MACs are a waste of time. If you want to get professional help and great make up done go to the one in SF (Union St) HORRIBLE HORRIBLE...and the girl at the sunvalley location was dumb as a brick!!! read more

I am a MAC fanatic but not so much a fan of this store. I know a girl that works here, she's cool but a lot of the other guys and gals think they are above others and I'm not down with that attitude. I always get compliments from the staff when I come here but it's always so condescending. It's rare I am speaking with a genuine person. It's so offensive to me when they ask me if I did my own makeup. Um YES, you are talking to a girl with mad skills, yo! Ha Ha... The things I do like about this location are their VIP events and the convenience. They usually have a good supply of products I need and of course the recyclable program is wonderful! read more

I highly prefer this store over any of the MAC counters I've shopped at! There are more associates available to assist you during your shopping experience. If you have any questions, you actually feel like they're answered. No "eeehhh..., well, mmm.. idk" answers. Obviously, another major plus is the selection of products. I depotted a few of my cream color bases, then popped out the plastic piece from the 6 blush palette, and it fits perfectly. 5 to a row!!! A FEW TIPS: If any of you participate in the recycling program, I highly suggest you go to the actual store so you can choose from an eyeshadow OR lipstick. The MAC counters only allow you to choose a lipstick. We all know MAC is FAR from cheap, so instead of buying the eyeshadows or blushes in separate plastic containers, just go for the ones available in the pans and buy a separate pallet to store them. In the long run, it saves you money! read more

I love their staff. I am completely fixated to this one amazing lady, Sophia - she is so gifted! My makeup style transformed after I got two makeover/make up lessons from her. I highly recommend that you book your appointment with her, especially if you are an Asian who can't put any eye shadow colors to work. If you purchase $50 or more worth of their products, the makeover is free. P.S. - I took down one star and am now giving this place 4-star rating because of my last experience here. Lately, they're getting worse about making their customers wait while giving them a makeover. This happens regardless of who they get booked with. I am understanding to certain extent, but when the wait turns into 10+ minutes each run (and by run I mean the makeup artists running over to help others and/or ring the register), hence your quick makeover suddenly turns into an hour-and-a-half of ordeal, it generates cumbersome feeling about making a point to go to this place and purchase their product and get the makeup done there. I am pretty sure they can manage their staff better so that there are more dedicated register ringers and helping walk-in customers. read more

There's always a few people hanging out by all the eye shadows and browsing other stuff and workers who are busy painting faces.. so maybe they should hire more people! I came in with 2 things in mind - buy a pro palette case and a new highlighter eye shadow. I was browsing the usual colors that I've used before (Ricepaper and Shroom) and I wanted to try something new. There was an associate who was helping someone else but she had to walk over to where I was to grab something.. so I quickly asked her which colors she recommended as a highlighter. She said Phloof was pretty popular.. so I tried a sample on my hand, my sister's face and my own. NOT BAD. I made up my mind, Phloof and the 4x case. I was waiting to be helped (there were only 2 associates working) and while waiting I started walking around the store. It's really not that big, so there were only so many places I could go to. Then I stopped walking. The other associate (who was painting someone's face) finally asked if I needed help looking for anything. I told her I was ready and told her what I wanted. She excused herself from the other customer to help me out really quick. How nice. I would have wanted more help when picking out colors and I'm so easily sold when it comes to MAC. If they tried, I would have bought a lot more stuff. read more

Freakin' LOVE the girls at this store! They're always helpful, friendly, knowledgable and complimentary. (I seriously walk out of there feeling like a celebrity nearly every time I'm in there). The only reason I didn't give them a 5 Star review: One of the girls -- who I've only had the misfortune of having once -- told me the Brow Pens were being discontinued. Because I am a loyal follower of this specific item, I felt compelled to buy whatever they had in stock. (What...? A girl's gotta have her eyebrows!) ;) After coming back within a few short weeks, I was told by their Product Specialist that the pens were NOT being discontinued, nor were they being reformulated. Totally duped so that bitch could (probably) receive a higher commission. The worst of it is: some of the ones I have are turning an ashy olive on the skin, when the color should be a warm brown. Due to their corporate return policy, I'm kinda SOL... :/ In any case... I trust the majority of these girls as if they were family, as I've never been treated unfairly except for that one time. (Perhaps it helps that I'm a Pro Member and frequently drop around $300 a month there.) ;) So hurry up and go see these fabulous ladies! I promise they'll totally make your day. read more

I haven't used MAC cosmetics for too long, but whatever I do end up buying I absolutely love. I tend to stay away from the MAC store in Sun Valley because it's so crowded (ALL the time) and I can barely hear myself think over the outrageously loud music. So I, typically, find myself perusing the tables of the MAC store in Macy's. I set up a full-face makeup appointment last Friday so I could try their mineral makeup (which I love!). I was running about 15 minutes late so I called them to let them know. The woman I spoke to told me that it was ok because they were "a little behind" themselves. Perfect! I arrived 15 minutes late for my appointment, but was told when I got there that they had to finish up 2 appointments that were running late as well, so it would be another 10-15 minutes until their other makeup artist could get there and do my makeup. That's fine, I could wait. 20 minutes went by and their artist still hadn't shown. It turned out that she was running late. They apologized, but continued to chat away with their guests and amongst themselves while I began to fume. I, almost, walked out but didn't. I was celebrating my birthday that night and wanted to look good! Finally, after 30 minutes of waiting, their makeup artist showed up...without a blink of an eye or an apology for running late and, therefore, leaving me with little time to pre-party with friends at home. :( Whatever, I was going to look good! So, I asked the artist to give me dramatic eyes because I tend to play it safe whenever I do my own makeup. Dramatic eyes were what I asked for, and dramatic eyes were what I got. With my hair up in a bun and my face the way it was I looked like one of Robert Palmer (the guy who sang "Addicted to Love")'s back-up dancers. Google them, you'll see. Needless to say, I found a corner in Macy's by a mirror where I could attempt to remove the bold bronzer that was applied to my already dramatic face. Seeing as I couldn't remove it all, I walked with my head down to the parking lot to leave and prayed to God no one I knew would see me. I would suggest, for any of you brave enough to get a makeover from the MAC ladies, asking for less makeup than you want (so they give you just the right amount) and an appointment long before you have to be anywhere important. I would give them only 3 stars at this time because of their lack of hospitality and inability to have employees show up to work on time. Hopefully, my next trip will be much more successful! read more

I have mixed feelings here. While most of the SAs are friendly and attentive, its kinda hard to tell because of how busy this store is! and its tiny! It also seems that they are often out of stock on permanent items (as in not limited edition) and there are not enough SAs during peek shopping times so there is generally a somewhat long wait to get/purchase items. Overall, its a great location with awesome employees, there just needs to be better organization and more employees on the floor. Oh and they could turn down the music just a tad. That all being said, my real problem is with MAC as a company. As the years go by, especially after the whole buyout by Estee Lauder, the quality of the products has diminished while the prices have gone up, not to mention all of the Limited Edition collections being pumped out left and right. I understand that they are a profit driving company just like everyone else and LE collections = hype = people falling over themselves for it = Big Profits but at this point it is becoming so ridiculous that I have definitely stepped back and stopped buying a lot from MAC, and rarely, if ever, buy anything from these collections. read more

Every time I go to this location I stand around, waiting to be acknowledged while reps talk to each other (If they were busy with customers then I'd understand). Finally when I'm holding samples they'll say "what can I get for you?" Aren't they sales reps? Shouldn't they try to be helpful in some way? If I say something along the lines of, what would look good for my skin tone for this or that, they'll just list a few products. Ummm... okay, should I try some on? They are more like shoe salesmen. "What size do you want?" Nothing else. Buying makeup should be fun. That's why you always spend more than you mean to. Love this place. The staff is very personable. I bought a whole new set of makeup (everything) because I was unhappy with the Sue Devitt products I had been buying from Ulta. The staff was so much better than any place I had gone. The girl (don't remember her name but she has dark hair and is engaged) did such a great job, I was really happy with the products she suggested. I went back and the guy that works there (dark hair, looks like he uses Foundation - this is not a slap, it looks good on him) is really nice and I love what he did for my eye makeup. I liked it so much that if it was possible to hire their artists, I'd love for him to do my makeup for my upcoming wedding. Amazing. Three stars. While I'd like to give NO stars for my horrible experience on Friday night, I do admit I've had good service here. I'm not going to stop shopping at this MAC store because I need my MAC products and this is the most convenient spot. What happened on Friday, you ask? I came in around 5 after I got off work (and got paid ;) ) beaming with excitement to pick out a few new products with some rebuys of my old faves. There was quite a few people in the store, and more than the normal amount of workers. Despite my efforts to ask for help, I was completely ignored for more than 15 minutes. Disappointed and frankly, a little P.O.ed... I stormed out empty handed. Maybe they thought i was just some kid in there trying to touch all their eyeshadows and then leave. Little did they know I was a sure-sale and a long time customer. A bit of advice for the workers at the Sun Valley Mall MAC Store: approach every customer! I've never walked into a MAC store and not bought anything. And if it happened to me, it's happened to many before and after me, so you are losing money people... read more

I can honestly say that I am no longer a MAC junky. My wallet appreciates this :) But there ARE a few things I cannot live without. And one of those things is Fluidline. First I would like to state that I have been to MANY M.A.C. stores, and this one by FAR has exceeded my expectations. I just went here for a group Make-up class, and I am by no means, a make-up connoisseur. Every single one of these women made me feel comfortable and at ease when learning new techniques. Every time I go in the store they are always friendly and helpful, and make me feel beautiful, whether I have my make-up done, or not. They listen to what I am saying, and go above and beyond to help me find what I am looking for. If you want quality service with lots of smiles, definitely come to this store! read more

I booked my appointment to get my makeup done at least a month out. My daughter was getting married and I wanted to make sure there were no hiccups. I showed up 10 minutes early only to find that they did not have me on the books (hence the 4 stars & not 5). However, the manager assured me they would get me taken care of. I was greeted by a very friendly young lady named Mayra that was going to do my face. She asked what was the occasion, asked me the colors I was wearing and what type of skin I had. Went in to buy a gift card and was told it had to be cash or debit card no credit cards. I'm positive I purchased before with a credit card so I called the Mac store in Berkeley. They said no problem and was puzzled like me. Store policy or a way of employees to steal from the store? You be the judge. I've always had such a bad experience in this store. They never assist me they just kinda walk right past me. Another thing is I go in to the store knowing exactly what I want, it should only be a 5-10min kinda thing and they always have me waiting at least an hour. Whether it be cause I need help getting the product or I'm waiting in line while no ones at the register. Don't go to this store go to the one in Macy's it's literally across from there and you will receive better/faster service. *THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE MAC STORE LOCATED DOWN STAIRS OF THE SUN VALLEY MALL" I walk in, waiting to be greeted (because any great customer service based company usually has that) waited about 10 minutes, just walking around looking at the items. Slowly glancing back at the ONE worker who was there. She was managing two customers, one was sitting waiting to have her makeup done, and the other (someone who walked in after me) was being helped at the register. I had to walk up to the employee who didn't seem very helpful or intrigued when I asked if there were only one of her, and she responded with "well, yeah, the other person is on break" with attitude. Now, I have a very extensive back round in customer service. Today was my only day off and I thought I'd go out and try some mac foundation for the first time. I wanted someone to just "let me know" what the products were all about, what would work best for my skin ETC. After the horrible customer service here I will probably never come back to this MAC. Btw, she asked two other older women that walked in after me if they needed help. Today's my day off and I looked like a younger adult of course not dressed in my regular business clothes. I just felt very judged at this store. Honestly I would probably have purchased way more $50 dollars worth of make up today. Here's a lesson for you; 1. don't judge a book by its cover 2. Don't take out your annoyance on customers 3. Show a little sympathy when it comes to understanding why a customer is pissed off because she's been standing there for 10 minutes haven't helped (at least apologize) Bottom line. This stores employees need to be trained on customer service 101. Maybe they should pick up some tips from Nordstrom's ethics. read more

Staff is very helpful here. There's a Nicole there that has helped me a couple times. She never makes me feel rushed. I hate feeling rushed when i'm buying make-up! You have to really THINK about the purchase you're about to make, you can't just grab any ol' color on a whim. There was another really nice girl that helped me but i can't remember her name at all, i'll call her "short blondie"... she was really helpful when i needed assistance in buying my friend's grad gift. The workers here are really sweet and are really helpful in helping you find what you need. I'd love to review the products, but I never even got to them because this place was a mad house. Obviously that's not their fault, but the music in there was so loud on top of the chatter of 20 people in a 20X10 room, I couldn't hear what my friend was saying to me, let alone feel relaxed enough to browse. I'm sure the gals working there are great, they all have very expertly applied makeup (albeit their style is a bit too made up for me, so I'm not sure if getting a make over here would be up my alley) but none of them acknowledged my friend or myself - but again, it was a swamped in there. Another beef I have is that prices of products aren't listed anywhere. I understand that this is probably a commission-based shop, but it irritates me that I'm not even "allowed" to know what things cost without getting a sales pitch first. read more

This store is ALWAYS short staffed. Long waits for someone to help just to find out they are sold out of everything. Basic staple products like concealer and powder. How is that possible? And MAC is constantly discontinuing things. WHY? Why is it that you can always be sold out of a product then turn around and discontinue it? This happened five times in 2018. FIVE. I finally went to Sephora and got a replacement product because I was tired of always being told, "sorry... sold out." Or, "sorry... discontinued." I was matched with the wrong color and wasn't able to use the foundation at all. I came to the counter and handed over the product and reciept explaining to the MUA that i was matched wrong she then offers to rematch me. After finding the correct shade and walking me back to the register she then proceeds to tell me that I'm ONE day past the 30 day return policy. Like she didn't notice that before! I will no longer buy MAC from their stores...Nordstroms only for now on they have way better customer service. read more

Wow... The (junior) salesgirl who helped me was great, really cute and great makeup job which inspired confidence that she knew her way around MAC. Helped me find exactly what i wanted, but they were out of one of the products. As i stood waiting to check out, the one register-able girl walked off with another customer (who had been behind me!) and abandoned the register, making checking out impossible. Um, delegate? Anyway, after standing around patiently wasting my lunch break by being ignored for several minutes, i walked out sans purchase, and i wont ever be returning. I'll take my wasted minutes and drive a bit further to Walnut Creek, where you may wait, but it won't be blatantly discourteous. read more

Came here today to find some new nude color lipsticks. Both girls were busy when I walked but was greeted and told they'd be with me shortly. Sure enough Jennifer was with me in a few minutes. I told her what I was looking for and asked me a few questions about what I like and don't like ie. shimmery, matte, creme, etc. She is of a similar complexion to what I am so she pulled a few colors. I was hoping to find at least one shade but I found 2 plus a new lustreglass. Super happy with my purchase and her service. I will be back to see Jennifer soon :) read more

Trying to help my grandmother buy foundation, the lady who helped us gave her a NW45 I told her no shes an NW50 she got an attitude with me cause I corrected her, the 45 was clearly to light MAC always slaps on NW45 on black people and say perfect. :/ anyways the other girl was helping a customer I was looking at pro long lipstick, she rudely kept turning the stand while i was checking lipsticks, extremely rude and the lady did not even make the sale and we bought 100.00 worth of stuff.... Girls are sweet and helpful however takes them a while to get to you due to the amount of ppl in the space thats too small and almost impossible for you to look at products since someone is always behind you waiting for you to finish looking or someone is getting their makeup done right next to the makeup displays..I highly recommend the Berkeley store. read more

The friendliest girls I've seen at any MAC. Always ready to help and with a smile. The lighting in this store is way better the MAC at Macy's right across. The girl (I wish I remembered her name) pointed out that all the makeup I just purchased at Macys was completely mismatched and helped me find the right shades. Sometimes when I'm at the mall, I just like to pop in, and they always offer help right away, which i appreciate. The store is never too crowded either. read more
