We needed to create a "branding" concept for a fundraising project. We scoured the internet and…read morefound Design Works. We knew from all of the examples of work in the community that they would be a good option for a group that cared about the process as much as the product. We contacted Julia and began conversing to set up a consultation appointment. She agreed to a workable time frame and even tolerated our two year old "business" partner who was more concerned with cookies and orange juice than making a logo. Julia walked us through the process and the stages of what to expect. She expertly handled the situation and ensured we were comfortable every step of the way. She submitted multiple concepts, allowed time for review, understood our concerns, listened to our feedback, and even worked with our input and wild ideas. We ended up with a logo that really embodies the idea behind our fundraising project, an Etsy store header that ties in to our products and embodies our logo for a t-shirt design concept, an avatar to match, and a printable hang tag for merchandise. We highly recommend Julia and Design Works for any project - large or small - for all of your graphic design needs. She far surpassed our expectations in every aspect!

It was supposed to take 2-3 months max. After 6 months of many delays and only minor changes to move things along it got harder and harder to contact her, and then she stopped answering my emails, phone calls, and texts all together. I never heard from her again and I'm out one thousand dollars. She obviously isn't that talented with setting up photo sites because I've had other professional web designers look at the work done and the underlining code was a complicated mess. I finally contacted a lawyer for advice and I sent a legal document ending our original aggreement. Extremely unprofessional.

It's a much smaller space then some of its "competing" galleries along the Martin St. strip, but it won't leave you disappointed. I never know what to expect when walking in there, whether they're show casing a new show invention, re-useable water bottles, the latest in sustainable jewelry or their awesome 3-D printer, DesignBox gives a new twist to your art expectations. I always love hitting up this gallery during FirstFriday, they also usually offer wine and occasionally even beer (although it's gone quickly, so arrive early in the evening if you're looking for a glass!) DesignBox fulfills anyone's designer/inventor artist search.

The space is more open, and a little bit larger. You can still walk around and meet the artists. When West Martin is blocked off for First Friday's, it makes for a pretty cool spot to hang out. Inside Designbox, you'll find a lot of work by local creatives. Paul Friedrich's nerdy illustrations are always fun to look at. I also really like Michelle Lyon's R-rated stuffed cats. If you go to the store every month, not much will change around. They will always have a rotating main exhibit, but the merchandise will look similar. Still, I enjoy stopping by every month or two. I always find myself buying a gift for someone here.
