I test drove a minivan at M&M Motors. I expressed concern about the van's front end. The front end had a bad shaking, which the salesman said he could tell was the front tires. He said the tires might have a problem like bad belts in the tire, or maybe just a needed tire alignment/balance. He said he would take it in to a local repair shop or if I purchased the van, he would arrange to pay when the repair shop was able to get the van in for me. Turns out while I was at the bank checking on a loan, he had the tires balanced and presented me the "paid" bill proclaiming "we got off lucky". That left me with the impression that the repair shop had found the tires to be the problem, as the salesman had suspected. Two days after buying the van, a clicking sound was noticed by me when the steering wheel was turned left or right. I took it back to the same repair shop the salesman had used. They found a lot more wrong with the vehicle, most of which really was not in need of immediate repair. I had everything they recommended fixed, including what was "really" wrong with the front end. The bill just for the front end alone has now reached just over $1,100, out of a total repair bill that reached $2,500. I could not get the salesman to help out with the cost of the front end repairs that I had completed, even though his having the tires balanced had left me with the impression that the repair shop had found the problem with the van's front end and that it was the tires. He did pay, in full, around $157 for one repair to the front end problem, which I had not had fixed at that point in time. However, I will have a complete inspection done next time, as I was wrong in thinking that M&M Motors makes sure that what they sell is road worthy. This may have been a rare exception to what they normally sell, but I am still stunned with the salesman's assumption that the tire balance was the problem with the front end, and that it had fixed the problem, when that was not true. In my opinion they should have split the $1,100 cost with me 50/50 at the very least, as I feel that I was misled as to the cause and the repair of the problem, intentionally or not. read more
