It is also close enough to Munich, at about 80-90 min by car, to visit as a day trip. The Leutascher Fischerei is set on a pristine lake surround by the Tyrollean Alps. It's stocked to the rim with several varieties of hungry trout. There are plenty of parking and spots to fish, even on the busiest days. Modern facilities, including a shop, a bar/cafe and a fish-cleaning room. Many families bring a picnic lunch. Fish whatever method you prefer, from fly to bait & bobber. They also sell/rent bait & gear. Fees at the Fischerei are reasonable and unlike in Germany, in Austria no government-issued license is required to fish on a private farm. There are a handful of cafes in the village and a small tourist office. We went out on the lake in a row boat and its a gorgeous big lake surrounded by spectacular mountains. I wish I had a fishing license as this is a place I could spend an entire weekend casting the line and catching nothing :-)) Will definitely return here as its a really nice area and not as busy as some of the other lakes nearby. There are also lots of walks in this area and in other towns close by.

Moon Lake! This is one of the largest privately owned lakes…read morein all of Austria! This is such a beautiful place - an alpine lake out in the middle of the Alps. I didn't go in, but the water looks cold. Since it's owned privately, Nicolette Wächter owns it, she decided that it shall be open to the public, but off limits to people with motorized vessels. So this makes it a quiet mountain lake, where you gotta go slowly. I'm sure all the fish appreciate the quiet too! There's some excellent views of and around this lake. It makes me wanna yodel. There's some sort of legend behind this lake that involves people wading out in to the lake on horseback and almost drowning if it weren't for the moon. So since it's also somewhat shaped like a crescent moon, they named it Moon Lake. I don't think Moon River flows into Moon Lake. According to Wikipedia, this lake is also mentioned in a James Bond novel!

Ich liebe Deutschland!…read more I was born in Germany and recently went back for the first time. On the way back from Berchtesgaden, Dad stopped by Lake Chiemsee so I could see where he and my mom spent some great summers, and also to see King Ludwig II's castle. The castle is incredible, even though it was never finished. Pictures aren't allowed inside, so I have none to share. We had a great time and even enjoyed a quick meal from the cafe just before our tour. The only thing I didn't like was the infrequency of the boats from the island, where the castle is, back to the mainland, where your car is. We waited a long time for the next boat. Other than that, it was fantastic! Definitely worth the trip.
