LYONS, Ohio--Populations 562, according to the 2010 census. Down one from when I moved to Phx.
Back when I was a wee bacon bit, we thought Lyons was Ohio's version of the TV show "Eerie, Indiana". We had Elvis operating the local pizza joint, that burnt down and is now the location of a gas station. We also had a guy who looked like Jesus pulling a wagon outside town on US 20. It was awesome!
As an adult, I can appreciate the quirkiness of this quaint little village. Like when the blinking caution light was upgraded to a stop light. And when the water tower froze over one winter and school was cancelled (super fun day!). There was also the sadness of returning to find my former elementary school had been razed after sitting vacant for some time. (Whatever happened to Joey Lako's memorial tree?)
While I can't say I'd move back to Lyons or anywhere else in NWOh, I must say it truly is a terrific place to grown up. I'm living proof. [That doesn't sound like such a great endorsement, now that I've typed it.] read more
