What a great find not far from the Mississippi and Louisiana border. Lynyrd Skynyrd was a band that helped propel southern rock into the national spotlight and while they were not here for very long until tragedy struck, they are still remembered today. I am not sure if this was the exact location of the plane crash that claimed several of the band members lives, but it is a touching tribute to this band. read more

I have loved this band from the beginning and always wanted to know where they crashed so on the way to New Orleans I decided to stop! Whoever took care of this grave did an Excellent job of displaying and telling about the band history and you can feel the chill in the air of where they crashed! According to someone who was there you can not see the plane crash anymore due to people taking things out of the plane but you can feel the Spirits and Music in the air! I was driving Northbound on I-55 after crossing from Louisiana into Mississippi and saw a sign for the Lynyrd Skynyrd Memorial about Exit 8 or so, and I was intrigued. Why is there a memorial for this great 1970's rock and roll band here? Well, because this is where the crash happened that killed members of the band. Once I got to the end of the exit ramp, there was a sign pointing west and 8 miles. The first couple of miles were smooth, but the last mile or so, the road is bumpy. There are no other attractions off this exit, you have to look for this. Go forward down this road for about 7.5 miles, make a turn south at the sign and drive another .5 of a mile. This is truly an amazing spot. I am so very glad I decided to come and see this. Whoever created this honestly cares about the group and the music. This is out freaking standing. Seriously.
