The Brighton Source is a great free publication that you will find in any self respecting pub or…read morecafe (unless they have run out). Primarily, it is essential coffee table material if you want to stay in touch with a lot of the club and music events taking place in the city during a month. They also have a number of features on local bands and Brightonian artists etc. It's great for Brighton newbies, who can quickly get accustomed to whats in and out in the city. They also have monthly reviews of eateries throughout the city and there area mass of listings for a lot of businesses also. It certainly maintains the spirit of Brighton within it's pages and the editorial team keep it fresh and interesting. Hurrah!

Source is one of the free monthly magazine that acts as a guide to Brighton, they'll be scattered…read morearound various pubs and shops. Letting you know what bands are playing, what club nights are on, music release and much more. You may even find yourself in Source if you happened to find yourself looking particularly cool one day and they snap you or their street style section. And any bands sitting on demos, Source will happily receive. It's written by people living and loving the city. Previews, reviews, interviews and you. Plus it's free!

Half the magazine is dedicated to property - with both rental and sales. Of course, most of the rental places will almost certainly have gone by the time you ring up the agent, but at least it's a good way to get a flavour of what's available. The other half is lifestyle and entertainments, with a useful TV guide in the centre, and articles on various aspects of Brighton life, including reviews and regular columnists. It's normally available at Brighton Station and outside various newsagents and estate agents - it's hardly groundbreaking journalism, but it's a good place to get a feel for the city if you're new here, or check listings if you're not.

The shop itself is tiny, one of those box-room newsagents crammed to breaking point of daily essentials. The little man who runs it is very friendly, until you try to pay on your card when there isn't enough on it. He also told me I didn't need to buy butter one evening on the way back from the gym because I was fat enough. I was not amused. I did have my massive bulky parker on though, and he was very apologetic when he saw the red in my eyes. Curiously, he's been overly friendly ever since!

It stocks the usual newspapers, magazines, basic grocery items, confectionery and tobacco. The windows are obscured using bright blue decals which means that it often looks closed when in fact it's still open. Friendly staff.
