It has beautiful wall sculpture. Also the end of wall is half circle. This church was not damaged during world war. As a result, it still keep it original stain glass windows. The color reflecting the sunlight is nice. At night time, the church is one of most important Chartres Light Celebration. The entire front and side of church is lid up. The center of the church has a circle symbol of Labyrinth. It is a symbol long winding path towards salvation.

La Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres (Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres) resides in the town of Chartres, the heart of the Beauce region, which enlists in UNESCO World Heritage List. Here a shroud veil said to be worn by the Virgin Mary. The famous labyrinth is visibly seen in the main hall. The monumental screen around the choir is plastered with statutes, which I found rather frightening for its dark Gothic architecture. High cathedral arch ceilings, and abbey stone arch doorways. Victor Hugo would be cultivate the gothic architecture experience. Upon departure from Chartres, in a past life, my former love and I leave not with only memories of what physically seen but the feeling of being in a place of great spirituality and healing. Visitors flock to La Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres for a pilgrimage at free admission. It was here where my frustration from life's daily deal of bedlam are released and highly recommend a visit.

We decided to go see Vaux Le Vicomte at night lit by candles and see Chartres by day. What a fabulous idea! Driving up to Chartre, the site of the church in the distance is breath taking and exciting. We actually stopped at a panoramic view across from the church in order to take pictures (keep an eye out for the signs and see my pic). We arrived in Chartre at around 3 pm and parked on Boulevard du Maréchal Foch which is below the old city (pay parking underneath trees and besides a b -there are pay stations every several meters). We walked over the bridge (Pont Bouju) into one of the most beautiful villages I have seen in Europe. And of course we arrived very hungry. So as we went uphill towards the church, we kept an eye out for a restaurant. There was nothing open or if they were open the kitchen was closed. That is until we reached the church square and found that all the restaurants there were open and serving. Check out my review for Café Serpente. They were setting up for a music festival and finishing a stage. The church itself is an amazing work of art. From the flying buttresses, gargoyles, and stone work on the exterior to the labyrinth, the stained glass windows, and Catholic iconography you can spend hours taking it all in and still only see a fraction of its beauty. You might consider getting a tour guide from next to the church to explain more of important points. Also, take some time to walk around the grounds of the church where you will find the Fine Arts museum and a spectacular view of the surrounding area including the panoramic view of the church where I took the picture. Walking through this castle is certainly an experience! When we were there, they had an exhibit…read morefrom the "monuments men" movie which was very interesting in the main floor rooms. Then we decided to go up to the top to see the view from the Keep (watchtower). It starts with a simple set of stairs, and then it gets much more challenging. The steps themselves are uneven, the risers aren't uniform so some steps are higher than others, and the steps just keep on coming. About halfway up, you get to the dovecote, where they would keep their carrier pigeons, which was really cool to see. It also gave you a great break from the steps. But the steps continue and get steeper and more challenging. I made it about 2/3 the way up, but my adult children made it all the rest of the way up and said the view from the very top was spectacular, but the view from the level I stopped at was pretty darn good too! I probably could've made the rest of the flights, but I was also getting concerned about getting back down due to the steepness of the steps and the shortage of good handrails. Definitely a climb you need to do with good footwear! We enjoyed the stop, and got great views of the valley, and would recommend it to others.

Visiting the Château de Versailles was truly a dream come true. The architecture is absolutely…read morestunning--every detail, from the grand halls to the intricate ceilings, is a testament to the opulence of the French monarchy. The grounds are just as impressive: beautifully kept gardens, sparkling fountains, and perfectly restored landscapes that make you feel like you've stepped back in time. As someone who loves history, I was in heaven. The palace is filled with artifacts from the Sun King himself, Louis XIV, and the stories about his many mistresses add an extra layer of intrigue. I could have spent hours just wandering the Hall of Mirrors and imagining the lavish parties that once took place there. Marie Antoinette's area, with its charming hamlet and gorgeous gardens, was a highlight for me--so peaceful and picturesque. We spent an entire day exploring and still barely scratched the surface. There's just so much to see and experience! I also have to mention the restaurants on the grounds. The food was surprisingly good--fresh, flavorful, and honestly better than most of what I get back home in America. If you love history, art, or just want to be wowed by breathtaking beauty, Versailles is an absolute must-see. I loved every minute and can't wait to go back!

Of everything we did in Paris, this was top five for sure. I booked tickets in advance and we took…read morethe RER C train right to the Versailles station. From there it is a 7 or 10 minute walk to the entrance. You do need to plan for several hours if not the majority of a day to explore the chateau and the gardens. Also, it is very, very crowded, so expect to be shuffled along in a current of people, especially in popular areas like the Hall of Mirrors. We had kids with us that were not impressed by the gilded treasures, so we spent probably more time in the gardens than the palace. Let me tell you - the expanse of these gardens is impressive. At one point it looked like they go on for eternity. Just take your time strolling through and exploring all of the different little alcoves. We did do a boat ride in the Grand Canal lake and enjoyed some snacks and drinks in one of the cafes tucked into one of the gardens. One thing we did not know, is that if you want to book a ride on the train, you will have to do that when you are still at the chateau and they do sell out. You can also rent a golf cart in the same way. Overall I greatly enjoyed all the splendor and grandeur of this magical place. Worth the time and the travel.
