Small restaurant but the decor is inviting and immersive! Order at the counter, the service is super friendly. I got 3 tacos, all with different meats, I found the carne asada to be the best. Rice & beans came with the tacos and I found the portion to be filling. Food came out pretty quick! I sat and ate in the restaurant, there's limited seating. But there are some tables outside too. I also saw many people come in for mobile order pick ups. I'd return here! Good place grab tacos and Mexican food in general. Customer service was exceptional even during the heart of dinner time. Al pastor taco- very tasty Shrimp taco- grilled cheese with shrimp Octopus taco- perfectly cooked octopus Shrimp cerviche tostada - also good Everything was very good! They also give you 4 bottles of different sauces too! What a treat!!! I imagine parking can be challenging at times but we did not have any issue finding parking. read more

Love love love. If I could give these tacos 6 stars, I would. My boyfriend and I come here all the time, and they never miss. The flavor is always on point, and I appreciate that they don't overdo the spice, it's balanced perfectly. The portions are generous, so you actually leave full. It's one of those places where you know your order is going to hit every time. I could get full with two tacos but they're so yummy I have to eat three! Service is fast, even when it's busy. It is a smaller spot, but we've almost always been able to find somewhere to sit. read more

Lupe's seems more like a takeout spot with only about 4 tables inside, but their restaurant next door has the same menu with more tables and a bar. We ended up there because we wanted to sit down and eat, and they had a bunch of tables open. We tried their fish burrito, tacos and a bowl. I thought everything was ok! Lupe's really impressed me! It's an unassuming setting outside next to a grocery store but their food is so flavorful and authentic with house made tortillas for their tacos! My fault for not coming here as often. I really wanted a quick lunch and I was specifically wanting rolled tacos and popped into Lupe's. I normally get these or fish tacos but today was rolled tacos with chicken. I think three is plenty. It comes with almost a mini salad underneath- fresh lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese. I enjoy the salsa that they serve with it. Counter service is very nice and friendly. Plenty of parking out front. Cool mellow vibes with the TV going. Self serve salsa, bar and soda fountain. Next-door is the full service restaurant which also has the restroom. Overall great experience I'm gonna come back a lot sooner than last time and try some new things. It wouldn't be fair to call this a taco shop. It is definitely a step above that. I loved the menu. It is funky, it is creative, it is interesting. Lots of breakfast burrito options and I would have gladly eaten any of them. There are lots of interesting taco and non-breakfast burrito options. They also apparently have booze, ceviche, quesadillas, and more. I tried the Lupe's burrito (carne asada, chicken, and more) and it was good. The bacon in it added another dimension of flavor. The guacamole was, unfortunately, all slopped in at the bottom. Overall, it was a good, but not a great, burrito. It mostly tasted like a decent carne asada burrito with bacon. I probably should have gone for a pastor burrito like many other reviews have recommended. The shrimp burrito was very good and had a lot of flavor. It was absolutely stuffed with juicy shrimp. I loved this one. The tacos are things of beautiful. We tried a shrimp quesotaco and a beer battered fish taco. The shrimp taco was the better of the two. Don't miss the salsa bar. The salsa with the little sign that says "very hot" isn't joking. The nuclear green cilantro salsa is excellent and very flavorful. The chipotle one was nice, too. I give this place a 4.5 but, as usual, I round up. It is a bit expensive but this is Dana Point and, look, the economy sucks right now and prices are high everywhere. The very interesting menu and freshly-cooked food will bring me back. read more

We tried the Cali burrito and the Lupe's in Cali burritos for lunch. They were both massive. Could not come close to finishing it on my own. They were both steak and shrimp burritos, shrimp was large and tasty. The steak was pretty dry. The fries in the Cali burrito were nice and crispy. I liked adding the creamy sauce they had at the bar and their red salsa to the burrito. It definitely needed it, it was a little plain without it. There is very little seating, next door is the same restaurant but is a sit down restaurant with a bar. You can order food or drinks at either, they have a window they pass food and drinks through. The specialty margarita was raspberry flavored and a little too sweet for my taste. I wouldn't get it again. We liked the paleta's. The blue vanilla was really good. read more

4.5 for this place. They have two storefronts, one that seems to be more takeout and self service and one beside that is full service. We were traveling through the area and saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We weren't disappointed. We had an app of taquittos which were good. It came with some salsa and guacamole to dip in. I ordered a buritto that had steak and shrimp in it. It was very good. It came with a side of chips. Two others had California burritos and seemed to enjoy them. They brought us over 4 bottles of sauce to use as well. There was a red chili, a tomatillo, a creamy cilantro and a smoked chipotle sauce. Unfortunately the menu has changed up a bit and not for the better. Tried their crispy beef tacos and all I got at the very bottom was some hot sauce and no beef. Sure the taco was filled to the brim with lots of lettuce. And I mean a lot of lettuce and some cheese on top of course. I'm not sure what happened here but I would definitely not recommend the crispy beef tacos u less u want a lettuce taco topped with a sprinkle of cheese. I also tried the wings, and just ok. Small and tough. Nothing tender and tasty about these bad boys. Oh well. This place isn't cheap either, but I would definitely search out somewhere else than here. They seem to skimp on most stuff and charge a hefty tariff. read more

Location was divided into 2. But the service by Nick was amazing! I started with one server, but his family showed up and I didn't see him again. Nick came over and instantly knew I needed water and noticed I wasn't happy with a dish. But waited patiently until someone came by. He quickly took care of it and offered great alternatives! Refills and I even ordered a few more items with him. I appreciate all the work your teams brings! Great variety of salsas and I truly enjoyed the flavors! Food tasted homemade and I loved it. Lupe's mexican Eatery is one of the best and real mexican food in OC...The quality of food is very satisfying and the customer service was great...Eventhough, they just bring the food in your table and before you seat you should have your utensils ready because no one will bring to your table...We didnt know it...The ceviche was the yummiest and i cant say enough about the delicious shrimp cocktail and shrimp tacos....It must try ones!!!!!!! The ambiance was local and cozy..There was dining area...Small one and it seems they have mostly take out one. They were busy...And their guac is so delicious!!!!! First time visiting LaBarra/Lupe's Mexican Eatery & saw Lupe's sign so I entered not knowing it was the To Go area of Lupe's. I felt horrible for keeping the other patrons patiently waiting while I was deciding what to order. I didn't see that Lupe's Mexican Eatery on the left was a ToGo line where people know what they want. I hope they make it clearer so that locals don't get frustrated w.a new customer. Eventually the cashier asked if I want to dine in. He was very professional & kind & then suggested I enjoy my sit down meal next door at LaBarra. This cashier had the courtesy to not give attitude but was sincerely patient with me as a 1st time patron. Kudos to the staff at La Barra/Lupe's. Orders: Birria Burrito- a good sized burrito initially sparse on the 1st bite, but as you take a few more bites the deliciously marinated meat magically appears. 2 Taco's: Beer Battered Fish had a wonderfully flaky batter with a generous amount of sour cream & salsa. I love a wet taco, so La Barra satisfied intact craving. Service was superb with both waitress & waiter who enjoy what they do to make customers feel welcomed. This is a place I would definitely come back to for their fresh & flavorful burrito's. read more

I came in on a Sunday evening and the place was packed. I ordered a veggie supreme burrito and it came out pretty quickly considering how busy it was. The place was a little messy and the salsa bar was kinda ravaged. I had to eat the burrito in the parking lot because there was nowhere to sit. The burrito was pretty large and tasty. If you're looking for fantastic Mexican food look no further. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was popping. I sat at one of their high table tops and was greeted immediately by our server. I got the steak burrito and it's massive. If you come here, definitely get one of their burritos I tried a bite of the al pastor and it was delish. Lupes in Aliso Viejo is by far the BEST Mexican food I have ever had in our area. Their taco's are bomb...love the home made tortillas & the taste of the chicken & carne asada...the cilantro sauce in the salsa bar is the cherry on top. There was an open booth but I instead of allowing people to sit, an employee used it as a work station. instead of allowing people to sit down and enjoy their food, one of the employees continues to use a booth as a work station. Food is great. One of my favorite spots to eat burritos. Love the California burrito and Stoner fries. I don't come here as much though because the prices are astronomical. $16 for a burrito is pretty insane for Southern California. And $25 for Stoner Fries (carne asada fries with a couple pieces of shrimp)? Seriously? Would be 5/5 stars if it wasn't for the prices. Guarantee you won't find a more expensive Mexican restaurant anywhere around here. Look at old yelp menu photos, the prices are 50-70% higher in just 5 years. read more

Simple tacos and tacos with all the toppings. Even the fries. Service is always friendly, beer is always flowin'. Hey Lupes, Remember when you actually had the salsa bar? I'm sitting here right now with a burrito from The Taco Stand in Newport Beach, looking at their pickled onions, and it honestly made me stop and think about how far your restaurant has drifted from what once made it great. For years, I was a loyal customer. I paid good, hard-earned money because you offered something different--quality food, a real salsa bar, and an experience that felt worth it. Taking away the salsa bar wasn't just a small change; it removed one of the main reasons people kept coming back. On top of that, prices went up, and the value went down. The Taco Stand offers everything you used to--and more--at a significantly better price. I'm looking at their menu right now: a shrimp and steak burrito for $11.89. The food is better, the prices are more reasonable, and most importantly, they don't punish loyal customers by stripping away what made the place special just to protect profit margins. I haven't been back to your restaurant in over a year because of these changes, and I can confidently say I won't be returning. It's disappointing, because you had something great. Unfortunately, a greedy approach to customer service--or lack thereof--pushed me to find a superior alternative. Thank you for the years of good meals. Lupe's is definitely a more premium burrito location in Dana Point. The burritos are a bit on the pricey side but if you sit in the service area they're usually real quick over there. I'd recommend the California burrito and making sure you get some of the salsa on the side. Add it to your rotation of quick Mexican spots! Cheers! read more

Next time, we might ask to sit outside so our young boys can watch the cars drive by. We learned that the kitchen is nut free (always double check as this could change), which was amazing since our son has a severe nut allergy. He was so excited to learn this as he can be limited at other places due to cross contamination or the wrong oils. Then when the food came out and it was delicious - it sealed the deal. It is now in the top of our list of places to go. The kids cheeseburger is good size and not a smaller version as some places do. The chicken tenders were panko crusted which was so crunchy. My husband and I shared the smoked carrot and chicken tacos and we enjoyed them both. The beer was also very good with my husband and I each trying a different kind - an IPA and a Pale Ale. We are so glad we finally stopped in and so should you!

I recently had a disappointing experience at Lupe's restaurant that I feel compelled to share. After checking their hours online, which indicated they closed at 8 PM on Sunday, I decided to call and confirm. A man answered and assured me they were open until 10:30 PM, which was a relief. I inquired about placing a delivery order, but he informed me they could no longer offer delivery services. When I asked if there were any third-party solutions available, he suggested trying Grubhub. However, when I attempted to order through Grubhub, I encountered issues that left me unable to place an order. I called back to clarify the hours since I couldn't order online and was prepared to pick up my food. Unfortunately, when I called at 9:59 PM, a woman answered with noticeable attitude. I requested to place a pick-up order, only to be met with a curt response that they were closed. When I reminded her that an employee had previously informed me they were open until 10:30 PM, she dismissively insisted they were closed. This interaction left me feeling disrespected, misled, and undervalued as a customer. It's clear that customer service is not a priority for Lupe's restaurant. We started going to Lupe's, very soon after they opened. Back when they opened, they would have received 4 to 4 1/2 stars. Recently they have become their own worst enemy. The success and lines out the door have caused Lupe's to drop the quality of product (food) to 3 to 2 1/2 stars. The fish is HORRIBLE...it tastes and looks like a very cheap version of FISH STICKS that you get at Albertsons. The burritos have started to shrink in size and the amount of meat that is put inside of the burrito is also decreasing. They went from a very large (overstuffed) burrito, to a medium to small. We used to stop by this place 2 to 3 times a month. It is now rare that we have returned and hope that Lupe's improves or we will not be back. There are SOOOO many choices for Mexican food in the area, hope they realize that growing is not more important than returning customers. Although the quality of the meal varies from place to location, the Aliso location unquestionably offers the greatest food. The smoked tuna tortilla and the carne aside burrito are particular favorites of ours. You should not get the shrimp burrito since it was very greasy. Despite the fact that there aren't many other alternatives on the menu, the service is always friendly, and the meal is served in a timely manner. The service received five stars. The atmosphere is pleasant; it is noisy, but it is always clean. There are a lot of problems with buying online, so I would suggest phoning in instead. When we place an order for refried beans online, we automatically get black beans. The burritos at the Dana Point location are more compact than the ones at the Aliso location, and the cilantro crema that is available at the salsa bar in Aliso is really delectable. I love this place! The quesadillas are yummy and the tacos are delicious!! The only thing I wish is if they can put more seats for people going to eat their tacos! When we saw they were "expanding" it my husband and I were so excited. After they did open that side section, we bought some tacos and quesadillas and my husband wanted to watch the soccer game they had on there, as soon as we sat down the guy, I'm guessing he's the manager, comes over and tells us we can't sit there that it's only for customers. My husband tells him that we had just bought the tacos from next door but he said it didn't matter as they were a different "side to the restaurant" and they serve different foods. In the end he let us stay there but asked us not to sit in that side unless we order from that restaurant side. So even though they have the same kitchen, you still can't sit there. Great food, love their menu, they have a unique menu to choose from, everything seems to be healthy, or at least healthier than say Del Taco lol. The bill can get pretty pricey pretty quick, I love their soda machine which carries more of a craft soda, then Coke or Pepsi. Lines are a bit long, and hard to go there during peak hours, I actually avoid the place during dinnertime. Best to place your order online. They opened a sit down restaurant next door, wish they had just expanded into that space instead of keeping the take out one so small. Great food though! read more

I had an amazing experience at Lupe's at Dana! The food quality was exceptional, with every dish bursting with flavor and made to perfection. The service was top-notch - the staff was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our visit special. The drinks were delicious, and the ambiance made the entire evening enjoyable. Great spot!! Honestly the menu was a little hard to follow, but once we found what we were looking for we were good to go. The tacos were fantastic, and the guacamole and salsa were SO good! I personally really liked the shrimp taco. My kids were happy with their quesadillas and the French fries were extra addicting. My daughter has celiac and was disappointed that they couldn't make a quesadilla on a corn tortilla (which seems easy enough) but other than that, every thing was great. We will definitely be back next time we are in Laguna. read more

Worst place I've ever been to. If anybody is comparing this to Pedro's tacos or Baja fish tacos then they are just wrong to be comparing it. If anybody really wants to go here they must be really stupid. I literally contracted AIDS and cancer while eating here. A new option in Dana Point. I heard about Lupe's from a co-worker. I stopped by on my way into work. I tried their chorizo breakfast burrito. It was huge and delicious, I just wish the chorizo was more spicy. Their prices are very reasonable and I can't wait to go back and try their tacos. The staff was very friendly and fast. read more

This is one of those gems of a community. Lupe's is a great place to get food as it has a great atmosphere, a new bar area, and the food is wonderful. It's your typical mexican fusion type of food and its the best of its kind that you will find in South Orange County. My favorite is their Lupe's fries, best carne asada frie around. read more
