This town is famous as the home of Gasparo da Salò, the inventor of the modern violin. The town is…read morepleasant and offered much in the way of culinary exploration. It was our bad luck that we stumbled upon this place. The food was OK, but pricey they slapped on a 13% service charge.
My wife and I ordered a prawn salad, which was the most expensive salad on the menu, at Eur11. When it arrived, there were no prawns. I spoke to the waitress in Italian, to tell her, but she pretended she could not understand me.
The service was a sort of heaven and hell experience. The blond waitress who first served us was cheerful and helpful. Everything one expected from a waitress. The dark haired waitress who then took our order had a face that looked like she was sucking on a lemon and belonged in a 1930s horror film. She did not know how to smile and was clearly unhappy in her job. She was the one who pretended she could not understand me. However, she did when I complained about the 13% service charge and told her that we would not be leaving any cash tip.
The only positive thing I can say, apart form the helpful blond waitress, was that there was free wi-fi. That is why I gave it one star. As far as I am concerned, this restaurant made the trip to Salo memorable for all the wrong reasons. We shall never go back there to eat and I seriously do not recommend anyone wastes their money at this expensive and inhospitable place. It makes you wonder why they are in business at all.
