On a breezy Covid summer evening, my neighbors and I checked out the scene at Luna Bar, which sits on the 17th floor of the AC Hotel by Marriott adjacent to the Costanera building. We all agreed that while the views are nice and the customer service top-notch, we aren't in a rush to return since we get a better overall experience closer to us at the top of the W without needing reservations, which are required at LB.
When we arrived at 7, there was already a bit of a crowd. Unfortunately, the music is too loud and the speakers are too close to the tables. We opted to sit farther from the speaker, but it was still pretty loud where we sat. While this is fine for creating ambiance in normal times, it's not ideal during Covid since it necessitates unmasked people getting uncomfortably close to each other to hear and be heard. The music that night was entirely in English. As we were leaving, they even played NKOTB, "The Right Stuff." Ha!
To LB's credit, the drinks are served with edible straws that vary in flavor depending on your drink. One of us ordered a drink that arrived in a tiki mug with a lemon-flavored straw, another had a sort of lime-rum daiquiri that came with a lime-flavored straw, and I started with a ginger-mint lemonade that arrived with a lime-flavored straw, too. Notably, these have to be used quickly because they go limp and mushy after some time, especially in acidic lemonade. I don't recommend eating them; they sort of taste like those childhood candy necklaces.
For appetizers, we ordered various dishes including salmon, tuna, roast beef, mushrooms and cheese, small charcuterie, and tomato soup. We also started with a bottle of brut and the mix of champagne glasses were (mostly) nice and modern. Initially, we received the wrong wine order, but we chalked that up to growing pains.
For mains, we ordered the chicken risotto, club sandwich, burger, salmon with veggies, and merluza (hake). The risotto, club, and salmon were the only dishes that received a thumbs-up from our group.
A few months later, I visited again with a much larger office group. It was a successful night and we kept the wait staff very busy with about four or five large tables. They were very accommodating as our group expanded, then shrunk to just a couple of tables before the end of the night. Only later we would learn that one of our group members was not allowed to join us on the roof because he was there on business but did not have a Mobility Pass; as a result, was told by the doorman that he could not come in--to an outdoor bar-restaurant. Hmm.
I do recommend checking out this spacious rooftop bar, preferably before sunset on a clear day so you can take full advantage of the views. read more
