Lummelundagrottan (Lummelunda Cave) is one of the longest caves in Sweden. We're a fan of touring caves when we travel, so we drove out (about 15-20 minutes from Visby) to Lummelundagrotten to tour the cave. The tour is in Swedish, but they offered audio sets in some other languages (including English), so we were covered! The tour guide also pointed some things out to us that weren't included in the audio guide, which was really nice of her (we were the only non-Swedish speakers on the tour). The cave has an interesting history (it was discovered by three teenage boys in the 1940-50s), but the tour wasn't a highlight of our time in Visby. We've been on some cave tours that include some really awesome caverns and chambers (Carlsbad, Mammoth, Grotta Gigante), so the tour was a little underwhelming (smaller spaces, not as long of a tour, no chambers that made my jaw drop). The history of its exploration was definitely the most interesting thing about the cave for us! But the grounds of the cave were a surprise - really beautiful. I highly recommend taking a walk around the grounds before you leave the cave property. read more
