This is really two pool facilities in one…read more
Outdoors there is the Fribbe pool, which is a canalized part of one of the many streams that run through Augsburg. The water is cold (they told me 18 C), but it's fun to float down in the relatively strong current and then try to swim back up (basically making for stationary swimming, unless you are a very strong swimmer). There are two other sections to the canal, where the water isn't moving much and seems to be warmer (I didn't really go in those parts).
Indoors there is the Spickelbad pool, which is a nice, clean 25 m pool. It wasn't very crowded the couple times I went. The temperature is warm but not super warm (maybe 80 F). The life guards were super friendly, saying hello and goodbye as I came and went.
Apparently, most of the year there are two different entry fees for the two pools, even though they connect and really are one facility. When I was there in the summer, entrance to one pool got you into both, during the week (not on the weekends). That was nice because you could swim in the river until you were too cold and then go in the indoor pool. Perhaps the rest of the year there is still some deal that would let you do this. If they just close and lock the door from the indoor pool to the outdoor area and river, that would be too bad.
