I was strolling down Victoria Street looking for a place to eat when I stepped in out of the rain into this pleasant little establishment. It was empty when I visited, with soft pop music playing. I was pleasantly greeted at the door and instructed to seat myself. Lucano has several craft beers on tap from the Orkney brewery, which makes some damn fine brews! They also have wine available as well. For my main, I went with their calzone. It was brought to my table in under ten minutes. The first thing that struck me was how large it was! It could have probably fed two people, and I struggled finishing it. All of the ingredients tasted really fresh. The basil tasted like it had just been pulled off the plant, and the crushed tomatoes freshly picked. It was absolutely delicious! If I were staying in Orkney longer I would definitely be a returning customer! This was easily the best meal I've had since I've been on the island.

This place was full when we walked by 5:40pm and we reserved a table at 7pm. At 7pm on a Monday night the place was full. Ordered the special Ossobuco Lombardo and regular linguine ai frutti di mare off the menu with a glass of house montepulciano and a glass of Pinot Grigio Blush. The ossobuco was delicious and came with a bed of sautéed spinach and potato wedges. The seafood linguine was cooked al dente but did not come with enough seafood in my opinion. I ordered a veggie side and the sautéed spinach was too salty. Overall this is a nice break from a week of Scottish food!

We stopped in here for lunch on a cruise visit to Kirkwall. Tried the cheesy garlic bread and it was delicious. I had the spaghetti bolognese which was very good. My husband had a cheese pizza which was ok. The kid who was our server was really forgetful and not really on top of his game. Either he was having a rough day or this just isn't the job for him. Restaurant is fairly small. Prices were a bit steep in my opinion. Overall the food was decent. read more

I was delighted to find authentic Italian cuisine in Orkney! The food is delicious, fresh, and the portions are generous. Che buono! The staff is warm and welcoming and the prices are reasonable. This is the second time I have been to this restaurant and it is just as incredible as I remember from my last visit to Orkney. I highly recommend Lucano! read more

Disappointing wait between order being taken and delivered to table. Food quality was disappointing. Maybe , menu choice is too large for kitchen to manage. Overpriced and possibly reflects a business targeting for tourist trade. Not inclined to revisit. Lucano was my first choice for my first evening in Kirkwall, so doubly disappointing. read more

The house Merlot satisfies, the olives and carpaccio were a nice starter (mix them up), and the Cod Bake was terrific. The atmosphere is nicely casual. I'm not displeased at all that the "fancy" places were all booked up. That'll do for sure! read more
Stopped by for lunch a few weeks ago and it was incredible!! We had the veggie pizza and pesto chicken pizza, both were delicious. There is a lunch special with an entree and drink for only 10 pounds, it is definitely worth it! The waiter was extremely patient, accommodating, and kind. The food was made quickly, we couldn't have asked for any better!! read more

Excellent find. Thank you Yelp for the heads up. With no reservations on a Friday night, the proprietor asked if we could could come back in 45 min and asked us for a phone number so he could call sooner if a table opened up. We popped back in 30 min later and we had our table waiting. Excellent mussels, a real green salad with lots of lettuce and we ordered a Vesuvius (I think) pizza which was excellent (thin crust that was done perfectly). A good bottle of wine as recommended by the owner rounded out the meal. No room for dessert but they sure looked great. The dinner and service completed a great day in Kirkwall and the Orkneys. And yes, we would recommend highly. read more

Recommended by the owner of the B&b we're staying at and it was a great choice. Great food, good service in an unpretentious restaurant.

Friendly Italian restaurant serving home-made pasta, pizza and various house specials. When I was there, these included roast lamb and a delicious tagliatelli with smoked salmon and scallops. The seafood soup is made with delicte, fresh shellfish and just a touch of pernod. Wonderful! read more
