MARGATE MIDDLE SCHOOL: The worst experience I have ever had as a parent of a new 6th grader. My…read moreson had some amazing teachers in only 4 weeks there. However Mrs. Spence a Reading teacher shouldn't be allowed to work there or anywhere for that matter. My son has ADHD and a psychological mood disorder which I had explained several times. Initially she had reached out to me because Jay was very distracted in class that day ( week one) . I explained once again that we were working on it and to please excuse him. My son returned to school that Monday and apologized for the first impression that he had given her and requested a clean slate . An 11 year old child coming to you humbly asking for forgiveness and to please start over and it's the 2nd week of school ( adults barely admit their wrong doings). Instead of talking about the situation and how they can move forward she looked away and told him to get in line. She repeatedly called my son a chatterbox , a parrot, and didn't call him by name she called him boy. My son came to me stating that she says ," shut your mouth boy" and " shut up boy" to him. An incident had taken place where he was incredibly overwhelmed in his class and asked to please take a little time out . This is apart of his 504 plan which all of his educators have a copy of. The educator repeatedly said no. He sent me a text saying that he was crying because she was antagonizing him and he needed to please get out of there. My son had told me about this incident and it was the icing on the cake and ultimately my reason for pulling him out of school not even a full month there. On this day Mrs. Spence moved my sons seat without him knowing so he was sitting in another child's seat. Instead of explaining that he'd been reassigned she said , " get up boy". He was in the process of settling down into his new seat and she came over to him and said "You're a sick child" this was said to his face in front of his peers because he didn't have his materials for the lesson on his desk fast enough. THIS IS BULLYING BY A TEACHER! you are using him being a little different as public display ! She saw he was texting me because she refused to let him step out to speak with a guidance counselor and she took his phone. I completely understand policy and for the phone part I was not upset at all for that specifically . My son said that she'd sent another student to get him from another class period later in the day so she could return his phone and the girl went into Ms. Diverges class and said that she was told to "get the little spanish boy". The teacher was in complete shock and taken back. She questioned the student and said is that how she asked for him and the student said yes. This is why my son was saying he was sick. This is why he was getting so sad and hated school all of a sudden. It was her! I had asked one of his classmates if Mrs. Spence calls all of the students boy or girl and if she refers to them by their ethnicity/ race. The child said no only Jayden and another little girl in the class. I was completely disgusted by this child's response to my question and deeply saddened because no child should be treated that way. Plus the school has roaches in the hallway, bathrooms and cafeteria. They have some great teachers but boy they need to get rid of the toxic ones. This is such a difficult transition and a lot of the students need some love and guidance. A teacher bullied my son , humiliated him amongst his peers, and racially profiled him and she is still there teaching! This whole system is broken. My son was withdrawn yesterday 9/9/2019 and is now attending a charter school and his first day was a success. Please do whatever you can to get your kids out of there . Thank you to the other teachers that he had who made him feel loved and like he mattered and that you wanted him to be successful in your class. Thank you! #publicschool #browardcounty #bcps #broward #margatemiddle #margatemiddleschool #bullyfreezone #equality #practicekindness #leadbyexample

The classroom itself has been remodeled and fitted with brand new workstations and lab stations. The hands-on experience with switches and routers can't be replicated by online learning or reading. The only thing that really disappoints me, is the "job placement" pretty much went out the window after graduation. I can't fault them too much for that, though, because of COVID. It would have been nice to generate an interview or two out of it, though. I would definitely recommend this school to someone who's just looking to learn a trade and doesn't know about a 4-year school, although, some credits would transfer to Broward schools if desired after graduation.

I liked that in the cold foods, if you show interest, Chef will teach you about food carving. In the bakery, if you let Chef know you want to try "something", he'll make time to do that with you or with the class. It was an overall great experience. The only negative I have is about one of the Chefs, I won't say whom in particular... she told me on a couple occasions that I'd probably do better at the front of the house, I was not fit for the kitchen. Harsh truth? I worked in a commercial kitchen after graduating and loved it. I think she spoke too soon. I now make custom tiered cakes. Guess I exceeded her expectations..

It was a Saturday morning with a chance of showers in the forecast so the first thing I noticed was the distance from the parking to the entrance with absolutely no cover along the way. On entry, I was impressed by the open feeling. It had the typical locker lined lobby and corridors but the lockers (I saw) were all in open spaces so there was no feeling of crowding. I had to imagine a gazillion kids. As I expect all schools are now (not where I attended) all seating was fixed. The auditorium was large but probably not large enough to seat the full student body with each seat having a folding desktop. I'm a small person and it did feel a bit crowded... I'm not sure it would be comfortable for a big kid. The desks in the classrooms seemed to be standard school issue with the metal frame and no chance of adjustment. I felt very confined and again, I would think is might be tight for anyone much larger than my petite frame. The building felt clean and comfortable. I did not use the restroom but did note it was located close the the classrooms we were using. For a public school this seemed ok... and if I had a school-age kid, I could see them here... assuming they have a good program.

!!!!! I cannot…read moreexpress how grateful I am for the incredible experience my son has had at CCA. From the moment he started attending this Christian school, I have been consistently impressed by the genuine care and dedication of the teachers and staff. They go above and beyond to create a nurturing, faith-filled environment that fosters both academic and spiritual growth. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, integrating strong academic principles with biblical teachings that encourage our children to think critically and develop a solid moral foundation. My son has not only excelled academically but has also grown in his understanding of his faith. The engaging lessons and innovative teaching methods have sparked his love for learning, and I can see how much effort the teachers put into making each subject come alive. What truly stands out is the passion of the educators. They are not just teachers; they are mentors and role models who genuinely care about each child's success. Their commitment to helping students reach their full potential is evident in everything they do. They take the time to know each student personally and encourage them to explore their interests and talents. I am so thankful for the positive impact CCA has had on my son's life. I wholeheartedly recommend this school to any parent looking for a nurturing and academically rigorous environment that also emphasizes the importance of faith and character development. Thank you, CCA , for everything you do!
