Recently changed owners, and changed names to Chute Boxe KC, this place drew me in because they…read moreoffered both solid Jiu Jitsu training and a mix of fitness and technical boxing classes. The place is legit. If you train here, you will come away with skills and knowledge that you can use for matches, tournaments, or just to wrestle your kids away from the TV remote. In my quest to continue to improve my own health, I needed a place where I could continue to regain my knowledge in boxing and to increase my knowledge of Jiu Jitsu. I wanted a single roof to work out with back to back classes, and looked all over before finding this place almost by accident. It's a bit of a drive for me, but well worth it on the weeks that I am not traveling out of state. I train in a similar place in New York and before that in Chapel Hill, NC. Before I found Chute Boxe, I simply didn't know of any good cross discipline places to train in the KC area. Chute Boxe is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but it is not your typical Gracie academy. You can do some research into the history of the two. In the short time that I have been training in Jiu Jitsu, I have had the pleasure of training in several different formats. These Chute Boxe classes focus on technique that seriously improves my understanding of what to do when I'm stuck. Each class also goes right into rolling, which is where you will kill those carbs and hopefully solidify your knowledge. The fitness and the technical boxing classes are done with bags. I have not seen any sparing yet, but that is perfectly fine with me. My arms are past dead after every class, which is my goal. I don't want to have gas in the tank when I leave! The kids classes look both fun and like serious work. I have a two year old that will fit that energy nicely, and I can't wait until she is ready to hit the mat! There are fundamentals classes and also Muay Thai classes, but I have not taken those. I assume they are as high quality as the classes later in the evening. I have so far to go before I am in any kind of good shape, and the 2 and a half hours I spend here is exactly what I need to completely remind me of just how far that really is!

Good work outs and a friendly atmosphere. Muay Thai classes come in two flavors: fitness which is…read moremainly bag work and technical which is pads and all the other good stuff. You can do both with the Muay Thai membership. I like that I can pick if I feel like working on technique or just hitting the bags for an hour. Either way you'll get a intense workout. Trainers are great!

I love this place…read more After almost a year of one-on-one personal training (see my previous review), I started going to the MWF morning small group training classes. It's a little more economical, I still get a great workout, and I get to do it with a group of really awesome people! What's not to love?! I love the flexibility that the MWF group classes offer. If I have an 8 am meeting, I workout from 5:30-6:30 instead of the 6:30-7:30 time. There is even an 8:45 am workout that is great if I have a day off and don't want to get up early. The workouts themselves are always different, so I never get bored. I also never know what to expect until Coach Heath writes the sets on the white board. He then shows us proper form for the first set, and then turns us loose. He's there to keep track of the time, make sure we're doing the moves correctly, and answer our questions. The "sets" typically consist of 5-6 exercises, where we do each exercise for 30 seconds until we've gotten through the set three times. Occasionally there will be a set that is at your own pace. There is usually a "finisher" too. I'm not sure where the name comes from, but you are D.O.N.E. when it's over. The prowler is aptly named, because it's difficulty sneaks up on you during those last 5 or so yards. I've also gone to the evening large group training class once or twice. The intervals there are for 60 seconds, which seem like an eternity when you're used to 30 seconds. Muay Thai classes taught by Bryan Carroll are a fun and challenging addition to the classes offered by SlinkFit. There is an additional fee for these classes, but they ROCK and are totally worth it! If you've read this far, you might be like, "Ok, sounds great. but I'm REALLY out of shape. There is no way I could survive one of these classes." I'm not gonna lie. It'll be hard, but all of the exercises can be and will be modified to your fitness level. All the trainers are great about showing modifications. You will be surprised at how quickly you build strength and won't have to modify as much the more you do the workouts. The other excuse people make is: "I don't want to work out in a group because I'll look stilly fumbling through exercises." The rest of the people in the group can barely see past their own sweat. No one is paying attention to what anyone else is doing. Promise. So quit making excuses, join a gym that you will actually use, get fantastic workouts every week, and meet new friends. You game?
