Tony Dixon took $23,918.62 from me to pay for cabinets and rather than place the order, he stole…read morethe money. He said he placed the order with Tharpe then when the time came for installation, he said the cabinets fell off the pallet. He then said he placed another order with Harris Timberworks, then when the time came, said the cabinets were delivered to the wrong house and partially installed. These companies came to my house and took measurements. After the second time, I started to get suspicious and reached out to both companies only to find out orders were never placed. When I confronted him about it, he acted holier than thou - like I should be grateful for all the work he did and had no right to be angry. It's important to note that by this point, Tony had already completed a bathroom. That's my bathroom in his pictures with the blue and green tile. He worked primarily with my husband on that project. My husband then died and I was grateful to have someone I thought I could trust to work on my kitchen. Wow was I way off base. Definitely recommend against working with Tony especially if you are a woman.

In July we had a major 40,000 gallon leak in our crawl space - a crawl space that had been…read moreencapsulated to meet LEED standards when built 8 years ago. The 20mil poly was now serving as a pool liner to the deluge of water that had occurred. In order to help move the water out, that liner had to be cut out and then the ground had to dry out before figuring out how to replace it. After contacting a few other companies, I met with Sebastian from HomeStrong. He walked through our crawl space (5' high) and determined how to best repair and get the place back to its original condition. We chose HomeStrong because Sebastian made us feel comfortable, showed us what we could expect and gave us a team who could get the job done the following week. And the pricing was very competitive. Also, it is a family owned company - having our own family business, we really like supporting other families with businesses too. We could not be happier with the results. The project took a little more than 3 days. The team - Daniel & Christian - took such great pride in their work that once the poly was installed, they took their shoes off every time to keep the ground clean! And the encapsulation is even BETTER than it was before. The products they use are top notch. AND the color is WHITE which makes everything look so clean!! A side note here: Not having had exposed ground under our home before, the difference in the humidity and coolness in the house was directly impacted by that exposed ground, even after drying it out for a month prior to reinstalling the encapsulation system. We had a difficult time getting the house to cool less than 73º. Once poly was replaced, the house immediately cooled down and was much more comfortable. Had no idea the impact the encapsulation had been providing! A big shout out and thank you to Sebastian, Daniel & Christian for helping us get our crawl space even better than before! Old West Construction just wrapped up our basement and we couldn't be happier with it. Right from…read morethe start, we had a good feeling about working with Armando as they took the time to really think about our basement, and listen to what we wanted from the space, and to then draw up multiple options for us to look at. They put together an estimate and then contract that were both clear and gave us a good understanding of what we were looking at from a cost standpoint, including the places where its common to upgrade and where that could impact the price along the way. We had to wait a few weeks for the job to start since they were already working on another job, but Armando was always very communicative about how that project was going and the expected start date. After we got started everything was very smooth and we were kept in the loop all along the way. They had a port-a-potty on site and went in and out through the basement window so we only saw them when there were questions, or when there were large items they needed to bring in down the stairs like the drywall, granite, etc. We've worked with some companies where the "sales" person you see at the beginning is never seen or heard from again, but Armando was there, on-site and on the phone with us the whole time. There were a few things that were sub-contracted, but it was clear that Armando was the one running the job, and worked with us directly throughout the entire project. Along the way, a number of choices came up and Old West Construction was very helpful in providing us with options, including additions to the original scope of work (we ended up using them to replace our 20 year old furnace and AC as a part of the project, decided to add extra soundproofing, etc). They were never pushy but still willing to make recommendations when we wanted one, which was very helpful. It's easy to be happy with the company you picked when everything is going great, but the real sign of a great company is how they are when things go sideways. We ended up changing direction on a fireplace addition after getting pretty close to picking one out, and Armando and team had no problem reacting to our change of heart. Later in the project, we noticed that a stain color was wrong, and they immediately confirmed that it was the wrong color, and sanded, and re-stained everything the next day, no further questions or discussion needed. The quality of the basement is fantastic throughout, from a custom sump-pump knock out, to a custom wood wrap covering a steel beam, to the bedrooms and bathroom and everything else. Every detail is perfect. Aside from the house itself, this was our single biggest purchase / projects ever, and we could not be any happier that we chose to go with Old West Construction. If you're considering finishing or remodeling your basement, do yourself a favor, and go with Armando and Old West Construction, you'll be glad you did.
