First off, Amtrak doesn't know whether or not this station is staffed on the weekends. Amtrak said no one would be present. But someone opens and closes the station. On the Saturday we left, no one was present during the hour we were there. When we came in two weeks later, there was a person present. I think he was mostly there to lock up, but Amtrak had said there would be no one there. The station is in the downtown and felt moderately safe. We cruised around a bit before parking. Never saw a police car. Once inside the station, there were a lot of other people, so we felt safer. (Amtrak has two trains go through this station within 60 minutes of each other, so people are waiting for both trains.) There is a restroom and vending machines. It isn't modern...the lights are darker and the bench seating uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to be there for more than an hour or so. At least the cell phones got service.

Neither my wife, nor I, thought it looked acceptable. When we got back on the return trip, my wife didn't even want (and did not) even go back into the train station.

As they were closing the door, I kept saying excuse me my bag is gone. They looked at me and shut the door. I walked around the airport and every employee was already gone. Really rude people and really not a well run airport, even for a small one.

This is a free national park historic site to visit. You don't need a reservation and parking is…read morefree. There's a roughly quarter mile walk to the visitor center from the parking lot. The visitors center has a free ten minute movie played on demand, and a fairly large exhibit hall. Restrooms are available in the visitors center and at the picnic area where the park entrance is. There's pretty much no cell service in the park when using Verizon.

The Keeper of the Plains Plaza has such an easygoing, welcoming vibe that I ended up enjoying way…read moremore than just seeing the big statue at the center of it all. The interpretive panels around the paths are actually fun to read and they give a quick, friendly crash course on the history of the Plains tribes without feeling heavy or academic. With the Big and Little Arkansas (pronounced AR-Kansas) Rivers rushing together right below, there is a steady sound of moving water that makes the whole place feel calm even when there are people around. The pedestrian bridges are honestly half the experience. They are cable-stayed and with those tall, clean looking masts and the cables fanning out, it feels light and modern. Walking across gives a great rive of the rivers on both sides and the design makes the approach to the Keeper feel intentional. Almost like the bridges are guiding you to the statue.
