Do not shop at this store! Traveled almost an hour today to do some picking in the store. The owner was rude to me and wife for no reason at all. Do not spend your money in a place where the customer isn't safe to look around in order to decide what they wish to purchase. He made my wife cry because he was being so hateful. We travel the country and been to many antique stores and we have Never been treated so poorly as we were today. We will not be returning to this store ever again. We truly enjoyed our visit to Lou's Antique Mall! When I asked about a particular type of figurine, several people were happy to help. There are so many items, and I wish we had more time to stay. What's better than finding a great antique store? I'll tell you ... it's finding a great antique store when you thought there was absolutely no hope of finding one. I found myself in Danville, Virginia on Jan. 1, and I figured that nothing - least of all a good antique store - would be open. How wrong I was. I doddled in Lou's Antique Mall for over an hour, agog at his collection. This is one of the few places I've found with a real selection of furniture ranging from primitives to Empire, Victorian to Art Deco. Of course, every antique store is a crap-shoot and you may go in there and find nothing ... but I had no trouble picking out a half-dozen pieces that I'd happily have in my home. The proprietors were friendly and eager to help. This place is definitely on my "to visit" A-list! read more

Lou's is a great antique mall, the location is excellent and way better than the old building that used to house this mall. However, there are two bad things that stayed though the move. One, the overcrowded floor! That is a recipe of disaster! Second, Is the owner (Robert) who is the worst, most vile person I've had the displeasure of meeting. He's obnoxiously RUDE!!! He seems lethargic, and very quick to anger. I believe he may have a form of Dementia. There is no way, he is fit to run a business he can barely keep a conversation let alone operate anything. I genuinely love this antique mall and I genuinely like Robert. He just seems off lately, he didn't remember me even though I've be shopping there for 3 YEARS!!! And was very very RUDE, If the owners of the different booths knew he was ruining sales with his manner they would be appalled! This store is my happy place and I would spend thousands of dollars here a week if Robert wasn't there!!! It's definitely time for him to retire and live a more simple life he just can't keep running his business into the ground with his behavior. read more

I went to Lou's for the first time today and the owner was staring at my friends and I the entire time. We were in there for awhile and we noticed a sales associate following us around, watching us as if they were suspicious of us. When we were about to leave, the owner abruptly stopped us at the door and asked if we had taken any pictures, which we had (1 selfie!!). He claimed that there were signs everywhere saying that photos weren't allowed, but we didn't see any signs. He proceeded to threaten to call the police which was absolutely ridiculous. We've never been treated like this in any store before for absolutely no reason!!! Not to mention, the store had tons of junk that was completely overpriced. Don't waste your time! read more

Having grown up with an Antique dealer grandmother, not only have I been exposed to the business but I often helped her both purchase and sell items at shows. I love history and old items so I was THRILLED when Lou's opened up in Danville. I have taken nearly all of my out of town guests there and spent thousands on mostly small items. I have purchased gifts, items for myself and even items for my recent wedding. One reason we enjoy Lou's is that you can bargain for a better price. In fact, I rarely have paid the full asking price and Lou himself has even offered a discount when I didn't even suggest it. We have purchased $125 items for $50, $40 items for $25 and so on. We went to shop there on Saturday because my mother was in town and she asked to go to Lou's. After looking for over an hour we went to one booth that we were told by Lou himself maybe 6 months ago, was trying to liquidate because the owner had died and the family didn't want to keep the booth open. At that time, my mother purchased a handful of items from this booth, including something marked $20 that Lou let her have for a dollar--95% off the asking price. I have watched various items in this booth overtime and decided to make an offer on 4 items, two of which had been damaged since they sat in the booth and another was a rug that was getting worn because it was laid out. My step brother offered to see if would be willing to deal to get the damaged items sold so I could keep shopping for my new home. About 10 minutes later I hear Lou yelling, "Where is that smart@ss kid" from at least 100 feet away. He got louder from there on and proceeded to yell at the top of his lungs right in my step brother's face, saying that he was trying to take advantage of a death and they were not going to give things away. I have never seen anyone in sales be this rude to a customer and I have worked in retail all my life. I was prepared to spend over a thousand dollars on damaged items that had sat there for at least a year as they became more damaged. Everyone handles things differently but I fail to see the reason Lou got so upset at our offer that he nearly punched my step brother and certainly both verbally abused him and embarrassed him in front other customers. The fact there was a death came from Lou directly as why he was willing to deal on that booth's items so much the past times. My offer was no where near 95% off and was merely a starting bid as I expected to go back'n'forth as you do when bargaining. When we went downstairs to leave, it was clear that the staff downstairs had been discussing our bids (likely in front of downstairs customers) and glared at us. Based on this treatment no-one I know will go back to Lou's and ever support someone who takes his frustration out on a customer. That is never acceptable and it was so bad the police where almost involved to protect my step brother. No one ever deserves that type of service. Understand when you shop at Lou's, you never know what the staff will do or how they will choose to treat you. I, sadly, recommend you take your business elsewhere. read more

The owner was so rude from the get go! Me and my significant other went in there to see if they have anything nice we could buy and instead the entire time we were there, my fiancé is getting insulted by the owner about his clothes when There was nothing wrong with them at all. We didn't even get to go through the entire store because he followed up around basically breathing on our necks the entire time we were there which was maybe a good 10 minutes. At one point I wanted to go look at things that he didn't want too so we split up and went to different booths. My fiancé went to a booth the owner was at and at the time he seen a nice piece of jewelry he liked in one of his cases and asked him to open it to he could take a look at it. And Ofcourse the owner acted like that was a issue he was extremely rude about it and once again acted like how dare you even wanna look at that stuff again insults my man trying to single out every flaw he has. SO SORRY HE ISNT PERCECT OR GOOD ENOUGH TO COME INTO YOUR STORE. So my fiancé got fed up and just walked away he called me to find out where I was I told him I was looking at stuffed animals and jewelry so he came and found me and immediately the owner follows him and yells at him telling him he's never allowed back at his store that he has reason to kick him out when really he didn't tell us why at all!!! I was astonished about how rude he was he acted like someone was stealing just by the way we were dressed. We were discriminated against by this man how could you stay in business this long acting like that? I even called back up to the store to ask him why myself because he didn't do anything and neither did I and all he said was come back and find out which sounded like a threat to me . No one was rude to him or disrespectful to him . He much be getting to that age. I wouldn't visit this store unless your willing to get horrible service from a grouchy racist old man. read more

I love going to Lou's. Robert is the owner and his wife passed several years ago. He was the behind the scenes guy and she was the antiques expert. He had to learn real fast. Lol. He's an older gentleman who will try and negotiate any item your interested in. There are in fact 3 floors all with various dealers and vendors I read a post that gave him 1 star. Did you ever go back and tell him how you felt? Probably not.. I read the post and all I got from it was your feelings got hurt. Please tell him how it made you and your dad feel. I sure he'd appreciate it. Please go back. Don't let a bad day ruin the awesome experience you will have. Plan on a couple of hours. Lol. Enjoy! read more

I have been to this place a few times and have bought each time. This last time my Wife and I were followed around the entire store by a woman who worked there. It was very unpleasant and felt like we were being accused of something. WILL NEVER GO BACK! Please be advised of this if you choose to go. I visited Lou's Antique Mall in mid-September in route to Eden, NC for a relative's birthday. I would like to give this antique mall a higher rating because the people on staff when I visited were very friendly. But the quality of this place's goods in general left a lot to be desired. I felt a lot of it was garage-sale or flea-market-type quality with relatively few things that really seemed old or interesting. Plus, to make matters worse the prices seemed way too high. I have been collecting a certain type of animal-related collectible for 20 years now for which I've conducted searches in dozens of antique malls and shops. I saw one item at Lou's that I've seen many times before and never even had any desire to own because it's relatively common. Right now, there are probably 3-4 on eBay for sale under $18. And the one at Lou's was priced at $29 - at least twice as high as it should have been, given the condition. I had also stopped at Lou's location in Amherst and bought a mechanical bank that I'd hoped was truly old (I'm not too knowledgeable about these) but it turned out to be a definite reproduction. That's ok - it's still a "fun" piece but, again, the price, while not outrageous, could have been better. All in all, I have to say that all of the antique malls at which I stopped on this trip down Route 29 in Virginia were generally a disappointment, not just Lou's Antique Mall. The quality isn't as high as what I've found in Richmond/Fredericksburg, as well as Maryland and Pennsylvania Dutch Country. There's just too much stuff that's essentially junk and not nearly enough truly vintage items and legitimate antiques. read more

Huge selection of overpriced items; some don't even appear to be antiques. There are multiple floors of items collecting dust and the price has even worn off of several things due to how long they've sat on the shelf. By the time we made it to the second floor my husband was ill from the sheer amounts of stuff everywhere. We purchased one item and our "discount" was $2 off a purchase over $50. We also had the awkward experience of a staff member following us throughout the building. Will not be back. read more

This was the worst shopping experience of my life. Let me start by saying I have lived in this town for about six years now and have never had any complaints with this antique mall until today, in fact it's one of my favorite stores in town. Normally the staff is courteous and willing to help, as well as take lower offers. Today I was with a group of my family looking for not only treasures for myself but in the search for substantial pieces of furniture for my brother-in-law's new house. Within the first twenty minutes we inquired about the price of an unmarked basket and chatted a bit with an employee, no problem. We made our way upstairs and hit the jackpot. We found several large pieces we all loved and a few happened to be marked down. As this is a business that is based on negotiation we made an offer for all the pieces together. The gentlemen that took our offer seemed nice and receptive but had to go talk to the owner. It took about five minutes for the owner to come upstairs and by then we had all spread out as we were still on the search for more goodies. The owner (an older gentleman) came in the room and yelled the following "Where is the young smart-ass who's trying to lowball us? Just because my wife died doesn't mean we are closing and giving everything away." This was just the start of the nasty things that came out of this man's mouth. I have never witnessed anything like this before, let alone been part of it. This is beyond unacceptable! I completely understand if our pricing was just way below what they would accept but this verbal assault was not justified. I've personally bargained (and scored--from this store) deeper discounts than we were even asking for/starting with. I'm sorry for his loss but that is no excuse to treat customers this way. We have been loyal and even brought our out of town guest here on a regular basis. We were in such shock that all five of us walked out. They certainly lost the large sale they would have had today and any in the future. I will never go back to this store again. Antique stores are a dime a dozen and this one just gave me a huge reason to NOT give them my business ever again. read more

I visited Lou's today for the first time. I was enchanted! With only an hour or so to spend wandering the store, I only made it around the main floor once, but I look forward to exploring the upper and lower floors on future visits to Danville. The proprietor was friendly, knowledgeable, and more than ready to offer discounts on the items I piled on the counter--although the original asking prices were very reasonable. I also enjoyed the comradery of the other shoppers; Lou's had a bit of the feel of an old-time General Store, with something for everybody, including a smile. read more

Don't go to this antique shop! Me and my dad checked what time they closed before we walked in, which was 6:00. We walked in at 5:34, which was plenty of time to glance at some things. My dad had went in there before looking and he found a tv stand he thought I would like. He took me in there to look at it and see if I would like it. When we walked in there the owner and his wife was standing in the front. He said, "You only have 15 min". Which I thought was kinda rude in the first place. Then his wife decided to add a comment and say, "There is 3 floors you can't look at all of the floors". Me and my dad were feeling really rushed at this point. Then we were going to look anyway since we already knew what we were looking for. As we stepped away to go look, we heard the owner say, "I don't know why people show up at this time every night". So, my dad ask me if I want to leave and I said yes. As we walked out my dad said, "we'll get out of your way then". I have never had anyone treat me like this at a store in my life, don't go there!! read more

I've been visiting Lou's Antique Mall in Danville for YEARS. The problem is the same inventory is there year after year after year.... It has turned into a place that furniture and dishes go to die. I attribute the lack of turnover to the high prices. Like any antique mall, if you look hard enough you'll find something that is a deal, but you have to look really hard at Lou's. 9 out of 10 items are overpriced -- hence the reason the inventory sits. Sad, because it use to be a good place to pick. I think Robert needs to tell the vendors to clear out and start over again. read more

I'm surprised to see some of these negative reviews! I've been buying and selling here for the past ten years. The first time I visited at 14 years old I feel in love with antiques. Any questions I have had have always been answered. The most shocking thing I've read is that the prices are to high. I've almost always been offered a discount even without asking. I've sold antiquities as well and always been given a far price. As far as being followed I've never experienced that here even when I bring my little brother who is only 8. The place is child friendly he loves it there as much as I do and was even offered a ride on the old elevator the last time we visited! We love this place! When we have friends visit Danville it's at the top of our to do list! They have something for everyone! read more
