I was greeted with hellos from three different ladies but that's all I got from them. They must have smelled the lack of cash in my pocket. It's fine, I get it. At least they didn't push me out the door. Their space is really nice, almost too nice. Some day some one will have to explain to me how a gallery doesn't fill up all of that empty space. If it was me, I would have stuff hanging or sitting everywhere. They do get major props for exhibiting Jon Langford's work. If you don't know who he is, look him up! Ever here of the band "The Mekons"?! Or maybe seen his paintings on the bottles and other items for the "Dogfish Head Brewery". Langford is also an honorary board member of the Chicago based nonprofit organization Rock For Kids (which is Kyle H's favorite charity group). Anyways he has unique style that is really cool. If I could justify the crazy cost of art, I would own one for sure. As for TMG, it was worth the visit.

There's just something so cool, when asked where I am going that night to say, "I've got a gallery opening tonight". Indeed. Such was the case the other night when a friend was showing some of her work at the Thomas Master Gallery in Old Town. She only had 4 pieces but how exciting to walk into the gallery and see her work displayed and people gathered about discussing each piece. The art was masterfully displayed and the gallery staff was quick to make sure that everyone could find the pieces that they were looking for and could answer questions on availability and pricing. And even though I was just looking and there to support my friend, I didn't feel any kind of pressure from the gallery to buy anything. It's not an every night occurrence, but gallery openings? Always a fun way to spend an evening with others who can appreciate the beauty of art.

This is a working art gallery, so it can be exciting to see works in progress, (he does a lot of commissions of families, estates, etc.) Josh is a great person & artist and his gallery is worth a visit online or if you make it to Chicago, if you're looking for a gift he offers a host of options at all price points. When a friend recently showed me a gorgeous painting she had purchased here I decided to stop in to look for a space I've been looking to fill in my family room. Cynthia could not have been sweeter and after seeing a picture of the space showed me a bunch of paintings that could work. She has so much gorgeous art in this gallery, but I especially liked Amie Campbell's work. She photoshopped a few of my favorite pieces into the room and while I loved the artwork, I didn't think they were quite right for the space. I"m continuing to search for the perfect piece for this particular room, but I'll definitely be back to look for future artwork needs.

I hadn't heard of The Empty Corner until one of my former fitness coaches told us we should patronize the art show he was a part of. The parking lot is a bit small, but it wasn't that big of a deal to park on the street before wrapping presents with the Good Neighbors Network. I recommended the space to my cousin for a family party because it has 2 bathrooms, no specific food attached to it, and a bar space! (I know they have a friend that is a bartender that could run it!) I do like that they offer a variety of classes, but the cookie class is out of my price range of what I would want to pay for my daughter and I to attend. For now, I will keep attending their markets, monthly drum circles, and volunteer opportunities!
