It seems a lot of things here are not homemade as described on the menu. That short rib and brisket blend burger? It looked a frozen patty that gotten overcooked. Fries? Frozen and overcooked. Calamari? Not cooked enough. Don't order cocktails, they taste very medicinal and heavily rely on pre-made mixers. She did however prematurely take my drink away- although I wasn't finished; that could have been a simple mistake. The appetizers were decent. We had one Crabcake, which is odd considering they normally come with two at any other restaurant, but it was pretty good. The potstickers were also good. I had the Salmon Oscar, which was flavorful. My husband had the stuffed shrimp which was also good. We added a side of Mushroom Risotto and it was not good at all. The manager offered to remove it from our bill. Arrived with some sort of indistinguishable white melted cheese. No ricotta or mascarpone cheese in sight. Not a fresh herb to be found. No bacon as requested for the vegetarian at the table. This place was alright with me. The accommodated 36 of us for a surprise birthday party. They charge a 21% gratuity but most places do with larger parties. The were extremely patient, courteous, and timely with the food (with the exception of 1 persons who ordered ribs and his ribs were 35 minutes after everyone else's) I ordered the arugula salad with feta cheese and shrimp. It had fresh fruit, mountain of arugula, feta cheese, candied pecan, purple onions and a citrus vinaigrette. Overall the salad was good. 7.2/10 I will be back. What a fantastic evening! My younger sister and brother-in-law hosted my nephew's rehearsal dinner here tonight and it was such a wonderful venue! We had the upstairs to ourselves and had great hors-d 'oeuvres of shrimp, pimento cheese bites, and wings. There was also an open bar for folks to order drinks. The meal was a choice of ribeye, salmon, or chicken. I had the ribeye and it was delicious and the asparagus was cooked to perfection! My brother-in-law had the salmon and said it was great. The dessert choices were chocolate mousse and cheesecake. The chocolate mousse was divine. The service was impeccable, filling glasses, taking orders, and getting them out promptly, as well as attending to empty plates in a timely manner. Now mind you, my sister did the decorating, so the atmosphere was amazing! See the table decor! My son in Texas is getting married in November. I cut my teeth on sushi here. While I discovered I am not a fan, I would definitely go back and order something off of their more American menu. Ambience was nice, service was really good. I'm happy this restaurant is operating right now since my husband and I wanted to celebrate our 15 year anniversary somewhere nice. When we walked in I saw a few people wiping items down in between customers visiting. All the staff were wearing masks and tables were separated to keep a larger distance from others. During my visit, the restaurant appeared to be adhering to all NC guidelines for covid-19 restaurant regulations. Due to the fact that not many people are visiting restaurants right now, that meant the wait staff weren't overloaded with guests and the service was great. We started with the Crispy Calamari as an appetizer. I ordered an item that I believe was seasonal, Cod with greens and rice with a cilantro-jalapeno butter sauce on the top. It was absolutely delicious and very filling. We finished with the bourbon pecan pie with ice cream (also possibly seasonal item, not normally on the menu) and we left absolutely stuffed. I absolutely recommend this to be a dinner destination in Gastonia and encourage others to check it out. read more

Interesting place. We were in the area and this place was recommended to us. I was surprised it was in a shopping center. We came in for lunch and there was no one inside as far as customers and it looked like they were still getting ready to open. We ended up getting seated. We didn't get greeted for a while. We waited a bit. While we were waiting, we were looking at the menu. It's a random range from sushi to sandwiches, salads, flatbreads, etc. The server finally greeted us and he seemed super frazzled. We asked him a question and he was unsure and walked off and started yelling asking the chef something. He came back and answered us. We placed our orders. A few other tables came in and it seems like every time the server had a question, he would start yelling in the dining area as he was walking in the kitchen. I got the sushi. It was surprisingly good. It was fresh and delicious. My husband got the chicken panini and fries. Our friends got salads and sushi and also a panini. Came into town for work and this was the nicest place we could find open on a Monday night. Honestly, 3 stars seems low for how much some of us enjoyed our food, but something was off. Started with apps: pimento cheese bites and calamari - no complaints there. Calamari was especially good. Pimento cheese fritters were good. Main course was filet, shrimp & grits & chicken parm. Filet was great. My friend shared a bit and it was on point. Shrimp and grits were unique, but that is one reason I order that; so many different interpretations. My shrimp were a bit cold or over cooked and the whole dish needed a bit of salt but the sauce was great and the brussel sprouts perfection. Not my favorite shrimp and grits, but enjoyable. The chicken parm was huge! Massive. However, per my co worker that barely ate any of it, the chicken was tough and barely able to be cut. Service was fine, nothing extra, but no complaint. If I was local I might give it another try, but of the 4 restaurants we are in this was the least favorite all the way around. read more

Y'all! We were so tired after work we did GrubHub. We ordered Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Alfredo and 2 orders of Potstickers. Most of the time when we order out, the packaging and portions leave a lot to be desired. This was NOT the case here! The portions were huge, delicious and still hot! The potstickers were flavorful and made to perfection. Our photos show that our meals were mostly already eaten, we could not help but dive in. Pictures were an afterthought. After we ate we ventured over to the bar and the bartender was wonderful and friendly. We ended up making friends with a lady next to us and 4 glasses of wine and a couple shots later we all got cut off. Not even mad. We were probably loud and they wanted us out, but I totally understood. I gave it 4 stars because ONE thing was missing, and that was Cabernet by glass options. I knew things were off when we arrived during lunch hour on a Saturday and the restaurant was empty. Addressing me as "big guy" was another amateur tip I disregarded. I know better and it went predictably down hill. The lone server, whom I could've felt sorry for if the place was rocking, spent most of his time talking with a couple girls. 30 minutes after we sat down he brings us our food. Soup was nearly cold, and what was described wonderfully as salad on the menu, was just a glob of lettuce sitting on a plate; moreover, it was warm and wilted having sat under a heat lamp waiting for pick up. We took my mother out to eat here to have a nice dinner over the Fourth of July weekend. They possibly had the best Sushi I have tasted, but when my wife's steak was overcooked, three people came to our table at separate times and asked to see it as if she were lying about the situation to get a free meal when at no time did we ever ask for a discount. We never even sent it back to the kitchen, and were only pointing it out to our waitress since initially she was so positive that the cooks get every steak perfect! My family and I booked a private room for a surprise retirement dinner and it was perfect! It was intimate enough but still gave us plenty of room to mix and mingle. We were allowed to bring our own decor and the staff was amazing. They were very accommodating, even when we had a few more people show up than expected. A worry I think most have when dining with a large party is the wait. That wasn't the case at Lotus. Everyone received their food one after the other, so no one was stuck wondering where their order was. The food presentation was stunning. The food itself was delicious. No one had in the party had dined at Lotus before, but every said they will return. To the staff, thank you so much for making this surprise dinner party happen. They serve a great steak (their steak frites oh man), good seafood, and sushi. They also have a fantastic bourbon bar (and good wine selection to boot), with lots of hard to find things, and a homemade dessert. The tomatoes were cold and old...they turned to mush, when I tried to pierce them with my fork, the lettuce wedge was old, looked wilted, and the dressing tasted like store bought (not the best brand either. The salmon was fishy tasting. I took two bites and told waitress to take the food. She was very nice, so was the manager. Offered to give me a free meal. I opted out. I won't be back. Our favorite sushi place is now our favorite brunch place. Lotus is relatively close to our house, yet we have felt compelled to venture to Charlotte and dine at various other sushi and brunch (among other places) places often. I'm not sure what we were thinking. Lotus stands up to the best places we've had sushi and brunch. Their sushi is simple (as traditional sushi is supposed to be) and not 'Americanized' like the sushi you'd find at places like Cowfish. However they do have some unconventional sushi rolls I would deem 'Americanized' and do enjoy them as well. I still prefer simple. Back to brunch...we will definitely be returning for it read more

I'm filing this one under one of the best meals I've ever had. I'm 30 and fat. I've had a lot of meals. A friend and I were in town from Nashville to visit Carowinds and I basically just looked up restaurants near our hotel. This one popped up and the menu looked great. Variety, fusion, unique. First of all, it may be in a strip mall, but the ambiance is wonderful inside. We sat down, tired from a day of driving and were promptly greeted by our waiter. I always try to eat and drink local when traveling so I asked him what local brews they had. Unfortunately, the only local brews on tap were IPAs, but they did have a Charlotte-made pale ale, Jam Session, and it was awesome. We couldn't decide on one appetizer, so we got two. potstickers and spring rolls. They. Were. Delicious. It was the sauce that topped the potstickers that made them extremely unique. Some of the best I've had. The peanut sauce accompanying the springs rolls was perfect and had a little kick to it. Very unique. Since we were both craving grits, we each got the BBQ pork. What a great-sized portion. It came with two slabs of BBQ pork and the sauce was sweet (our waiter even told us it'd be on the sweet end, just in case we didn't like that kind of sauce). The pork was on top of cheese grits (phenomenal), along with green beans and sided with fried green tomatoes. What an awesome, southern dish. We loved it so much that we actually filled out the comment cards and handed them to the hostess. I'd love to go back the next time in town and try the sushi. But what a unique restaurant that we were able to enjoy Asian and southern cuisine in the same place! read more

Terrible service. Absolutely the worse dinning experience one can have. I ask the waiter to recommend a Cabernet or Merlot wine, he walked away and came back with a glass of red wine (?) suggestion? As I swirled the glass, my hand felt a crusty coating surrounding the glass. Held it to the light..filthy. The 34 minute wait from after consuming the appetizer, until the main meal arrived was unacceptable. No water service or check in from the waiter. No lighting in the bar dinning area except tea lights. I had to use my phone to illuminate the menu. Other guest did as well. The place was not busy, yet service was awful.. Great place to retire as it may be that long before you see either the waiter or your food. Eat elsewhere. Coal miners lamp required. read more
