This was a great experience! Really fun and lowkey writing workshop. Thanks so much, Lynne!

Lynne is such a great teacher and really keeps the group cohesive and involved - but not intimidating at all!

The 2 hours whizzed by, and Jessie was really friendly and great and giving and showing instructions. She was also very patient with students' questions. The ornaments ended up being so cute from everyone, we were all thoroughly impressed by everyone's work. A lot of us, including me, didn't finish the entire project during class, so we got to take home the supplies we'd need to finish at home. Jessie made sure we had the supplies and knowledge/skills so that we'd succeed at home with finishing up. The studio is nice and cozy, there were about 16 participants of mixed genders and ages. It was really fun, and we can't wait to try more classes!

The…read moreinstructor was very knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely kind, which made the class welcoming and easy to follow. That said, there were a few organizational issues that took away from the experience. The class started late because the instructor chose to wait and see if more people would trickle in, which felt disrespectful to those of us who arrived on time. I also wish there had been clearer communication beforehand about supplies. We weren't told that we could bring our own molds, and the only molds provided were small condiment containers, which resulted in some pretty awkward and unattractive soap shapes. Better molds or advance notice would have made a big difference. It also would have been helpful if instructions or an overview of the process had been emailed ahead of time or posted on the class listing so participants knew what to expect. Additionally, a few of the soap mix-ins were unavailable. This wasn't a major issue, but it did add to the impression that the class was a bit underprepared. Overall, I still enjoyed the class and learned a lot, thanks largely to the instructor's expertise and friendliness. With better preparation and clearer communication for students, this could easily be a great experience rather than just a good one.

You will not be disappointed - what you will be is a more confident seamster! Seriously, I was somewhat of a skeptic (I took a few classes at another nameless place in Manhattan) and was pleasantly surprised by the personal attention at this little gem of a studio. My only frustration was with scheduling. It's a little tough to get into some of the classes, so don't delay! And it's true: everything's better in BROOKLYN!

Sure i picked a fabric I absolutely love, but I just finished the second session of the 2-day beginner workshop and the skills I learned at Sweet Life Studio were priceless. I've had some experience with sewing before, but nothing formal and I definitely had some gaps in my ability, so I thought I'd sign up for a class. Originally, I chose Sweet Life because it was a good location, but I definitely think I lucked out. Sarah, the instructor is so good, not only at what she does, but in clearly explaining how to do it yourself. Her experience teaching classes is evident, because she is able to skim her knowledge so that she can deliver a clear, concise workshop, where you leave with a completed project, as opposed to a random assortment of tips and half-taught skills. At the same time, she is open to questions and really gives the personal attention any beginner would need to feel confident. For the first session, I used my own sewing machine and then we realized the stitches weren't coming out right. Because she is truly a DIY kinda person (check her blog - www.verysweetlife.com), she was immediately able to identify the mechanical issue. That being said, I was unable to use my machine for this second class, but I was able to use one of hers, which I think is so generous, since I am still a beginner :) Anyhow. I could go on, but I hope my point is clear - if you're a beginner or want to increase your skills, check out the workshops and sign up. You won't leave disappointed. If I was more tech-savvy I'd post a pic of my pillow...

You will quickly notice favoritism, particularly with the registrar. Be sure to pay your tuition in person, the registrar has been known to cancel classes by alleging that your tuition check arrived late. Many Professors at Brooklyn College have agendas to run. In addition to teaching, the typical Professor has a charity to support, a cause to support, or something to whine about. There are more Marxist's on the payroll at BC than anybody can count. BC is also a very competitive place. If you are in a Laboratory do not leave your experiment unattended. Students have been known to sabotage other students work. Do not share your written work with anyone. Plagiarism is a bad habit with the old guard at BC. Once upon a time BC was very well maintained, these days it is falling apart. There are serious issues in Boylan and James hall's. The Library clock has been broken for years. Where the maintenance money is going is a mystery to me. BC had some great Professors once upon a time. They have all retired, and alas some have passed. Hans Trefousse(History), Peter Brancazio(Physics), David Minars(Accounting), Jim Johnson(Speech), and John Blamire(Biology) are all gone. What you are stuck with these days are a bunch of antiquated buffoons that are totally out of touch with reality. Best of luck if you go, you may want to look for a job instead. There are a lot of businesses hiring now that the pandemic is under control. Why wait?
