Dirilis: Ertugrul has been a joy! I was at S2 E75 when I saw the acknowledgement of Losa Translating Services. English is my mother tongue; after that, some conversational Spanish, and various words here and there. Having tutored English as a Second language, I saw how difficult translanguage comprehension is. While English, a Germanic language, shares the same Indo-European family as Turkish, an Indo-Iranian category, the sheer scope of a project this big must have been daunting. Just considering idioms and semantics alone, much less time deadlines, and budgets, is humbling. I know how Bamsi felt sitting in that class! Note: Bamsi also dropped some serious wisdom a few episodes earlier when he mentioned the scholar Hamid Kirmani. I wonder how many of those laughing school boys knew about Rahat al-'aql? For a methodical reader like myself, I appreciate the brevity of most of the subtitles. So, having proofread in too many law firms to give a 5 Star review, I give a 4 Star "Yay - I'm a fan," and to the negative reviews I've seen here, I'll just say "Let those without typos cast the first stone." read more

I am very grateful to Losa Tercüme for providing English subtitles for the grand Turkish drama Dirillis Ertuğrul. The historical setting is worthy of wider understanding. The powerful roles given to women characters is groundbreaking in this form of drama. The portrayal of Islam is timely. I acknowledge that there are shortcomings in translation. I am sad that Netflix, with all its resources, did not partner with Losa Tercüme to provide a more polished version for the worldwide streaming release of this Turkish TV drama series. That said, the shortcomings in translation don't matter to me. If anything, they serve to remind me that this is not English... Well done, Losa Tercüme. read more

I am watching Resurrection: Ertugrul. Actually most of the translation is very impressive: I understand everything that is going on. However there are some big mistakes and some very funny ones. It is very funny you get the sexes mixed up and call a great man, a niece, which is an uncle's daughter. And Good Luck is offering good energy to someone for their project. But 'good luck with that' is usually only every said sarcasticly, when you doubt they can do it. There are some other big faux pas, especially when you use common sayings but the meaning is not properly understood for fitting the situation. Please have someone who speaks English perfectly review the translation and find these inappropriate moments. Season 2 of Dirilis: Ertugrul. Without a doubt the worst English translation I have ever seen in my life. It is almost unbelievably bad. Grammar, syntax, conflating parts of speech, inappropriate vocabulary and idioms, improper tense, even gender use. Just about everything wrong. It is refreshing to see one well completed sentence. Usually I can guess what the translator is trying to say but sometimes it is impossible. Is it so hard to find a translator with even a mediocre command of the language? read more

Like when they're talking about a nephew, and say the word niece! Easy for me to follow! Huge production, nearly 200 episodes! That must be extremely difficult. read more

It seems pretty clear to me that they have at least a few translators there. About 2/3 of the Ertugrul series had major English problems, with a few pleasant episodes scattered around with significantly better grammar. Whoever is responsible for botching that much of a great series shouldn't be translating anything. read more

I just finished the last episode of Resurrection: Ertugrul for which your firm apparently provided translation into English. If it weren't for my interest in historical dramas and an interesting story line I would not have watched the show for more than a few episodes because the translation was truly atrocious for the most part. At times, sentences seem to be translated word for word from Turkish to English and therefore don't make any sense at all, and whoever worked on the subtitles clearly doesn't have a working knowledge of English expressions or terminology. Well, if your goal was to discourage English speaking viewers you certainly did a great job. Just keep in mind, though, that this kind of 'broken English' does not make the characters sound sophisticated, dignified or particularly intelligent or educated. read more

I have watched Resurrection Ertugrul and thoroughly enjoyed the storyline but unfortunately the subtitled translation was shameful. Quite apart from the spelling, gender and grammar mistakes a lot of it didn't even match the obvious dialogue which brings me to believe the translators were making it up as they saw fit showing disrespect to the role players really. I have been really enjoying the Turkish TV series 'Diriliş Ertuğrul' (titled 'Resurrection: Ertugrul' on Netflix in the US), so much so, that I'm trying to get my friends and family to watch it. However, the English subtitles are horrifyingly bad. Google Translate would do a better job. Whoever is responsible obviously has ZERO command of spoken English. Any translation company who would put its name behind such shoddy work should be ashamed of itself. If I were in any sort of business requiring Turkish content translated into English, I would absolutely steer clear of this company. It is so awful that I feel compelled to reach out to the creators of the show and recommend that they have all the English subtitles redone in order to give this wonderful series a fighting chance to gain popularity with English speaking audiences. I'm likely to do this in Turkish to the owners, producers, and actors on the show--so that they can become aware of how tarnished their jewel of a series has become due to these awful subtitles. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I am not the first to feel compelled to bring this to people's attention--given that every review I've read so far about this company relates to 'Diriliş Ertuğrul'. This show clearly has potential with English-speaking audiences. I'm sorry the production company, or whoever was responsible for hiring these hack translators did not recognize the potential in international income from their otherwise excellent series due to their lack of attention in this particular area. I really hope they do something about this--and hire a firm that will provide the quality English translation this marvelous television epic deserves! read more

To be honest? Absolutely terrible English translation of Dirilis Ertugrul. Without knowing Turkish I could improve it greatly. It is amazing to me that a series of such quality allowed such a poor translation to be published and distributed. I hope it will be improved some day. read more

Extraordinary poor English translation of Resurrection Ertugrul. I was somewhat shocked when the line...."I wish you had noticed that the traitor c*** is next to you" popped up on the screen! The use of the C word was totally inappropriate for a program that displays a 12 rating on Netflix in the UK. It wasn't the only incident of inappropriate bad language either, and I haven't even mentioned the various other issues; vocabulary, grammar, syntax etc. I'm currently on episode 152 of the production and am impressed with many aspects of it. However, as someone who regularly watches television with English subtitles, this particular translation has to be the absolute worst I have ever seen. read more

I have to agree with the other post on here. I am watching Ertugrul and am extremely disappointed with the translation. I am not a Turkish language speaker, however, I have some Urdu and Arabic under my belt and can see that the subtitles lack A LOT of spirit which is clear in the story and characters themselves. The subtitles do NO justice to this story and its extremely frustrating! Horrible translation job, at times some of the sentences make absolutely NO sense. So I was watching Ertugrul and at first thought something was a little off with the translations. I cannot understand Turkish and I know a little Arabic but the level of translations done was downright horrible. So much so that the entire context changes. Even the sentence structure was not taken into account and seems they had someone translate this who has absolutely no control over the English language. In fact so much of the Arabic which many people in this part of the world who are non Arab will still be able to do a better translation of those. These were not small details that got lost in translation. Obviously many things are complex to translate, things with poetry for example or idioms but this agency messed up the translations so bad and actually added the name of their company during the end part of the episode of S2: E76. I immediately googled it so I could come and share my thoughts. I have watched over a 150 episodes at this point and I can say that not one episode had a decent job done. It is like the translation agency never expected any one speaking English to ever read it. If this is their level of service that they delivered to a huge project like this, I shudder to think the level of service they would provide to individual people who might even approach them for sensitive documents or media. I would still recommend that you watch Ertugrul despite the shabby work they have done but to warn people to stay away from this place if they want to have anything translated. Peace Upon All of You. The translation into English of "Resurrection, Ertugrul" is an absolute disgrace. It has obviously been translated by someone who doesn't understand the English language at all and does a huge disservice to an excellent historical drama. I would recommend the producers of Ertugrul re-think and hire a competent translation service. read more

I am trying no to give up watching the series Ertugrul. The acting is good sometimes suberb. The story interesting. However the translation is sôoooooo bad! It borders on the ridiculous. If i were doing business in Turkey or wherever this translation outfit is, I would not trust them with my communication needs. I watch lots of international productions and have to say that the Turkish to English translation of Dirilis: Ertugrul is the worst I have come across. Some of the English idioms are so misused as to be hilarious. I find myself laughing out loud during very serious scenes. At other times I have to guess what characters are saying by their facial expression because the subtitles make absolutely no sense. This is either translated solely by a bad computer program or the translators have no understanding of English. read more

sumaiyya r. summed it up well. I don't understand Turkish at all, but it doesn't matter. I am also watching Ertoğrul, and much of the time, the translations don't make sense. Tense is off, pronouns like he vs. she are mixed up, vocabulary is odd, sentence structure is usually bad . . . it seems this translation company casts too wide a net with all the languages it claims it can translate. Losa, do you use a translation software? How about hiring a copyeditor to smooth over the very, very rough translations, preferably one who understands a little Turkish and a lot of English (i.e., a native English speaker with some knowledge of Turkish)? read more
