I Door Dashed my order and I just got it. I ordered the super nachos with pastor as the meat and when opening the container, the grease from the meat splattered onto my freshly cleaned floor. We get home and open our burritos which were each labeled. But here is the problem , They label my shrimp burrito as asada and hers as shrimp. My Wife is 5 months pregnant and she occasionally allergic to shrimp , depending on amount she consumes if she happens to consume. She bites the burrito and gets a mouthful of Shrimp . I bite hers and get a mouthful of Pico . So First Mistake is Wrong label , Which pissed me off because now were worried waiting to see if she is getting a reaction and she immediatley calls hospital because she is pregnant. Also Im glad it was my wife and me who got food because if it was a friend or coworker we wouldve had to throw food away because of COVID and i wouldnt have ate the burrito if someone else bit into it. Since I just moved from LA, where you can find Mexican restaurants and taco trucks in every block of the city, my standard for Mexican food has been trained well, so I found this crowded place to be just so-so. First of all, I really liked the salsa and chips buffet. I'm basically a sucker for sauce bar and I tend to go crazy with the sauces. So that's a big plus for me at this place. My co-worker & I had lunch here today. He ordered a Super Buritto with carnitas while I ordered a Large Quesadilla with carne asada and a drink. Not having been here before, the cashier directed me to the side room, where the drinks and salsa bar were located. Uh oh... this place will be dangerous for me. My co-worker's super burrito was very big, and he couldn't quite finish it (to be fair, he did fill up on the unlimited chips and salsa!). My quesadilla was very good, though it did have lettuce inside (next time, no lettuce). Lots of avocado. The broth you are left with at the end includes remnants of crackers, salsa with a little Tapatio and lime. I practically gulped it down. Fresh food and great friendly service. This used to be our "go to" spot when we lived in the East Bay. The last time I ate here they were doing construction on the other side to expand the restaurant. My husband suggested that we eat something light for dinner after we celebrated my youngest's birthday at my in laws. He said he ate here a month ago when he was in the area and mentioned that the restaurant is a lot bigger now; but, more expensive. We walked in and that's the first thing I noticed. Their prices did go up quite a bit for certain items. We contemplated whether to eat here or to walk over to Poke Don. I ordered just a side of rice for our little ones while my husband walked over to check Poke Don. He came back and told me to just eat here. We spent $20 for 3 small items and one fountain drink. Basically, an extremely light snack. Their horchata is still the same (we like it) and their salsa/pico bar is pretty good too (they just moved it to the new section of the restaurant). I washed my hand in the restroom in the expanded section and it was a mess and very dirty. I recall that their restrooms that are right by the order counter was much cleaner. Overall, we were a little disappointed since it seems like their quality went down, their portions seemed smaller, and their prices went up. As my husband said, they need to pay that extra rent. We walked in with a group of 10 people and I immediately see the two ladies behind the counter begin talking, gesturing, giggling towards our direction. As we were the only group to walk through the doors at that time, it was obvious they were talking about us. Choosing to ignore this, we approached the counter to look at their menu. Our group of 10 consisted entirely of my family from Hong Kong and I was the only one of the group who spoke English. So I took my time explaining the vast menu to everyone while very consciously making sure we weren't in anyone's way; as soon as someone else walked in, we moved aside and let them know to go ahead of us. It took a couple of minutes to get everyone's orders together then I approached the cashier. She saw me approach, waved me over, rolled her eyes and looked back to shout something to the kitchen. For about 20-30 seconds I stood there while she continued shouting to the kitchen. Restaurant was reasonably busy, I didn't mind waiting but I didn't care for how nonchalantly she turned her attention away from me without any "give me a second". Even after ordering $100 worth of food and plenty of pleases and thank you's, her attitude didn't change. She clearly wasn't interested in our business. I get it, a big group of Chinese tourists have a reputation of being a nuisance but we've proven ourselves courteous. The least you can do is treat us with the same respect. The food was decent, hence the two stars. The fully loaded tacos were indeed fully loaded with plenty of meats, and complimentaries. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. It really took multiple visits for me to appreciate this taqueria. Their carne asada burrito always hits that spot. Free chips n salsa bar is always clean n refilled. We aren't talking nasty stale chips either, they are always fresh n crispy. Aguas frescas from here are refreshing too and never too watery. Had catering from here before and it was super basic. So many good Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area, so little time to eat at all of them . . . This one is on the outskirts of Southland Mall, in one of the standalone buildings to the west. And it has that low-priced Mexican restaurant look, and I found that the food matches up too. Family lunch, they had just flown back from Texas, and they needed a place to rest their arms from all that flapping. The time was 11:30, but their tummies said that the time is 1:30, so they were slightly hangry! This was the place on my list of possibles that was closest to OAK, and very close to 880, so here we went. I had a combo plate of enchilada and taco with chorizo, the hunny had regular enchilada, and the girl had cheese quesadilla. The quesadilla looked big, but it was so good that the girl ate it all. The hunny enjoyed hers too. I loved the chorizo, but didn't say "no sour cream or avocado" because they put it on the side. When the sour cream was all over one side of the taco, I knew I had made a mistake. They also put the lettuce and tomato on the side, so if you'd rather not have it with the taco (or you can't eat it), then you're not stuck with it. Total hit = just over $30. And as usual, I was the only one who didn't get filled up. Los Pericos didn't stand out as one of the best Mexican restaurants I've had. But it certainly is a winner. read more
