Luckily, yesterday we were able to get seats at the bar and finally try one of their famous "tablas". Gandarío is not really a touristy spot, so there is no English menu and the menu for the tablas is a bit confusing, but you basically have the choice between getting just french fries or french fries and meat with different types of sauces. The bartender will hand you a slip of paper and you select which sauces and type of meats you would like. The bartender highly recommended the pork fillet (cruceta de cerdo ibérico), so we tried that with chimichurri, aioli, Gandarío, and the mojo picón (spicy mojo sauce) sauces. When we got our food, we were really pleased that there was such a nice meat to french fry ratio, as we expected that it would be mostly french fries. The meat was nicely seasoned and went very well with all of the sauces. Although all of the sauces were tasty, the aioli and Gandarío were by far our favorites. We had been planning on ordering something else after the meat plate, but it was more than enough for us. Overall, I highly recommend Gandarío and will definitely be back!

What an amazing find and a fun night in Madrid!…read more Tapas y Fotos is in an up and coming artist neighborhood in Madrid that is similar to what is happening on the LES in NYC. It is a small wonderfully decorated bar with pictures that the owner has taken over the years of various musicians. The menu, gotta love this! All dishes are prepared byMiguel Pérez Pardo, the owner, bartender, photographer and all around great guy! We met wonderful people at this restaurant/tapas bar especially a woman name Teresa who lives next door. She is an absolute angel and is a wonderful representation of the warmth of the Madrellanos. We had wonderful beer on tap, and several dishes: Carmelita peas, hortelano chicken, delicious salmorejo, papas and bacon quiche. You can order Tapa size or a full size portion. I recommend ful size on the chicken and the quiche is only one size. Our first night in Madrid and Tapas y Fotos provided a warm, fun, delicious evening off the usual touristy traps, I highly recommend you give it a try but remember to bring a Spanish/English dictionary as Miguel speaks no English.

They sat us on a four top first, but then told us we couldn't sit there because it was reserved. They took our drink order, gave us some peanuts and then nothing. We sat for 25 min, I had to waive our server over. They weren't even busy, literally just standing there at the entrance. And then when he asked us do you want to pay and we said no we want to order. He told us to hold up and went inside to bring out a pen and paper. Ummm shouldn't you be prepared already? Then when we were ordering, we ordered the lasagna. And he asked us what kind. Problem is there is only one lasagna dish on the entire menu so why would he ask us what kind. So I pointed it out on the menu. Then we asked for two entrees and he asked if we were sure we wanted two. Which again, weird question. Then a man approached and told us that we wouldn't have room on our table for the two entrees and tapas and moved us to the original table that was supposedly reserved. The lasagna was not good at all, it tasted like one of those cheap tv dinners. When she brought out meals, she knocked over the peanuts and didn't even bother to sweep them off the table. The other patrons that were seated after us were attended to right away and even when they sat down they asked them if they wanted bread which they never offered us. Didn't make us feel great at all. Avoid avoid avoid!! Edit: Not once after eating did they check up on us. We've been waiting about 45 min for the check

We got to sit at a table that was in the window frame, so that was pleasant - to be outside but not at the same time. Anyway, we both got crepes...and unfortunately, they were a disappointment though the plating was nice. The crepes were very thin and crispy (not my preference). The spinach inside was not wilted, so it made it messy to eat. The flavors were alright, but compared to ones I've had in France or even the US..it just fell flat.
