Whole Fried tilapia, rice and salad
Kathleen A.

The ambiance was good lively and packed. The service was fine but the waiter failed to tell me the bogo on drinks was per person (I'm not a habitual alcohol drinker). The margarita classes were big and a waste of my money. He didn't The food look good and tastes fine. I ordered a whole fried tilapia. The portions were large enough to take home. When I got home and open up my fish I saw the gills. I've never seen or been served whole fish with gills in my life! I can't unsee this. Fried gills!

Very good Mexican food. Had margaritas first. Need to order an extra shot in mine next time because it was very light on the alcohol. Had the Mexican tacos. Very tasty and authentic style. Lime, skirt steak and white onion, cilantro and hot sauce (very hot) on the side. Soft corn tortillas full of steak. Jen had the pork carnitas bowl. Perfect mix of pork, rice and beans, Cheese etc. Large portions. Not real loud which is perfect for Mom since she is 90 and mostly hard of hearing. The pictures are of the tacos and the bowl. Love the place and will go back for sure. Can't go wrong if you love Mexican food. Service was fast and furious. Nothing wrong with that. 5 Stars next time if I get extra tequila in my margarita. lol

SHUT DOWN! RATS AND BUGS!

We come here fairly often and the service is always great. We were sat fairly quickly and were seen by our server within a few minutes of sitting down. We ordered a Passion fruit margarita on the rocks, which was delicious! We also got some guacamole for the table, which they make table side so it's super fresh and yummy! I got the combo appetizer as my meal because I got a little bit of everything, which I highly enjoy. It comes with ground beef nachos, a quesadilla, and a chicken taquito. My mom got a carne asada platter, and my husband did one of the combo dinner platters available. Their dinner combos are super versatile and a great bargain! That's normally what I do when I come here.

Our go to Mexican restaurant. The portion sizes are huge. Endless chips and salsa to begin is a plus but don't fill up because your meal will be huge. Everything we have had there has been yummy. Creamy refried beans. Really seasoned meats. Everything is great here.

First time visit and enjoyed it all . They made guacamole in front of us so very fresh . Chips were excellent as was the salsa . Two kinds of salsa , one hot , I had queso chicken with sauté veggies . Very good Wife had hard shell tacos but this place has ground beef so we jumped on it for tacos . Nice atmosphere and good service

There were so many times I've been in that shopping center and passed los Agaves and never made the effort to go inside. That was definitely my mistake. Last night I went with a friend and we had a very, very memorable and delicious meal. The restaurant wasn't as crowned asWe sat down, but by the time our food came, it was quite busy. In fact, I believe almost every table was taken. The wait staff there are absolutely amazing. Super friendly and considerate. Eating that was an absolute pleasure. The menu was not too large and not too small. Many options available for any kind of eater. We had the large combo appetizer and honestly that would've been enough for dinner, It was so big. My Carne Asada burrito was scrumptious and overflowing with delicious steak. But the pièce de résistance was by far, the Mexican ice cream for dessert. For me, it was a memory back to my childhood days of eating at Chi chi's. The large ball of ice cream was crispy and covered in, I don't know what it was covered in actually, but there was chocolate sauce and strawberry sauce and whipped cream and it was a fried sweet delicious ball of yumminess. I will have to come back to Los Agave's again and I recommend that you do as well.

Yelp offers updated Food inspection reports for those who want to know
Wendy B.

This updated review is in response to the owner with his reply that my personal review (which I place a high level of standards on myself to be factual and share my personal experience honestly) I posted that my food (Meat in the Mexican pizza specifically) was cold / Luke warm and that it would most likely have not passed if a food inspector went. The owner replied that "I found your last comments to be in poor taste and most undoubtedly unfactual and unnecessary." I would not post something that I did not experience, and every thing in my review was mentioned as being necessary (This is, after all, my review) For anyone who ever has questions Yelp will post the latest food inspection reports as well as you can retrieve from Tallahassee website. But since the owner chose to say I was lying, I have attached the 2 last reports.

The food and service are excellent, with quick and efficient service. The prices are great, making it a fantastic value for a delicious dining experience.

Where has this gem been? I clearly missed it. I mean it's rare that I come out to the Royal Palm area. The margaritas frozen or not were buy one get one free, score! The service was great, our server was so much fun, he checked in on us often, he def made sure our food was prepared the way we asked. So all of us took our food home as the portions were a lot or it could be we drank to many frozen drinks lol. The place stayed busy from what we saw. We spent about 4 hours there that night.

Food was mediocre. I really wanted to like I but couldn't even finish it. The steak I had was not well seasoned, full of fat and tough.

The Mexican rice, was one of the best I've had. I will be going here more then I probably should, lol. Definitely would tell others to try this place.

Came here because of all the positive reviews. I am honestly so disappointed with both the food and…read morethe service. PapiChulo is a Tex mex like restaurant with a focus on tacos and drinks. The menu was unique and had a few taco options I haven't seen before like gator tacos and had at least a couple of fish tacos which was nice for variety. So I was excited to try them. Unfortunately that's where the positives stop. We stopped in and the hostess put us on a waitlist for a 20-40 min. wait. There was no room to sit anywhere (no benches to sit at to wait for our table), and no where to even stand. We got in fairly quickly despite the wait, and now I can see why after dining there. Our waitress Ariel was off the bat sarcastic and rude. She was slow to get back to our table and seemed to not care about serving us and like she didn't want to be there. My mom was having a hard time with the menu and she seemed to be patronizing instead of helpful from her tone of voice and general attitude. Service was so slow we had to ask 3 different servers to get our server Ariel in order to order food, get our missing condiments, and eventually wait for 20 minutes to get our check until the bartender just cashed us out (we were not sitting at the bar). I understand they may have been understaffed which is a problem with the restaurant, but her being rude and sarcastic made us feel uncomfortable, and hesitant to ask for what we needed. The food I would say was incredibly mediocre at best and tasted really low quality at the worst. This is clearly one of those places where people come for the drinks and cheap food, and not the quality of the cuisine. We shared the trio tortilla chip combo which came with salsa, queso, and guacamole. The salsa had absolutely no spice at all, which some people like but it wasn't for me. The green salsa was like the generic tomatillo sauce from the grocery store, and my sister commented that the red salsa tasted almost like ketchup. The guacamole was ok but didn't taste fresh. The queso tasted of a generic white processed cheese with little to no flavor. For me I had the tres taco platter which comes with three tacos of your choice plus rice and black beans. I chose the gator taco which has queso fresco, radishes, a scallion tamarind glaze, and green crema. The gator was a bit chewy, was a little too sweet for me and the green crema was more like a aioli than a true authentic crema. Next I had the Tulum fish taco which had a blue corn tortilla, crispy fried mahi, chipotle mayo, slaw, and black garlic sauce. I liked that it had a blue corn tortilla, and the fish was ok. The only sauce that I really enjoyed was the chipotle mayo. The black garlic sauce was terrible. Lastly, I had the Baja fish taco which had a blue corn tortilla, grilled local mahi, avocado, crispy onions, chipotle mayo cilantro, and tamazula hot sauce. The mahi was overcooked and had little to no flavor by itself. The hot sauce was unique and tasty. It had a good combination of things and would have been great had the fish been cooked well which it wasn't. The rice had no flavor at all, and the beans were watery and unappetizing. My husband got the Gringo Freedom taco which had ground beef, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream, and lettuce on a hard shell. The taco shell was stale and the beef tasted worse than fast food meat and was sweet for some reason. The quality was horrible. He also got the carne asada taco which came with skirt steak, queso fresco, cilantro, peppers, radishes, and cabbage. I really wanted to like this one, but unfortunately the steak quality was akin to canned meat. I ordered the yucca fries which didn't have any salt on them. These were ok, but I wish they had some salt. The sauces all came out on a platter and we had to ask which ones went with which tacos as we had never been there before and weren't aware of the look of them. Our waitress when we finally got ahold of her, patronized us for even asking about them and didn't explain them all prompting us to reread the menu on our phones and guess. They don't serve any drinks but alcohol, tap water and soda. So if you want something healthy to drink look elsewhere. The waitress seemed annoyed that I didn't order alcohol (I don't drink), and when I asked about bottled water she said she wasn't sure but they ran out two weeks ago and thought they stopped serving it entirely. The menu was unique and seemed to have a good idea, however between the quality of the food, the blandness of the flavors, and the lack of attention from staff, it wasn't a well executed plan. TLDR: PapiChulo is a Tex Mex like non authentic taco place that caters to drinkers with cheap, low quality and bland food with a deceptively unique menu. The service is both slow and incredibly rude. For these reasons I definitely can't recommend it. I won't be coming back.
