The ambiance is an elevated British pub, with cute "afternoon tea style" porcelain plates, wooden or tiled floors, and dark but lively interior. The service was also polite and attentive. The main draw is the food, though! The menu is split into small dishes, medium dishes and large dishes: we had one large and three smalls, which was a good amount of food. TLDR: you get what you come for! Very classic British style elevated pub food and absolutely delicious at that. Would 100% come back for the burger and dessert next time. SETTING: found a 5:30pm reservation the night before for a Friday. Read that they only serve 12 off menu burgers and knew we needed to try it - so showed up at 5:15pm. It was a bit early and no one else showed up until about 5:25, but there was a small line formed before doors opened. We were led inside by a nice hostess who seated us right away. The ambiance is an elevated, classic, pub style with dark wood and a beautiful bar. We got to sit in a little booth - there are seats at the bar for walk ins and multiple other tables. Really nice for friends, smaller groups, dates, etc. FOOD: We ordered a lot of food including oysters kilPatrick, the grilled quail with pickled cherries on toast, heirloom tomato salad with smoked eel, duck pie, scotch and infamous burger which they only serve 12 of! We also got the blueberry crumble for dessert. Ordered way too much food but managed to shove down everything other than the duck pie which we brought home and ate the next day. All of the food was fantastic but the standouts were the burger (pretzel bun, 8oz burger, with beer cheese) which was perfectly cooked, just the right amount of salty and cheesy with fresh onions which I love. It was well worth going earlier and waiting for this burger!! And the heirloom tomato salad was so fresh, delicious and unique with the smoked eel I would order again! SERVICE: service was smooth and great, everyone was very helpful and nice. Just the right amount of times checked in on and never felt rushed even when they got pretty busy towards the end of our night (7ish). Unfortunately had a sub par experience. My son was in town and we drove from the burbs for a Sat night dinner in the city. Could have gone anywhere but wanted to try the burger at Lords. Turns out they only make a limited supply nightly. Wasn't aware of that (maybe a me thing but I am aware of similar limited spots like Raoul's and Rolo's). So bummed off the bat. Decided the next best thing would be a short rib pie for 2. Just as we were about to order the waitress came over to tell us they were also out of those. Welp, so much for a special night out. I guess it happens, but it was still a disappointment for a special occasion. The other offerings were fine, but certainly could have just stayed in the area. I went to this popular English bistro from the same people as Dame a couple evenings ago with one of my usual groups. The service was friendly and the inside was sparse but inviting. To drink I had one of the Tart Vinegar Shrubs for $12 which is either flavored with Herbes Vertes or Rose Sour Cherry and I ordered the latter. The rose was mild and the cherry flavor was a bit stronger but not by much so it tasted mostly of vinegar reminding me of a GT drink more than anything so I wouldn't recommend it. The menu here is seasonal and there was a Welsh Rarebit Burger as a special (for $26.) Otherwise we ordered a bunch of dishes to share with 2 of the bar bites (as described by the waitress,) 2 small plates/appetizers, and 2 of the entrees (or should I say mains) along with a dessert/pudding at the end. We split 2 orders of these dishes among 4 people each and left pretty hungry with a couple standouts and a couple not so good dishes. The best of the tiny plates was the Curried Lamb Scotch Egg for $15. I presume said curried lamb was the very well flavored lamb sausage surrounding the nice and jammy egg. This was split into two pieces and it was worth it. Definitely worse and just not worth it was the Grilled Scallop & Green Garlic Butter for $14. This consisted of one scallop which was tiny and not particularly sweet in a barely garlic flavored butter. The fact they charge the same price for one tiny scallop as places either serving much larger scallops or better flavored scallops just irks me a bit and I have been to several places which grill them better as well. Of the small plates, the best dish and probably the best dish of the night was the Grilled Morels With Wild Garlic & Nettle Hollandaise for $24. The morels had a wonderful bouncy texture and great flavor and the garlic was fried which added extra crisp. The slightly creamy hollandaise paired well with the rich morels. The portion size was also pretty decent especially for these expensive mushrooms. Slightly salty but overall excellent. The other one; the Cured Trout, Cucumber & Dill for $21; was good. The trout had a light smokiness with a good texture and paired well with the crunchy sliced cucumber and dill sauce which was quite dark. This was also one of the few dishes that didn't have too much salt. Of the two mains, the best if you don't count the chips alone was the Rabbit Pie With Pancetta, Swiss Chard & Mustard for $42. This was also laying on a light soupy sauce which tasted vaguely of mushrooms. The rabbit itself was tender though it was kind of hard to tell exactly what meat it was and the chard added some nice bitterness. The dish was a little bit salty presumably from the layer of pancetta but overall was pretty tasty and would be filling enough for a main dish. They previously had a duck pie which sounded much more appealing and flavorful. Less successful and the worst dish of the night (outside of the chips) was the Sirloin Steak & Chips With Green Peppercorns for $45. The sirloin was on the small end being probably 8 or 10 oz I presume and they didn't ask about cooking temp for the steak and it came out on the rarer end of medium rare. While I don't mind this at all with this being my preference, the steak itself was very chewy with a lot of sinew with some others thinking this was a skirt steak due to it's chewiness. The peppercorn sauce was light and lacked the richness I usually associate with an au poivre. Of course the chips/fries with the steak were excellent and the best part. They came with some type of tasty aioli sauce though I presume you can also ask for malt vinegar. They were probably double cooked and they had the perfect texture and I honestly would order these even though they are $12 solely if they don't come with one of your dishes to split or have alone. Another person ordered the burger as they were still hungry and they still had them surprisingly. He gave me a bit and the sauce was excellent although I didn't get much of the actual patty but I can see why it's popular. For dessert, we opted for the Strawberry & Elderflower Choux Bun for $14. The presentation was nice with the cut-up sweet bun having a scoop of ice cream with fresh berries. The bun itself was good reminding me a bit of a melon pan/concha with it's sweetness and had a pleasant texture and the fruit was good. However, the ice cream which presumably was the elderflower flavored part only tasted of vanilla. It was okay in short. The food here was okay and definitely on the saltier end. Some dishes were worth it and other dishes were just not good and for the price point, I would prefer the food be more consistent. If the food was cheaper and especially if the steak was good, I'd give them a 3.5/3.6 but with the price point, 3.3/3.4 is more accurate. If I was to ever go back, I'd likely order the burger if available as well as the fries and leave happy. read more

I had a reservation to come here last week for an anniversary. No problems there. The place was brighter than I had expected for a "pub-type" atmosphere but that's on me for not doing better recon. There were metal bars on the back of the booths and people on both sides were resting their arms on these bars right next to my head, and an elbow next to my partner's head just made me anxious but again, not the restaurant's fault their patrons are rude. At first the waitress was lovely. Very energetic, asked us if we knew what we wanted or if we wanted to hear the specials which I appreciated. Things went downhill when the first plate arrived. I love a good scotch egg and was surprised the sausage layer was so dry. My partner liked it though. Next course was a salad-- or what we hoped would be a salad but was actually more like a humiliation ritual. Whole leaves of what was supposed to be escarole but was actually a Luisa Chicory, very pretty but hardly dressed. The sheep's cheese was very good but in such thin slices that it was hard to get any flavor. The adorable little tea plates were not up to the challenge of this giant pile of hard bitter dry leaves. I was using a knife and fork to cut bites and it was popping off everywhere and flying all over the table. Zero stars for that salad, I wanted to cry with frustration. Even a wedge is served with a steak knife and an appropriately sized plate. I ordered their take on a martini to try something new. They use an oil instead of an olive which was beautiful but the flavors weren't for me so I asked for a "proper Gibson" for my second drink. This is where the service turned. I swear I didn't mean to be rude, I thought being clear and ordering what you want was a good thing but the waitress seemed very offended and after this was short and snappy with us. Maybe I was upset and had sounded sharper than I intended to but I was already very upset with the salad and bothered that she hadn't checked up on us to see how we liked it or ask if we needed anything (like a larger plate and a better knife to tackle the pile of firm undressed leaves). I'm sorry if I was sharp but I don't think I was that rude. Then the main was served. I ordered the special: a bland pork chop that was half fat (tho very nice around the bone) with a burnt tasting pan sauce, onions, and some polenta that was 90% pure butter. My partner liked their steak, it was very well seared while being perfectly medium rare, but hates sauce and the steak was like a boat afloat in a sea of sauce (a very good peppercorn sauce but I'm the sauce lover in the relationship). The chips were steak cut, not bad, served with a mayo and a horseradish cream. The mayo was fine if not a little buttery but there was no horseradish flavor in the horseradish cream and the texture was very thin. Our server was also weird with the check but that's another story. It was just an odd experience to feel that much rage emanating from a person when we ordered enough to make the table worth it and never made a complaint. It is possible we loudly talked about what a miserable experience we were having but we had to make jokes about that "salad" or else I would have cried. Overall we decided it's possible we just don't like British food that much. Glad I tried something new. Wish I had read more of the one and two star reviews before coming here on a special night. What was so refreshing about Lord's was the interesting and different dining options available. So many restaurants are offing a fish, chicken, meat and vegetarian list. That is not the case here. If I stopped here every day for a week (wouldn't that be nice?) I could have a different meal and be sure it was as delicious. The Curried Lamb Scotch Egg was crunchy, savory and tasty with an intoxicating whiff of curry. The Rabbit Pie was remarkable. The Rabbit was mixed with pancetta, wrapped in Chard and mustard and baked within a beautiful crust. The rich, mushroom cream base was a perfect complement. I loved this dish. Was able to snag an early res to Lord's, which is essential because they only sell 12 burgers a night so you have to get there early if you want one. Pretty much every table in the first seating ordered one -- with one table of four each ordering one for themselves. The food was pretty good, but I wouldn't say anything particularly wowed me. The oysters kilpatrick were good, as were the sirloin steak and fries. The burger was good, but it comes with a really thick slice of raw onion so beware. I liked the sticky ginger sponge cake too. I wasn't that big of a fan of the scotch egg or the duck pie, and I think the bread and butter was not worth paying for. Overall it was a lovely restaurant, very cozy space with great ambiance. I was lucky enough to be able to try the Lord's burger last night after seeing so many rave reviews about it, and it did not disappoint! The meat was very juicy and flavorful and cooked perfectly. The bun was delightfully buttery, and the cheese melted perfectly on top! All in all, a delectable blend of flavors. The triple cooked fries had an amazing texture of crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. They were served with mayo for dipping, not fancy but oh so good. We also got the rarebit - it was my first time trying rarebit so I don't necessarily have a point of comparison there but I did enjoy it! I was super excited to try Lord's after seeing a bunch of good reviews and seeing pictures of the food. The spot was dark and intimate. It kind of reminded me of a dark green study, giving Slytherin. The servers were all really sweet. As for food, we ordered the Scotch egg to start, of course. This dish was both beautiful and yummy, protein wrapped and even more protein. Next we got the truffle mushrooms. The stickers on the lighter side, featuring trumpet mushrooms, covered in a creamy truffly sauce. Moving onto mains, we ordered the cod. This was probably both my boyfriend's and my favorite dish of the night. The cod was crisp and sat atop a sea of green creamy sauce with seafood elements inside. We also ordered the duck pie, which was lighter than I expected. The pie crust was thin which I enjoyed and the duck was a hearty potion. However, I thought the sauce was a tad too light and found myself dipping the pie in the cod sauce. Lord's is a British restaurant, one of few in the city, and would assume the best. We shared a number of dishes between 3 people: scotch egg, crispy pig head, pork and black truffle pie, chips, and the BURGER. We had a 6pm reservation and we're able to snag one of the coveted 12 they have per night upon arrival. We had the option to order 2 and not doing so was a mistake. Perfectly cooked, tasty beef, creamy cheese, fresh onion. Simple but a perfect combo. One of the best, if not my favorite in the city. Everything else was good too, though will say portions are on the smaller side. Nothing I wouldn't happily eat again, but the burger is what will bring me back. Scotch egg was also very memorable. I've been here a few times since this place opened in 2022 and I think tonight was the best meal here yet. That's impressive -- I'm used to the quality starting to fall after a year or two, but Lord's is really proving themselves as a linchpin of NY dining. DO NOT SLEEP on the mushrooms with hollandaise - this was excellent. Also exceptional was the poached cod with beans, leeks and pistou. The flavors were so perfect and everything was cooked perfectly. The vaunted burger was good, but came to us rather cold, and that kind of ruined things, but it was still a decent burger (I will not be abandoning my post at Red Hook Tavern anytime soon for this one tho) and the chips we ordered alongside it were the platonic ideal of fried potato. I wanted to love Lord's as much as I adore Dame, but I found it to be just okay. The service is just as stellar: warm, friendly, attentive, but the food, mostly, does not live up to the hype. The oysters at Dame slay, so we knew we had to get some of these... But wish we had known that we really didn't. The guanciale was a nice touch, but the dressing was way too vinegary. On to the scotch egg. We enjoyed the crispy texture of the shell juxtaposed with the luxe creaminess of the yolks. However, someone hit the salt a little too hard. The crispy pork terrine was better and we thoroughly enjoyed it, though the endives that came with it were way overdressed. The star of the show was the one thing not officially on the menu: a limited edition Rarebit burger. The kitchen only makes 12 of these a night so snag one and pair it with some proper chips. The burger was huge, juicy, and came on a perfect pretzel bun. Greasily delicious, it will fill you up for sure. In our case, it was the death nell for our dessert dreams because we could not stomach another bite we were so full. Outdoor seating was spacious and well distanced on the in-street patio, a little cosier on the sidewalk. Wheelchair access details: the patio and street dining are both accessible, though the white tables on the patio are more wheelchair friendly. There is a step to go in, but I saw a small section of paved ramp next to it to another door. The door near the ramp is blocked by a table, however. I'm not sure whether there is another portable ramp to get wheelchair users inside or not. I didn't need to go in but my friend said that the bathroom had accessibility features like grab bars but may be small for some chairs. read more

Came here for an early dinner as a walk in. They offered us bar seating even-though the whole time we were there, there were tables available in the main dining room. I was asked my phone number before being seated "in case I leave anything in the restaurant"..I declined and thought it was a strange request. They have a non alcoholic menu which I love! I got an amaro soda. And then we sat for over 30 minutes waiting for the food. My friend ordered duck pie and apparently it takes long to make it..which I think should've been mentioned as we were ordering it. We would've gotten small plates to start instead of sitting empty handed for a long time. My striped bass was delicious but I don't think I will order the panzanella again. The tomato skins were taking away from the texture and the crab smelled fishy. It made me wonder if it was fresh. My friend loved the duck pie so it was worth the wait. Apricot sorbet meringue was also amazing! The decor was beautifully done. I love the color palette, the wallpaper, fixtures and the wood finishes. Everything! They don't make any more. So not many people know about it. The cooked oysters were interesting. Not my cup of tea but something different to try. I now know that I prefer raw oysters. The scallops were amazing! I also had some kind of meat in a pie. I can't remember what it's called but that was very delicious and homey. Dessert was my favorite part. The interior space isn't huge so I wouldn't recommend for huge groups, not that it's not doable. Service was good, there wasn't anything that was above and beyond, but the server did come up to ask how the food is and refill our glasses of water. Now onto the food... I personally really enjoyed the chips, the curried lamb scotch eggs, and the smoked trout. Both were very good although not mind blowing. My least favorite was the duck stuffed cabbage; actually let me reiterate - I really disliked that dish. Personally for me, maybe it's not within my acquired taste but it was just not enjoyable to eat. Overall I would give it a try if you haven't yet but I probably wouldn't be dying to come back. Sister of the restaurant Dame, Lord's is an excellent choice for upscale English food. While their menu changes from time to time, I would always recommend getting pig or pork related like the pig terrine or pork chop (or both). The pies have been delicious every time that I've come (such as the corned beef and cabbage pie). The scotch eggs are a must, the scallops are refreshing (but smaller portion) and of course the desserts (such as the sticky toffee pudding ice cream) are incredible. The cocktail choices and wine are great too, the ambiance is dimly lit but comfortable and the service is really top notch. Very friendly service and I would highly recommend this restaurant! Food-wise, our favorite was the scotch egg with a yogurt sauce. We got here early to snag a burger (they only make a limited amount each night.) It was cooked well and we loved the layer of onion, but it was so greasy and my husband felt a little nauseous later from it. It was definitely an over hyped burger in my opinion. The fries were good and perfectly crisp and went well with the dipping sauce. We also had mixed feelings about the rabbit pie. The pastry part was really good and flaky, but we didn't love the filling and felt there was some sort of odd aftertaste. We ordered the scotch eggs, crispy pigs head and black pudding, duck stuffed cabbage with clapshot, pie of the day, and "proper" chips. If one is not accustomed to cuts of meat that aren't conventionally served in the US or blood sausages, or the idea of that just irks you, I don't suggest the pig's head and black pudding. I thought that the black pudding was spiced well and the pig's head was really crispy. I quite enjoyed the butter beans they were served on. I think of these dishes, my favorites were the proper chips which were proper indeed, the pie (although I thought the Stilton was a tad too strong), and the clapshot from the stuffed cabbage dish. Also, the bread and butter we ordered was so moist and crispy I would want this everyday. For dessert we ordered the queen of puddings, and Guinness chocolate cake. The queen of puddings was so good I would return just for that. Favorite dessert of the year (so far). To be honest, I'm still not the biggest fan of British food but I'm giving 5 stars for the overall experience and I think this was a great introduction. I was excited to try Lord's, a restaurant chosen by a good friend who I frequently dine with . It was her turn and she wanted to try something new . British food unlike other European food ( french , Italian , spanish to name a few ) isn't known for their food . It was a nice surprise that this restaurant elevated British cuisine. Just a lovely experience for dinner. This is British food with a touch of panache, especially the duck pie (essentially a duck Wellington) which is a revelation unto itself. Be prepared for lots of sharing around the extra crispy exterior (and silky smooth interior) chips, the scotch egg and any number of mouth watering choices on the menu. Food: 6/10 Service: 8/10 Ambience: 7/10 We ordered: - oysters kilpatrick - grilled scallop & green garlic butter - curried lamb scotch egg - grilled morels, wild garlic & nettle hollandaise - sirloin steak & chips with green peppercorns We were disappointed because they ran out of their famous burgers by 5:40pm even though they opened at 5:30pm. We felt like everything EXCEPT the sirloin steak was pretty good (7-8/10). The lamb scotch egg was something I'd enjoy trying once. The scallop and morels were our favorite but in the end we're paying $24 for mushrooms and $14 for 1 buttery piece of scallop... We waited for the sirloin steak maybe ~30 minutes after we finished the other dishes. It was extremely chewy and basically inedible to me. I only had a few bites because I was so hungry. My date didn't eat anything that day and barely finished the steak. He had stomach issues after dinner... I would recommend Lord's for the appetizers if you don't mind paying the price. My dining standards have been raised after eating here. Their kitchen delivers quality. Excellent cooking and reasonable bills for generous portions. Restaurant staff provide excellent service while understanding their menu. My genuine impression is this place is exceptional. read more

Back here for a second visit and had a wonderful meal again. I was hoping to try their famous burger this time but unfortunately it was already sold out by then (6pm reservation). Aside from the Scotch egg and Crispy pig's head that I'd tried and loved last time, I really enjoyed the Stuffed cabbage and Guinness chocolate cake. Everything was on point. Service was friendly and attentive. It was pretty busy when we arrived - I assume people come early to snag the burger. I'll have to make sure to get here as soon as they open next time! read more
