When you're 39 weeks pregnant and craving empanadas! The beef, spinach and cheese, spicy asada, and mushroom empanadas all hit the spot. And the filling is generous and not overly salted. The space is small, but plenty of parking across the street by the old train station.

Decided to try a Birria empanada and Breakfast empanada w/ chorizo. I absolutely loved how crispy and stuffed both of these empanadas were! It is always such a disappointment when place give you soggy tasting empanadas. The spicy chimichurri was more like hot sauce and neither of us enjoyed it. However, we loved their regular chimichurri! The breakfast one was better than I expected, but it didn't taste like there was chorizo in it. We think they may have accidentally given us soychorizo instead. The birria empanada was really flavorful and had great quality meat. However, the consomme was bland and didn't add much to the overall flavor. I ended up getting a local pastry beer from here, which I didn't like and was insanely sweet. However, it did kinda taste like a marionberry pie, which was impressive. 3.5 overall. I wouldn't say it's top 100 worthy, but it's not disappointing.

Lord Empanada stays winning. Came back for a second visit and grabbed a dozen empanadas with six different flavors--perfect for mixing it up. The beef is just as good as I remembered--savory and satisfying. The birria is deeply flavored with a nice smoky richness. Spicy asada has a great zing to it, and the steak stays tender. The mushroom filling is creamy and earthy, the spinach is cheesy and comforting, and the chicken alfredo is rich, buttery, and melts in your mouth. Brought them to work the next day to share, and they still held up incredibly well. Everyone loved them--definitely a crowd-pleaser. Safe to say this spot is consistently delivering.

The spinach is my new favorite!! We come here all the time since we live so close. My only complaint would be they're always so busy and it's hard to find somewhere to sit but other than that everyone working is always so nice and the service is great.

Tried a dozen empanadas here and no regrets. (I think you do have to buy 2 min for each chosen flavor for the dozen.) Singles are about $3.95 while the dozen is $42 before tax. I'm basic and liked the mushroom the most, but be sure to eat this one warm so the cheese and mushrooms blend in just right. Don't forget to dip in the spicy salsa sauce and house made chimichurri! All the beef flavors hit the spot too: Reg. beef - had raisins but didn't taste them besides some hints of sweetness Birria - came with consomme Spicy asada - just like the taco but not spicy imo. Also tried the chicken Alfredo (white meat), and spinach and cheese (had unique herbs added, maybe fennel?), and the mixed berry cheesecake (good but can get a bit dense). p.s. Lord Empanada seems to be going though some construction/remodeling atm so parking can be limited to the street. But there's a public parking lot diagonally across the street.

This place deserves more business fr ! tucked away on the side of a busy road, parking is pretty bad but there's plenty of free parking around the area and you can walk across the street towards. This place is sooo good! I'd definitely recommend getting their empanadas (emphasis in the name). They have a pretty good deal with buy 10 for $42 so great to split with a bigger party. Each one was so good and flavorful. the service was just as good, very friendly! I'll be dreaming of this place

Background On Visit: I've drove by this place many times on my way to old town Monrovia, but never tried their food until last Friday. Credit Card: They're accepted. Restroom: There's a small restroom is in the back of the shop. Location/Parking: Located between E. Evergreen and E. Pomona Ave. on S. Myrtle Ave.. Parking situation is a bit tough, but you can park along Pomona Ave.. Ambiance/Decor: Doesn't really look nice from the outside, but it gets better when you step into the shop. Neat ambiance with modern furnishings Service: Tonya was very nice, attentive, friendly, informative, and offered great suggestions. Empanada Of Choice: Had two empanada's ($3.95 each). The beef and the spring roll. Loved how it wasn't dense as other empanadas that I've tried at other places. The crust was crunchy and flakey. Their housemade chimichurri sauce was quite good also. They include 2 for every 2 empanadas. If you want more, it will cost you extra. Dessert Of Choice: Got the Triple Berry Cheesecake. Thought it was very good. Cheesecake lovers will defintely love them. Lord Empanada For Thought: Would love to come back to try their beef stroganoff ($20), Choripan or Tri-tip sandwiches, or other empanadas.

We came in to Lord Empanada to redeem our deals from the SGV passport. The offer was for buy any 6 empanadas get 6 free. An insanely good deal! I was excited to finally come here and try these empanadas. The location is on a busy street and parking is very limited. The alley is tiny and fits maybe 5-6 spots at best. Location has a handful of booths for dining and complimentary water. They sell their Chimichurri in a jar for anyone interested. The staff here were amazing. So very friendly and accommodating. I appreciated the time to answer all our questions and explaining our redemptions. Since we could order a dozen total we ordered pretty much what they had to offer that day. We saved $20 in total and the dozen empanadas came in a cool pizza box which each empanada in a labeled sleeve. All sauces were inside such as the chimi and birria consume + a hot sauce. They were deliciously addicting! Each of them was so unique with flavors. You can't go wrong with any choices. Their chimichurri pairs well. I loved the crispy edges and flakiness in each bite. Lord Empanda's style of empanada is one of a kind and memorable. If I had to pick a few favorites after the one visit. I enjoyed the Birria, Beef and Pizza. We're coming back again at some point to try more. They live up to their hype and high ratings! This is a MUST TRY in the SGV! Thanks, Lord Empanada! ( ^_^)b

Pizza , Chicken and Soychorizo filled Empanadas

I really like empanadas for a variety of reasons. They can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert or for a snack between meals. Lord Empanada has perfected their selection. Not only for empanadas, but they have a full breakfast menu, sandwiches, and pasta too. This was my first visit, I ordered a variety of empanadas: Pizza (pepperoni, mozzarella and marinara sauce), Soyrizo (vegan), Chicken Breast with secret sauce, and Pumpkin Cheesecake (topped with a drizzle of caramel and powdered sugar). The size is perfect, full of flavor, I don't know which I liked the best. I can see why they are so popular. I bookmarked this place for a future visit to try their Chili Verde or Grilled Chicken Club, they also have loaded Chili Verde Fries on the menu (I'm drooling just thinking of this combination). This is a nice family owned and operated business. You can dine in, take out or delivery service is available. The average price is $4 each or you can order a dozen for $48. Sincerely, Rosemary

Had no idea about Lord Empanada until I got the invite for the recent Yelp Elite Event. But hey, I'm always in the mood for a good empanada! Ordered the beef, chicken, and birria empanadas. The dough was crispy on the outside, but flaky on the inside. Had plenty of meat inside as well. Liked them all, but I definitely liked the birria the most. Even came with a side of consome! Very good. Staff here are very friendly. Parking situation however is quite dire. I wasn't about to try and parallel park in this narrow corridor of a driveway, so I ended up parking on the street. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

03/31/26 I am so shocked with the quality of savory empanadas we received. For the record, the multiple times that we've had people order for the office we've had the sweet ones & They've been excellent! Which is why I convinced my husband to get 2 dozen savory and 2 dozen sweet ones for the upcoming family gathering... because I was sure that if the dessert ones are good the savory ones should be too....... HOWEVER, in his usual fashion, my husband decided he wants to try them first before fully committing to such a large order for the upcoming Easter weekend---In hindsight, I'm glad he did cus I wouldn't have heard the end of it :D For starters, the service was indeed courteous. The ambiance of the restaurant or the lack there of, was off putting. The dining area was dark, no outside light, just very dim & no customers, looked like they were prepared to close- although, it was between 5p- 5:30p. Not sure what time they close. We did see one person walk in for a pick up order while there. One of the tables had light fixtures on top- idk, maybe they're remodeling ? I know their parking lot is getting redone... so maybe? As I was standing waiting for our small order, I can glimpse in the kitchen and it looked messy/disorganized, I could also catch a glimpse through a mirror they have in the dining area...... I noticed the young lady (who I believed pack our order) throw the empty box onto the counter before placing our "fresh" empanadas inside. Also, I think I saw her wearing only 1 glove..... anyway, When our order was ready the other girl very nicely showed us the box and showed us the sauces that go with each empanada and they looked and smelled amazing. I did mention above, that the restaurant was dim. We live 0.2 miles from this place.... We drove there and straight home. We got spinach, black bean, birria & spicy asada. We open the box under our bright natural lighted kitchen and the empanadas were not GOLDEN looking, more dark. As if the oil was old, maybe overcooked? or they were RE FRIED. Definitely not fresh and golden. The spinach-had a taste of mint not sure what's inside but description was spinach and cheese. Black bean was the only one that was ok. Birria shredded beef one was really dry even after dipping it in the "consomé" which had a strong flavor of something that we couldn't describe but def not the consomé we are used to. The spicy asada was not spicy in itself, the beef was tough & dry even with the red "salsa" or the chimichurri. we got pieces of beef cartilage or some chewy rubbery fat stuffed inside. Needless to say- I lost this battle. My husband was relieved he didn't just go with my recommendation before trying for himself. I urged him that it must just be a one off; he's not convinced. I think if I ever go back it'll be for dessert empanadas- AND I guess, ALONE. [LOL] 3 stars for service and their sweet options.

Chris C.

First off the parking is absolutely terrible. It would be easier just to park across the street and walk. It's a small restaurant, very limited seating, Quite cozy though. Staff is very friendly, I called in my order because the empanadas are made fresh. I got two beef empanadas for the ride. Nice and crispy, I wish I tried the sauce but because it was stop and go traffic I didn't want to spll it in my car. I need to come back to try it again with the sauce and maybe some sandwiches

Raymond G.

Met up with a long time friend and we had a great time and good foods here! The place was easy to find and just parked on the street. We ordered a TriTip Sandwich and 4 different Empanadas to share. The Empanadas were chicken, beef, spinach & cheese, and birria. The TriTip was cooked perfectly and all the Empanadas were so tasty! My favorite Empanada so far was the birria with the consommé. We had great conversation and were not rushed. Service was good! Very clean place. Can't wait to go back!!!

Dessert empanadas menu. Highly recommend saving eo for them!

Who said you can't review a closed restaurant? I checked Yelp's policy, and there's no restriction…read moreon reviewing a closed one. But why am I writing about food from a restaurant that has already closed? Let's begin the story. It was January 2023 when I walked into the restaurant. A Messi poster in WPAP (Wedha's Pop Art Portrait) style was hanging on the wall, and a FIFA World Cup Trophy sat on the counter. It was less than a month after Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with Messi as the team leader. They were also selling thermos flasks and phone cases painted with the Argentina football team. I had known this was an Argentine restaurant for a long time, dating back to 2016. I used to live in Glendora Village, just a ten-minute walk to the restaurant by crossing the railway. I didn't know the word "empanadas" before I came to Rika's, even though I had eaten similar food before. In China, there is Uyghur/Muslim food called "baked dumplings," stuffed with seasoned minced lamb, which are almost the same as empanadas. Compared with deep-fried empanadas, Rika's baked version was less oily, with more wheat flour aroma. Their empanada wrap also had a hint of sweetness, which made it very special. The first time I walked past the restaurant, on a random afternoon in 2016, I ordered four different empanadas to take away. At that time, they were $2.35 each. The restaurant was so kind that they wrote the flavor names on the food box. I still remember the experience-those empanadas were hot, aromatic, cheesy, and well-balanced. I was too full to have dinner that night. Later, I brought my family and friends to dine there. Not only were the empanadas delicious, but the deep-dish pizza, salads, and other dishes were also excellent. Let's talk about the empanadas. They had 16 different fillings, from simple ones like beef, sweet beef, spicy beef, ham & cheese, blue cheese, and onion & cheese, to more unique ones. What was interesting was that each filling had its own shape. Regular beef was half-round, sweet beef had both corners folded up, spicy beef had only the left corner folded up, and so on. FATAY (Arabian empanadas) were triangular, while bacon & prunes were square. I tried almost all the different fillings, and they were all good--never disappointing. Even after I moved to Pasadena, I still went back there. Then COVID-19 came. The restaurant closed for a short while, then reopened for takeout only, no dine-in. By June 2022, the price had risen to $2.85 each. By January 2023, it was $3.10 each. By June 2025, they closed permanently. I miss Rika's empanadas. I hope the chef is still baking them somewhere else. If so, please let me know.

We decided to try Alladin Jr Restaurant and Cafe before heading to the movies and we are so glad…read morethat we did. We both got the chicken shawarma with rice and pita and a side order of falafel and it all tasted excellent and fresh. The owner Kal was generous to throw in some extra sauces even though we didn't add them originally which was very kind. The amount of food was plentiful, I came in hungry and we still had leftovers to take home. But the best part of eating here was the hospitality that Kal showed us. He let us try the beef empanadas and the salsa which was his own recipe and it was absolutely delicious. This will forever be our spot to visit when we come to the movies. If you get a chance to dine in I highly recommend it as Kal and his wife will make you feel at home in a way no other restaurant does nowadays.

The mixed plate came with chicken, kefta, and beef. Everything was absolutely perfect. Some places serve dry chicken, but not at Aladdin's. It was so juicy and flavorful. The empanadas were light, crispy, and not greasy at all. But what made the dinner even more special was the way Cal greeted and got to know each customer. He is so genuine and kind. In the short time we were there, he has made new friends in us and we will be back soon.

Food was delicious as usual, quick seating (with reservations) servers were very attentive and fun…read more Reservations were for 7 pm on a Saturday, not too crowded for a weekend. I ordered an appetizer calamari for dinner the filet mignon med/rare- asparagus and brussel sprouts and a lemon drop for my drink. I felt my steak was over cooked but nonetheless it was delicious. Needless to say I was hungry so nothing else made it to take pictures. This is why I couldn't finish my steak. Overall wonderful experience as usual-

I would give 5 stars to the servers, waiters, and most of the workers were great. Hugo and Manny…read morewere great. They were friendly, kept checking in on us, and gave great recommendations. The one star is due to the attitude of a manager. We ordered the lobster mac n' cheese and unfortunately my husband bit into a sharp piece of lobster shell. We informed our server, who was very apologetic, and said he would send a manager over. The manager came over, and asked what happened, we informed him about the lobster shell in the mac n' cheese. The manager looked and my husband and coldly asked, "Well are you ok?" My husband said yes and then the manager walked away without an apology. He didn't offer to take the mac n' cheese off our bill. As we were leaving the manager James open the door for us asked how our experience was for dinner. We told him everything was great until the rude manager didn't offer an apology or comp the side dish. James apologized for the manager's rudeness and said he should have taken the mac n' cheese off our bill. I hoped James would have called and comped the side after the fact but he didn't. I'm glad he apologized for his rudeness of his manager and I hoped for a sensible resolution, but so far there's been nothing. I even responded to survey they emailed me after the dining experience and I still have not received a correspondence. I feel that the manager didn't take us seriously because we didn't have the usual look for the typical diners at this establishment. There's review from a month ago mentioning how they weren't putting people of color in the main dining room.
