My family has been going to Watch Lake Lodge for about 5 years now. We go the same week every year…read more We first heard about it from our from our neighbours who have been going for over 15 years. Now there are 5 families from the neighbourhood who all go up together. The cabins are rustic, ranging from 1 room log cabins, to cabins with 1 or 2 bedrooms. Many of the cabins are log cabins that were built by the original owners around 80 years ago. Today they have added wood burning cook stoveds, electric lights and a fridge. Those are your modern amenities! Water comes from the well, or the hose at the main lodge building (no one actually stays there though), and the toilet is an outhouse. This is pretty rustic. The people are fantastic though. The Lodge has been in the Horn famly for over 60 years is now run by Dimps Horn. The big actiiveiy for us is horseback riding with the twice daily trail rides. These are a great value and the wranglers are excellent with riders of all ages and abilities. Down at the lake we enjoy swimming in the lake. It is pretty warm, even early in the summer when we are there. I understand there are fish in the lake, but I am not a fisherman. You can rent a boat from the Lodge. We highly recommend visiting Watch Lake whether it is stay in the cabins, or just to go for ride when you are in the southern Cariboo area around 70 Mile House, Green Lake or Watch Lake.

I was impressed with how she assessed all of our experience levels and did not take us beyond a trot, always careful to ensure cinches were done up right, stirrup levels comfortable. Horses in surprisingly good condition. What a treat. Thank you all.

Better use the washroom somewhere else without having the thought of flies coming out of a hole . Otherwise I recommend this area with its amazing trail and river view.

That being said, I just loved this campsite. The site we got was glorious, leaning out over the incredible river, spacious with sun and shade, lots of trees between us and the next campers and a short walk to the toilets. They were pit toilets, and the water from the big spigot outside the toilets was not potable, but for us this is not make or break. At least the toilet areas were quite clean. We went on a nice hike along the river and were able to find sheltered spots to take a dip, and to see the spot where two very different rivers meet, giving the waters a bright stripe of glacier green against the deep, fast brown waters of the North Thompson. Not too buggy at all, and for me just enough trains to be a little romantic, not enough to be crazy-making. Would camp again. ;)
