We made one of the entrees into a meal so it came with a bowl of rice and corn + tomatoes and eggs on the side. The portion sizes are quite generous and the dishes were flavorful and saucy. I was skeptical if all the flavor would sink into the chicken since the pieces are a bit large but rest assured the inside of the chicken was not dry and flavorless. Although I still think smaller pieces of chicken with fewer bones would be more convenient for eating. This place is good, the wait wasn't very long, servers were attentive. I've gotten recommendations from friends to try this place out for authentic Taiwanese food and it didn't disappoint! The pop corn chicken was well seasoned, however the bok choy that came with it was blanched with no seasoning whatsoever. Rice was also seasoned and sprinkled with some meat sauce, so that balanced it out! Second time, and I tried their milk tea (Ceylong Milk Tea) along with three new dishes. The deep fried chicken steak over rice, Haaka style stir fried tofu pork belly dry squid with spicy sauce, and sweet and sour spare ribs. Ceylon milk tea: would highly recommend this. It's got a good blend of tea and milk and has a roastier flavor compared to Hokkaido milk tea. I believe, this is similar to Hong Kong style milk tea which tends to have a darker and roasty taste to it. Deep fried chicken steak: My dad only gets this dish and I can see why. It's pretty good! The chicken is tender and moist while the outside is pretty crunchy but not hard. The portion is big for the price that you pay too. Sweet and sour spare ribs: I really liked this dish as well. They made it really nicely and although I can't say that there's anything too special about it, I will say that I really liked the blend between the sweet and sour. Stir fried tofu pork belly: First of all, this wasn't spicy. Which is fine because usually I don't do spicy. BUT SECONDLY, I swear there was barely any pork belly in it. Maybe like 5 small pieces? A little disappointed in this dish since my dad and I were expecting there to be a bit more pork belly. It was pretty much a veggie dish at this point. And where was the dry squid? I saw dried shrimp though but I don't think those are the same seafoods. Overall, a bit disappointed and let down because of the misleading name (unless I completely read the menu wrong but I don't think we did...), but the taste wasn't bad though. SO happy to stumble upon this gem during these times, especially since I wasn't able to visit home to get my mama's cooking for the holidays. This is probably one of the best Taiwanese restaurants in the area and always satisfies my cravings when I'm feeling homesick and am too lazy to try and whip up some traditional Taiwanese dishes. They have a huge variety of menu items, including lots of tea options - truly a one stop shop. I have loved everything I've tried here so far, and here are a few must haves we have in rotation for dinners: - Crispy chicken with special spicy sauce - Braised pork rice - Three spice chicken - Popcorn chicken - Beef noodle soup The entire staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful, and safety measures are in place for the pandemic with everyone wearing masks. I recommend calling in your order (typically 10-15 minutes before pick up), but you can order in person as well. The teas they have here are delicious, which always seems hard to find at restaurants. I thought the cookie milk tea looked good. It was essentially milk tea with a sprinkling of crushed cookies on top made to look like a plant. The lamb with vegetables was my favorite dish. The vegetables were unique and the lamb wasn't too salty. However, the price was a bit high at $13. The pork belly burger had good flavor but the pork was tough and hard to bite through. The bun was fluffy and perfect. The spicy hot pot has a good variety of vegetables and meat in it. However, the spicy part wasn't well distributed and resulted in most of the dish not being spicy and then you'd accidentally eat a super spicy bite. Overall, I'd come back. We've been here several times now, and have had great experiences each time! Not only is this place inexpensive, but there is just enough variety for the pickiest eaters. We typically get their popcorn chicken (鹽酥雞), beef noodle soup (紅燒牛肉麵), some stir-fry vegetables, and their ground pork with vermicelli stir-fry (螞蟻上樹). Flavors are solid and portions are substantial enough for leftovers. I like that every dish that flies out of the kitchen is piping hot and the quality of ingredients is high; doesn't feel like you're eating week-old food. We've gotten the water leaf spinach (空心菜) and pea shoots (豆苗), and like the pea shoots better overall. The water leaf spinach is still a solid choice if you're in the mood for something less crisp and with a bite. Service is great and fast. If you come during normal dinner hours, there is a wait, especially if you're a party of 4. They move the line fairly quickly, so you typically don't have to wait more than 30 minutes. Word of caution: They close the kitchen at around 9pm, so make sure you arrive beforehand if you intend to eat. You can still order drinks until closing. Plenty of parking and easy to access. The storefront is a little hidden off of Northup Way, so keep an eye out for it because the signage isn't very big. We'll continue to return to this establishment, and encourage you to try it out if you're looking for some wholesome authentic Taiwanese eats! read more

I tried their yansuji which was good.. but not the best i've had. Flavor was right on but i would've liked it a little more crunchy. I also had the bamboo shoots & sliced pork. Great spot to get takeout or eat in! We've been here multiple times and we really like that the portions are large for the price and it's delicious as well. My favorite dishes are the popcorn chicken, the pork burgers, pickled cucumber and the sizzling hot plates! I've also tried their mini hotpot which is pretty good but it wasn't enough meat and the soup wasn't as flavorful. I tried the kimchi hotpot and replaced the lamb with the beef. But then I guess that's what I get for ordering kimchi at a non-Korean place hahaha. Next time I'll try a different one - maybe the spicy Taiwanese hotpot. Excited we found this! My partner is Taiwanese so we had high expectations for this food. The bamboo and green veg was amazing! Seasoned perfect and cooked like home. Came here on a Sunday night at 5:30pm. The restaurant was almost packed! As a group of 3, our wait was no longer than 5 minutes. Their staff was friendly and helpful, and the service was quick! We ordered popcorn chicken, braised pork over rice, egg tofu with veggies, and fried string beans. We had to order an extra bowl of rice to go with our egg tofu dish as it had a yummy sauce that needed some carb companionship. Flavor of the dishes were yummy and the portions were reasonable! The dishes were all good (especially the wings) - but they were pricey for the portions you got. I'm so glad that Looking For Chai found a home on the Eastside as they offer delicious Taiwanese cuisine at reasonable prices. Three of us arrived on a Sunday around 5:30 for dinner and were immediately seated at one of just three vacant tables. About 10 minutes later, a line began to form and by 6:30, the wait was out the door. We ordered four dishes which was just enough: - Three Spice Chicken: Although I loved its flavor profile, this was NOT a great value. Mixed with onions, peppers and basil, the light coating of sauce on the chicken was both savory and slightly sweet. Unfortunately, only a few pieces of chicken contained a reasonable amount of meat; a few were mainly bone. - Taiwanese Stir Fried Noodles: This was my favorite dish of the night and I'd come back specifically to order this for take-out. The noodles were perfectly cooked in a hot wok, combined with diced pork, dried shrimp, cabbage and black mushrooms. Yum!! - Dry Cooked Green Beans and Pork: Could have used a little more flavor, but the beans tasted fresh and were nicely salted. Green beans are my go-to vegetable pick at Chinese restaurants and these place about average in my opinion. - Spiced Pork over Rice: I enjoyed this dish and it tasted pretty similar to Facing East's. It had a rich, meaty flavor and a substantial amount of pork to coat the rice. Considering the crowd of customers waiting to be seated, it was apparent that although the staff did their best to attend to all diners, they were extremely stressed under the pressure. However, I will note that there were only two waiters responsible for taking orders, seating and clearing tables - I'd suggest they need one more waiter to assist. Although they were friendly and checked on us (in a very hurried manner), I couldn't help but feel rushed as they constantly sped by. During my visit, I was under the impression that once you finish eating, you're expected to leave immediately... not an environment to enjoy a relaxing meal catching up with friends or family. After dinner, I ordered a Passionfruit green tea with boba at the to-go counter. I noticed there were a couple employees in the back who are dedicated to only preparing teas. This tea was delicious and a nice way to finish off my meal. Nice chewy boba with 25% sweetness, and light ice - perfect! This is one of my favorite Taiwanese restaurant on the east side on Seattle. Having been to Taiwan recently in past 2 years, every time I crave Taiwanese style food I come here. This was my third visit to this place and as always I was not disappointed! The food choices here and great with dishes full of flavor and something for everyone. This place does get very busy so plan to wait at least 20 min if you come during rush hour. Luckily we came here on a weekday for dinner and only had to wait for 10 min. But the food is definitely worth the wait. I ordered the Popcorn chicken, chicken fried steak over rice and minced pork with noodle. The portion sizes are not huge but adequate enough to fill you up. Their minced pork is very delicious and flavorful and even though I have had it with rice, I would highly recommend getting it with noodle! It was definitely much better that way by having the noodle soak the flavor of the pork than you typical plain rice. I always get the popcorn chicken as well which is crispy on the outside and juice inside specially with the added fried basil on top that takes it up a notch. The chicken fried steak is a very popular dish as well and I really enjoyed it with the tea egg and corn side dishes to help with the fried chicken. This place does not offer any traditional deserts but do have a whole laundry list of boba teas you can get. I have tried the honey tea and hakaido milk tea both of which were very good. I highly recommend this place and would suggest coming during a weekday to avoid the rush if you can. OK HERES THE TEA. I ALWAYS order from this place on uber eats whenever I need some fast dinner that I know is going to satisfy mine and my little brother's cravings.
