Lovely place for every garlic junkie. Even the ice and liquer is made by garlic. Nice atmosphere.

    Ayla - Steak with chimichuri

    Ayla

I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was at Ayla. I…read morehave dropped in to Ayla many times to sit outside for a drink and to people watch. Then on my 4th or 5th visit I decided to try a few snack items, Iberico Ham and Tuna Tataki, both were excellent. So I tried some steak for dinner on my last visit and it was really good. It was accompanied by chimichuri and roasted vegetables, all very tasty and well prepared. There is also a great waiter who always remembers me, a young guy with light colored hair, his service is excellent, he even remembers my drink when I haven't been there for a couple of months. Whether it's just for a drink and a snack, or a full meal - Ayla is recommended.

I'm diagnosed with ADHD so I tend to move around a lot and it was a dimly lit room and I've never been accused like that before so I was completely at a loss. This was in front of employees and other patrons that could easily hear the conversation. This all went down within a minute of me walking in and her actions were completely unfounded as well as humiliating and highly unprofessional and made me really uncomfortable and insulted. Completely ruined any chance of feeling relaxed in there. Later on she said she understands how insulting it is but dismissed it by stating that she has done this quite a bit in the past and despite being wrong about half the time intends to continue doing so "to protect her restaurant.". I worked in restaurants for years and have dealt with many intoxicated customers before and I understand that Rotterdam has some weird characters but I was literally sitting at the bar minding my own business just like last time I was there. Certainly nobody else was bothered by me. I would never, and have never seen a customer so unjustly accused based on circumstantial evidence like that and that's despite working in places with a much greater number of actually drugged people than Rotterdam center. This wasn't a normal or acceptable thing to happen at all. Besides that this just isn't a good place to go. I had been here before and each time it's been mediocre service. I shouldn't need to get the attention of a bartender standing 3 feet from me when I have no drinks and a closed menu in an empty bar. Pretty subpar beer menu as well and the whole place looks and feels tacky. You can walk like 5 minutes or less and find a lot of places that would give you a better experience in terms of service, options, and not potentially dealing with a crazy manager. I strongly advise others to think twice before supporting a business that devalues and mistreats its customers so brazenly.

A hidden gem of a restaurant in the heart of Rotterdam. With so many food options nearby, it took…read moreme a bit of time to check this place out and I am so happy that I did. Authentic greek food, as you can see in a small menu that is dutch only (don't even have an english menu but that proves how authentic and local it is!). For the pitas, choose your meat, the standard lettuce tomato and onion and then the sauce of your choice. The gyro meat was fantastic! For 6 euros, if was a delicious sandwich that I will be back for. After ordering I realized there was a 9.5 euro option which was huge! Definitely way more value with the big gyro and it will for sure fill you up. Beyond the wraps there are a few other items to pick from, but gyros seemed to be the bulk of the orders. You can also buy greek market items that they sell since it's half a store and half a restaurant. With only about 10-15 tables, this place fills up fast! People were eating outside in the cold because of how popular it was during the week at 5pm. Variety of cafe items as well such as lattes that you can enjoy with your meal. Does seem to be a popular place with the locals because I saw tons of delivery drivers come in and out throughout my short time there. Worth a visit for amazing greek food at a decent price.
