If you live in the neighborhood this is a pretty spot for a picnic, photography, dog walking, or birdwatching. I love any spot of nature and the trees and water make this a picturesque place to relax and enjoy the outdoors however amenities are limited here and there are better parks with playgrounds to take the kids to play nearby.

There are basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis and pickleball courts, playgrounds, and walking trails, making it a great space for all ages and interests. It's peaceful, spacious, and perfect whether you're there to exercise, relax, or spend time outdoors. One of the most meaningful parts for me was learning about the park's history through the plaques and memorials. Taking the time to read them added real depth to the experience and made each visit feel even more impactful. This park is a true gem in the community and one I always recommend.

One of the most beloved features of this park is the Community Playground. The castle themed playground was built by volunteers in 1987. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park is sometimes known by the nickname, Castle Park. Generations of children have grown up enjoying this playground. Other features of the park include a tranquil lake with a community built Unity Bridge over it. A half mile exercise trail runs around the perimeter of the lake. There are also two basketball courts, a baseball/softball stadium, two football/soccer fields, a multipurpose field, one lake, a recreation center, a civic center, restroom, rentable pavilion, picnic tables, and park benches. This park is the home of the Rollins College Women's Softball Team who uses the state-of-the-art softball facility in the southwest corner of the park. I found this park is the ideal destination for the Winter Park community to gather for family picnics, outdoor play, fishing from the shoreline, sports outings, or just enjoying a stroll around the pretty lake. It seems the neighborhood enjoys this park, people were walking the paved path, a gentleman was on the dock, I even saw an industrious older man with a pail and a metal detector, looking for his pot of gold or some other form of riches. As stated, this is not a place I would recommend to "get back to nature," however for a neighborhood park, it admirably serves its purpose.

On this visit, I will say that the park was relatively clean and appeared well maintained. The dog park was temporarily closed on this visit due to health concerns with the COVID-19 virus. The dog park appeared like it would be nice, with two areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. The only drawback was that it only had a porta-potty on the property. I am confident that this park serves this community well and again, I was impressed with how the design well used the space that it was given. If you are in the area, I would recommend a visit.
